2021 Weddings

Just came across this thread and wanted to pop my head in to say I’m thinking of you all - it must be so hard planning a wedding at the moment. I got married a few years ago and the stress was unreal. I’ve got 2 weddings to go to this year, one was supposed to have been last year but got rearranged. I wouldn’t dream of pulling out because of COVID, I know how much planning goes into a wedding and how much someone pulling out can have an impact (seating charts, chair numbers, minimum number requirements etc) and it’s really giving me something fun and social to look forward to. Wishing you all the best of luck x

If we are not included in the 22nd February roadmap I may actually sob.
I think you’ve got to be included🤞🏼 The wedding industry has being ignored for long enough and people are properly fighting for it now. We are doing so well with vaccines that they’ve got to start thinking about big events like weddings now 😁

Thank you that’s really kind and reassuring of you to say 😘 I hope the weddings you are looking forward to going to get to go ahead as well 😊

Oh yeah imagine telling people they couldn’t go 🙈 so awkward but I think most people would understand. I have got a good feeling about June though and that we might be able to have a good amount of guests! Hopefully when Boris sets this road map out and gives us an idea of guests then we might send our invites out. I really can’t see any of my guests saying we don’t feel safe to come. I’m really interested to see what happens with this #whataboutweddings and meeting at Downing Street to discuss next week. I really need to get on with losing weight now 😂
i cut 92 guests from my wedding and there was only 1 who whined about it (his sister) , didnt give 2 hoots about her but every1 was fab and will understand if they need to be cut

I’m due to get married in July, moved from last year :( I’m honestly relieved that there will be restrictions though due to my MIL from hell! She was way too involved and when we tried to address this she wouldn’t listen and would shout at us. Not to mention her guest list and inviting people I don’t even know. This way, if we can go ahead safely, it’ll be very strict and she has no say in the guests!

Haha good luck , my MIL i thought had behaved herself until i found out the next day had sent wedding day photos to her daughter who then passed them around the family , caused hell on because were asked not to send any photos for 48 hours until we posted ours
took me 2.5 months to get an apology

There's still some that that wouldn't stop! 🙈 I didn't think it would be a big deal but seemingly some people get really offended they can't bring their children, even when the invite doesn't name them, and now I'm stressing.
You have to be clear and firm that it is adult only otherwise folks will push. Your wedding, your rules 👍🙂

If sending you invites "to John and sarah, 2 seats are reserved for you."

Mention it is adult only on all invitations... If it's during covid "due to Covid19 capacity restrictions, our wedding will be adult only."

How optimistic are we for figures for June 2021?? 15 / 30 or 50? Xx

On Saturday me and partner sat down and literally planned all of our wedding in a day. We were originally aiming for 60day/100nights. Got it down to just over 40. I don’t know if I’d been optimistic by that🤣

All over 50s are supposed to be offered the vaccination by the end of April which seems amazing. Surely if the vaccines are the way out of this mess then things like weddings and events are going to have to start happening again.

Would you be ok with cutting numbers down from 50 if you had to?

Edit to add we get married in June too.

The #whataboutweddings people have posted today after their MP meeting that they’re confident weddings will be included in the opening up of restrictions roadmap. I don’t see why they couldn’t start events up once they’ve finished vaccinating the over 50s? 🤞🏻

Ahh we have done the same. We originally had 60+ We have made lists of 15 / 30 / 40 / 50. To be honest I'd be happy with 30 and 40 would be great but just want to know what we're looking at now.

I'm in Ireland, the options during the other phases of restrictions have been 6 (that's what it currently is), 25, 50, 100. We don't seem to be getting much of a road map here, just being told what the current restrictions are for so many weeks! Some people cancelled last year when they could've had 100 and decided to wait. Feel so sorry for them now

Oh wow that would be absolutely gutting to cancel from 100! Fingers crossed we get some answers soon xx

I’m finding the run up to the 22nd so difficult, anyone else?

