This was introduced in last year in some shops ...... I take a shopping trolley and always lift it up and show them inside it before I go through the checkout. We had to do it in Spain when we lived there as most people us their own trolley there. I have seen people leave things like nappies and toilet rolls under the bottom of the trolley and walk through but they do check for that in my branch now.
https://themanc.com/shopping/aldi-bag-search-policy/ .......
SHOPPERS are up in arms after Aldi introduced a new self-checkout rule meaning anyone can be searched at the till. The discount supermarket has confirmed that bag checks are being carried out but stressed they are only ever carried out with customers' permission.

When I shop in M & S I use the gun type thing then just pay at the self serve and quite a few times the assistant has come up and checked 5 of the items in my bag to make sure they are paid for. I was surprised the first time but now just leave them to it.
I had I think 10 items checked at sainsburys as it was my first time using the scan and go. Not sure of they check every time as it’s the only time I’ve used it.

Can't remember which my husband had but he said they were odd and the cross came off in one piece when he bit it. All the HC Buns today were still in date but so hard I left them. The only ones that were soft were the cheap ones but couldn't see much fruit in them.
Still no coriander rice so I bought some frozen chopped coriander and some lime juice and I will make my own. :ROFLMAO:
Tesco hot cross buns are amazing or at least the cheese ones anyway. Ate mine one day out of date and it was still soft and fresh. The rest I froze and they are still nice after being frozen. I have mine toasted so may make a slight difference but not much.

Be aware that the Aldi specially selected Swiss mini eggs are 3 times the price of the M&S Easter Swiss mini eggs
£3.49 for 128g in Aldi £5.50 for 400g in M&S

I have had mine checked in Marks about 4 times since they started self scan and I am in there a couple of times a week when I buy more than 5 items.

After reading here I took a wander to my local Lidl in the hope of a Bakewell blonde only to find the ticket and an empty shelf 😭
They were all gone in my local yesterday, and no shelf edge ticket any more either. 😭

I never pay for my bags in Marks (or Sainsbo…Aldi have decent bags so I pay there), even when an employee is standing over me. Not been pulled up for it so far though it’s hardly crime of the century 🤣

I had murder in Asda a few years back when I didn’t pay for a bag, the way the shop assistant acted you’d have thought I’d robbed the till !!

A lot of places up the north east (well the ones in my area which I go to- lidl, aldi and Asda) have a person walking about holding the bags and won’t actually hand them over they make sure they swipe them on your machine first 😅 no pinching carriers around here

Same here. They scan the bags for you before they hand them over

Same here in Aldi. My Lidl doesn't even have self service check outs 😅 in Asda you can still grab your own bags I think

Asda here have been doing that for ages, never find any nearly new ones on the car park anymore, there used to be loads, Aldi self serve do the same. Thank goodness I have my old lady shopping trolley so I don't forget to take bags as I don't drive. Primark has to be the worst, have seen people buy the paper ones and when it is raining the bottom has dropped out of them before they get over the car park.
Edit - just seen the new Aldi next big thing is starting again next week - I loved that programme, C4

Aldi's Salted Pretzel Choceur Chocolate bars are amazing. Not great news for my diet though!
I had to ban myself from buying those, they are just too moorish!! Tesco do a similar bar now too, Personally, I haven’t tasted it but my sister said it was good although it is thinner , it’s not as chunky as the Aldi bar.

I assume it's UK wide but Lidl are doing 2kg bags of potatoes for 15p.

Not as exciting as treats, I know...

Growing up in Australia it was always the norm to ask to look in your bags. I was a supervisor at a big supermarket & we had code words like LISA & BOB. Look inside always & bottom of basket. When I moved her in the early 2000's I always used to show inside my bag out of habit. I always got weird looks!
