Speaking as a teacher, it’s insane that your *5 year old* is being made to plan or do ‘first drafts’ whilst home schooling (or arguably at all). When I taught Y2, my kids ‘planned’ by drawing pictures and labelling key words then used those pictures and key words to write the full sentences. I’m not even having my Y5 class draft their work. Plan it, yes, but mostly together via my live taught lesson on Zoom! First draft then redrafting? Hell no. I’m not surprised you’re unhappyQuoting myself but I’ve also just had my 5yo in tears because of this too. Not wanting to have to write out the exact same sentences that she wrote out yesterday for ‘planning’ into a ‘first draft’. It’s not like I can explain why they need to do it because i don’t have a clue either to be honest. Don’t even get me started on ‘text maps’ - the duck is all that about. I give up.
Literacy at primary level is ridiculous. Or maybe I’m thick but either way I can’t wait to have a break from this next week.
There's a person on my facebook who has posted pictures of her all dolled up for her chap (literally in finery), referencing that she hasn't dressed up for ages so now is her chance. Two things are really annoying me right now:
1. People who seem incapable of using the names they gave their kids. I’ve got social media friends who are all “bugs” “little legs” “mini me” “moo moo” “roo”Like I get we all have pet names and nicknames for people around us but just once use the actual name you gave them. It’s so annoying!
2. I’ve already seen breakfast tables set up with hearts and flowers, sweet boxes and cupcakes for Valentine’sIf you want to do those things for someone you love; you crack on. Share the love, enjoy something to break up lockdown, make the most. But if you’re putting it all over Insta or FB then you’re doing it for the wrong reasons, it’s not about attention and likes. It’s supposed to be about love! Oh and romantic, in-love love while I’m ranting, not your kids

I had to go to a shopping centre and their toilets were locked due to the pandemic and I had to piss in an alleyway cause I couldn’t hold it in lolWhen most of the public toilets are shut , due to the pandemic, except for one cubicle, which is filthy and stinks![]()
Oh my gosh you did nothing wrong! I’m sure that dog owner will definitely put the dog on a lead next time. It sounds like you acted quickly and calmly so as not to upset your little oneNeed to rant but need some reassurance I’m not the worlds worst mum please.
My baby has just gone one and learnt to walk. He is my first. We went for a walk round a country park near us today and he was on his reins and toddling away. He loves dogs and always stands and laughs and points at them. If they come up to him then he loves it and he will stroke them and he adores them. Obviously we’ve never had a bad experience.
Today a pit bull Wasnt on a lead and came hurtling towards him and pushed him to the ground. He couldn’t get himself back up because the dog was in the way. I was so panicked. I tried lifting him and the dog kept pushing him back down. All that was racing through my mind was the dog was going to kill my baby. I picked him by the fabric of his puddle suit and got him away and the dog owner put the dog on a lead. I could tell he felt bad. I didn’t walk away because I didn’t want to instill fear into my son. I wanted him to think the dog just knocked him down so we didn’t really cause a fuss but my baby was hysterical.
I just wish I said to the guy now how the dog should have been on a lead and I’m so so paranoid he might do this to another toddler and it could be worse.
I can’t stop thinking about the situation and I feel really bad. My husband said the dog was playing but I don’t see it like that at all. We are both dog lovers and we love our son being around dogs but this has shaken me so much and I can’t help thinking “what if” and how I should have said something different to the owner. I feel such a bad mum and like I’ve failed at looking after my baby.
Oh no that's awful. My baby has just learnt how to walk and is one in two weeks. I'd be horrified if that happened to himNeed to rant but need some reassurance I’m not the worlds worst mum please.

you are definitely not a bad mum or a failure, actually you are so so nice because you considered everyone's feelings in a very difficult situation!! i really think you didn't do anything wrong and i'm happy your little boy is well <3Need to rant but need some reassurance I’m not the worlds worst mum please.

This isn't your fault though? Like, absolutely nothing was? The owner should have had his dog on a leash. It's his responsibility to handle his pet and dogs around small children should always be handled carefully, no matter how friendly they are. I'm glad nothing bad happened, it was an unfortunate accident and not really under your control. Try not to let this because a trauma for you, you've managed the situation just fine.Need to rant but need some reassurance I’m not the worlds worst mum please.

A very similar thing happened to one of my kids when they were around that age. We were in a park and this dog just comes bounding up to us and knocked my kid over. I was terrified! Scooped her up as fast as I could, unharmed but shocked. It happens, it’s not your fault. The main thing is your baby is ok. Sadly so many dog owners don’t bother to train their dogs properly which puts other people at risk.Need to rant but need some reassurance I’m not the worlds worst mum please.

Aw don’t even start me on this nonsense. Same folk who 12 weeks ago were making candles at homeWhat is it with everyone all of a sudden becoming a body shop at home consultant?! 5 people who I’ve either worked with or known from school have followed me on Instagram and the same worded script! Blaaaaahhhh
They evidently know very little of the history of your nation!when I went to visit their home (pre Covid), they were shocked to see that I was actually white, rather than presuming that because I was born in SA that I would be black or a person of colour!
you know i actually remember you mentioning in a post that you don't get on very well with her mom. and also when you said that they called you an ''infected south african'' i thought, obviously they are judgemental people, they also might have a problem with it being a same sex relationship. i'm honestly really sorry that you have to deal with these people, but if you think the relationship is worth saving, it might be good to try and sit down, all together, and have an open and honest conversation about all this. this covid ''reason'' is ridiculous and just an excuse. the least they owe you, or at least kate does, is honesty!Interfering parents!
The parents of my ex g/f convinced her that she should no longer associate with me because a) I am South African, b) I recently tested positive for Covid, c) I recently returned to England from South Africa, d) there's a new strain of the Covid virus in the UK that originated from South Africa.
Put all these points together was enough to influence their daughter that I was no longer worthy to be with her (even though we were recently engaged and very much in love)
She is 24 (25 in March), compared to my 28. But rather than having a typical rebellious/independent streak from her parents during her teen years, she wsa very much under their influence. And so it remains today.
I don't think her parents really liked me from the very off anyway. They were still in shock when their daughter finally came out and told them she was a les a few years ago. And they still hold a grudge, even though they won't openly admit it. But I think they have it in for me because I am South African, and what surprised me was when I went to visit their home (pre Covid), they were shocked to see that I was actually white, rather than presuming that because I was born in SA that I would be black or a person of colour!
But even getting over that fact they still held a grudge, and now they've found the perfect excuse to influence and interfere with their daughter's happiness by suggesting I am a risk to her health (even though this very same daughter tested positive for Covid back in November!)
Their daughter is quite dependent on her parents even though she lives alone. They often pay some of her bills during the current lockdowns, and as such it would seem she is in their debt. And as such more or less falls into line with their demands.
Ordinarily I would admit defeat to a failed relationship. But not on this occasion! I am determined to get her back, but without causing a major falling out with her interfering parents. Not sure what my plan of action is in order to achieve this, but I know that she isn't happy with the outcome, and that is what drives me forward with my hopes!
I honestly find it absolutely bonkers that the excuse they went for was that you were "infected", when their own daughter had Covid first in November?? Wth. 24 isn't exactly 18 but like you said, being under the influence of parents can have an affect on how "adult" a person can be I guess. I think this whole situation should be addressed properly by both of you, I'd be so happy for you if you guys can get back together but if The Parents will be an ongoing trouble and influence for your gf, your nerves and sanity deserves better. What an ignorant and ridiculous comment on their part, I still can't believe their prejudice... Sorry you're dealing with this on top of everything else. Hope you're recovering well!Interfering parents!