I feel like nobody I know IRL understands how it feels trying to plan a wedding in the pandemic, and now after reading comments online I’m questioning myself whether I’m wrong to wait for the day I’ve envisioned (which is looking like 2022 due to overseas travel limits) rather than just going to my local registry office instead when we’re allowed 😖 it’s all that - if you really wanted to get married you’d do it under whatever restrictions are in place.

I’m feeling extra crap that none of my family or friends have even asked about our plans or reached out to see if we’re okay.. ☹ But before all this happened I used to say all the time that no one cares about your wedding apart from your other half and your parents at a push, so I feel like a massive hypocrite expecting them to mention it.

Sorry for the pity party, just had to vent. I’m driving myself nuts here.

I hope all you UK brides have some good news on Monday.

Don’t worry about what other people think. You will have put a lot of hours and money into your wedding and if you want to hang on and hope for that big day, you’ve got every right to do that ♥ I know what you’re referring to when you mean about reading comments, it’s just a stranger on the internet so really don’t worry.

There’s a few of us here that are due to get married and we will all want different outcomes but that’s because we are all different, there is no right or wrong answer.

I know what you mean about family/friends not asking too. I used to get stressed about people asking sometimes, I just got to the stage where I really didn’t want to talk about it! People expect you to know the answer with something that’s happening further down the line and none of us have a bloody clue! 😂 I wonder if your family/friends have purposely not asked you in case they think you’re being bombarded with questions?

Anyway, we are all here for you to let off steam to just to have a chat 🥰

This is my opinion on it:

If you want the big wedding, hold out for the big wedding!

But if you are putting your life on hold for the big wedding then you have to weigh up which is more important to you. For example: some people don't want to move into their newly built house until they are married. Some people don't want to have a baby until they are married. You have to prioritise then and decide are you willing to carry on and move to the house / have the baby without being married..

Time is so so short. Don't put your life on hold. I don't mean go off and get married in a registry office but if there are other things you are putting off "until you get married" then you have to consider that.

At the end of the day, you are engaged and planning a future with this person so you have already promised yourselves to each other for the rest of your life.

Hope that helps and sorry you are feeling stressed! 💖

I lost my tit with my future MIL last night as she was going on and on how they won’t have their vaccination before our wedding (June 5th and we are going ahead regardless) they are 64 and would be the next priority group🙄

I absolutely feel for everyone in this nightmare situation. My wedding was supposed to take place in April 2020 but of course we all know what happened... Postponed until April 2021, then August 2021 now not sure what to do...

The entire situation has been a really bitter pill to swallow because I think people make an assumption that a wedding is just a 'big party' and that it can be had any time. But I feel like my life is on hold. We want children, but when? I totally feel for anyone who is mourning the excitement of a forthcoming wedding and doesn't want a COVID-friendly version.

Without wanting to sound too dramatic I feel like I'm grieving for this weird ghost wedding which never happened other than in my mind! We still have all the decorations in the spare room, my dress which I now no longer fit into is still in my wardrobe. But no certainty about when we can put an end to this chapter.

My fiancée reminds me that our relationship won't change after we get married. Sometimes he seems less bothered about it all than me which annoys me in the moment but I know he's right. I recently started wearing my wedding ring just to remind myself that it will all work out one day and it is a good reminder to be grateful.

Love to you all, it will all work out one day!!

I feel you all!

I am at the point where we just want to get married this year now. After postponing once I really couldn’t face going through it all again I know that sounds dramatic but it’s such a rollercoaster! There is nothing to say that next month, winter whatever will be any different (not saying it won’t be!) but we postponed last year to have the wedding we wanted and enjoy the run up but how that’s backfired again! I really couldn’t face the same happening again moving to another date

Really annoys me when people are like oh you want a big wedding then! No I don’t just want the people I love and talk to there and for it to be a celebration. Not after Westminster abbey and live coverage over the bbc

Its such a stressful time anyway, my partner is a key worker so is really stressed with work as it is. Then this not knowing and this wedding cloud over us isn’t helping. We are prepared to compromise on a few things guest numbers etc but want to to feel like a celebration etc!

fingers crossed we all get some answers on the 22nd 🤞💖
