You're right, she has this all or nothing manic attitude to everything.
What makes me uneasy is how she pushes these phases onto her viewers as a sort of 'guru' and then she moves onto something else when she gets bored/is being paid to promote something.
Just some of her long forgotten phases:

Getting up at 6am to go to the gym everyday
Not using shampoo
Claiming acupuncture was the cure to everything
Quitting alcohol
Minimalism
Repairing and reusing/ buying second hand instead of buying new
Cycling
Not consuming unnecessary products
Only working with genuine sustainable brands

Have I forgotten anything else?! šŸ¤£
Hey guys, I just looked through the comments on her new video and someone copied and pasted this post into her comments. I use this forum to have fun and gossip with like minded people about influencers, but personally choose to never post this stuff to her directly. If she wants to read this forum, that's up to her, but I don't want to cross the line of actually directly being mean to her if you know what I mean!
If you wanna post stuff in her comments that's totally cool, but I personally like to keep my options in the gossip forum!

Hope that didn't come across preaching, just didn't like seeing this on her comments, as it was intended for forum guys only šŸ˜¢

Sorry to double post.

I went to watch the new video and only got a minute in.

Since they moved house, pretty much all of her videos start with slow classical/ piano music and slower nature montages. The videos used to be more straight to the point and a lot less lingering nature shots and not all plinky plonky music in the intros.

Does that make sense, or am I projecting!? It feels like it's all a part of this new 'look at me slow living in my mansion' perfect lifestyle persona that she's pushing.
You're totally right

I'm so put off by influencers who try to push this like earth mother, nature loving cottage core image when they're jobs are literally to advertise brands and products that no one really needs. Maddie included. They're all contributing to consumerism en masse

A minute into the new video she says it's 'seemingly part of the tradesmen culture not to turn up'. I used to really like Maddie, but after everything recently this for me is the last straw. Feels like her real entitled nature is really coming through. I'm unsubscribing.

It's genuinely laughable at this point. You can't post about multiple sofa/armchair purchases on your home account and then this on your main? Also, I remember that you could interact directly with her up until some months ago, but now her Stories interaction are off. I wonder if she got tired of people reacting "badly" to her stuff.

The idea of filling bookshelves with books that you've never read but they fit your design aesthetic is just weird to me. She's so intent on curating a vision of her life rather than just living it. Can you imagine how she'd be with kids? "No we can't stick your painting on the fridge darling because it clashes with the sour-milk white and mildewed cabbage colour scheme on the walls"

It annoys me now the way influencers like Maddie talk about travel like we should all be doing it now because we can and are so oblivious to the fact that there is a cost of living crisis and peopleā€™s disposable income is a lot less. Like yeah we havenā€™t been able to travel in a few years but just because now that people physically can itā€™s not that simple as travel and holidays have become even more of a luxury rather than a necessity for people.

Itā€™s all well and good sitting in your Paris hotel room saying how we should get out travelling now we can while your income is a lot higher than your followers and youā€™re in a very privileged position.

Why is everybody looking down on Alex having had a bar job? Not everybody wants a high position job, some people don't have the drive, other people don't have the ambition. Alex, in general, doesn't seem to have many job ambitions, so maybe you guys are right and he felt all too happy quitting his job to work with Maddie.

Talking about this always reminds me of an old friend I had, her aunt had completed her PhD many years and had a Very Serious Job doing all kinds of Important Researches (haven't a clue what). She travelled all over the world for it and was very famous for it, she made tons of money. She was very very unhappy with it. At some point she had enough, quit her job and became a truck driver and she was the happiest she had ever been in her whole life because she finally had the job she always wanted to do.
That's why I hate it when people talk down on people having regular jobs as if it's not good enough or worse than what they currently have.
I'm not a fan of Alex at all, but just... this kind of narrative is not okay in my opinion. If someone likes it or just simply can't hold down/handle a different job isn't it fine?

I used to quite enjoy her cooking videos but lately she just seems to be coming across as incredibly entitled and whiny. Buying loads of items from Etsy does not make you a minimalist - it's still just more stuff. I also think they probably buy a lot of stuff from regular stores but hide it because it doesn't fit in with their whole 'super-sustainable-minimalist' ethos. Gotta keep flogging her book after all.

I'm also really sick of Alex's curmudgeon act. Maybe he thinks he's being funny but he just comes across as sour and resentful in her videos. Also, the whole "I'm soooooo busy and overworked" and "you guys don't understand how stressful the life of a self-employed influencer is" is getting very old. The dog is really sweet though.

That comment is so well articulated and so polite! It's someone giving a genuine opinion in response to something that Maddie brought up and isn't intended to offend or hurt. Those observations are spot on. Clearly the expectation is that unless you're whole heartedly agreeing with her then you can't say anything. Short to the point comment- troll. Long well articulated comment- passive aggressive response. Might as well disable comments if you're only interested in the ones that are praising you.

As a viewer who only watches snippets but used to love her content I don't really know who she is or what her selling point is. When she was first discovering minimalism and veganism she was reflective and lived a modest lifestyle, which made her seem relatable. Her content was based on her values. Now her values are unclear and her content is 'rich posho renovating a big house, spending money on things she doesn't need and uploading 40 minute videos without actually saying anything'. People change, but the changes aren't always healthy and don't always bring happiness.

I didn't realise she's buying more books just to look nice. It's so unnecessary and wasteful. If they're old books like the ones in the living room then someone could actually have enjoyed reading them as well. I love my books and I love how they look, but because they're an expression of me, my reading habits and my personality. Not because they fit an aesthetic.

To be fair unless someone's announcing a pregnancy that's a pretty out of order comment to be leaving.

I mean that person is spot on but what were they expecting? Who likes to be told they are incessantly rambling, infantilising their partner etc.
Hopefully they join us here and leave Maddie alone.

Side note: ā€œsometimes less is more and in this instance itā€™s your talkingā€ is pure gold and I would like to nominate it for the next thread title

Oh that clip annoyed me so much. Iā€™m newly single, I drank wine as I put my new flat pack furniture together recently, and I probably cried afterwards. What hardship has she ever known.

Her story yesterday where she said to go for a walk if you havenā€™t been outside was so fucking patronising. Iā€™d love to go for a walk through the woods to feel better but unfortunately my boss expects me to be at my job. And if I do find time, no I wonā€™t do it without headphones because being alone with my own thoughts is crippling, ya dick.
Also to take the note of ā€˜oh just go outside for a walkā€™ speaks of her privilege of living in a relatively safe area where she can walk in the daytime. Lots of us, especially now itā€™s staying darker later in the mornings and getting darker earlier at night, donā€™t even see daylight hours when we work 8am to 5pm. And particularly being a woman, itā€™s so dangerous to go walking alone in the dark, so when are we supposed to go? In the precious lunch break we are usually working through and eating our lunch at our desks because weā€™re so overworked?

That definitely rubbed me up the wrong way, because any look at the news in the last couple of years would have shown her how privileged she is, when women are being killed just walking home from work or even in bright daylight when theyā€™re walking alone. Completely oblivious.

Showing off your half a million pound house (before the age of 30), your Smeg products and asking about interior designers feels a bit much at the moment.
There's a lot going on for people at the moment, none of it very nice, so maybe she should hold off a little. Show these videos a bit further down the line .

Of course its questionable. Its not an absolute. There is plenty of discussion around this. A total vegan diet and lifestyle in its self is extreme. Having vegan meals a few times a week is a good idea, but totally restricting all animal products isn't a great idea. The fact that there are popular vegan alternative for eggs, bacon, yoghurt etc shows there is a demand for it, and these foods are highly processed and often contain no nutritional value. There is much advice to not give plant based milk to children, as, again, they contain nothing nutritional.
No, it's not debatable. The NHS and BDA(as well as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.and other bodies) literally say a plant-based diet is safe and healthy for all stages of life.

So clickbait-y. And sponsored by Huel but itā€™s not been made clear in the thumbnail image or video title.

What a shallow, miserable existence. No wonder she struggles with her mental health. I imagine she hates her life but itā€™s such easy money she canā€™t stop.

Or maybe Iā€™m giving her too much credit and she has zero conscience and sees no problem in how she lives.
Guys Iā€™ve made a complaint to the ASA makes me feel petty but Iā€™m also so sick for influencers and there stealth ads. Like treat us with respect and declare

Can we cool it a bit with the body shaming? I get she's a bit delulu about where she's at with her own body but there's no need to shame her for how she looks or dresses. Now, the number of clothes, fuck yeah, but if she's comfy in a certain style, there's no need to shame her for it. There's also more than enough criticisms about her atrocious consumerism, delusions in regards to sustainability, and many more without having to resort to dissing her legs, nose, hair or waistline.

Plus I do think she has some sort of eating disorder. Criticise away for spreading that shit on YouTube, but not for her suffering from a mental health issue please.

Well you can see why she's never held down an actual 'real' job in her life...can you imagine how the conversation with her boss at an annual performance review would go? "Well actually, your criticism of my work is just projection and when you talk to me like this it makes me not want to show up for work"

I'm also wondering when the words 'be kind' became an influencer mantra for "never hold me accountable for my actions and words ever" because I'm seeing it an awful lot these days.

I get that people change and move through different seasons in their lives. The issue is that Madeleine continues to promote herself as an environmental/sustainability/minimalism focused influencer, not just to her viewers, but to businesses and companies in return for financial gain. She continues to do this even while telling her viewers that these things are not so important to her these days and that she "doesn't want to label herself". That just seems manifestly dishonest to me.

This video she just released about what she does all day as a full time YouTuber was clearly meant to be a dig at the HaTeRs but it completely failed. As predicted, she barely does anything all day. A few brand shoots, some emails? In no way is this comparable to full time jobs most people are having to work. Girl is downright delusional.
