What a bizarre turn of events. Despite his whole "Mr Nice Guy" persona, Will Smith has always made me feel uneasy, but I could never put my finger on exactly why. They have a strange, cultish family dynamic all round.
No wonder his poor mother sent him to stay with his uncle at Bel-Air šŸ˜‰

Will smith is disgusting. Should have been escorted from the event. Howā€™s The ego on him too, chris rock probably has no idea about Jadas medical issues. The fact that he went into win too, what a joke.

Isn't he known for having a bit of a short fuse? I seem to remember he's had incidents with photographers before.

And someone on a different site pointed out that a good comparison to this is the Zinadine Zidane incident at the World Cup.
Yep. Fond of a good ol' witch slap is our Will.

The amount of people trying to justify Will Smith's behaviour is mind-boggling.

Jada has alopecia, not cancer. The joke was not out of line, it was barely a joke at all.
Chris is a comedian- this is what they do!
Jada says she's a strong woman and nothing can tear her down, apart from one lame joke apparently.
Will was laughing at the joke and only reacted when he noticed Jada wanted a different response.
Will physically assaulted Chris. This was a quip, easily laughed off, not to be escalated. His response was not okay. Violence and aggression are not okay.
Will doubled down and screamed/ verbally assaulted Chris even when he knew his response was out of line- he saw everyone's horrified faces and still chose to double down.
Will then said he was doing god's work and was a vessel of love. That's an interesting way to show love. He didn't even have the decency to apologize to Chris when he was on stage.

He was immature and short tempered. It was a terrible choice. He should be ashamed.
I'm not 'defending' him. What he did was extremely unprofessional. I don't think you can really minimise the medical condition though. Just because someone is not dying doesn't mean they are ok. My niece had alopecia for several years and I know it's something she struggled with a lot mentally, despite it not actually being visible. We discovered a patch missing at the bottom of her hair when she was 10.

All the red table stuff and airing their private lifeā€™s for world to see , what did they expect ? I suspect it wasnā€™t Chris rock and that one joke. But the fact heā€™s been the butt of everyoneā€™s jokes for going on well over a year now .

As a PP said he feels emasculated by his wife . But heā€™s a dick you donā€™t go around in life smacking people because your upset. Regardless of a joke because she has a medicinal condition . You bring your children up and teach them violence is not right not acceptable . Then this is what is all over the TV. I would suspect his career will suffer for it now too.

Wow I'm quite upset about this as I've always enjoyed Will and thought he was level headed and civil.

I think he's had a go at Jada before. When she boycotted the Oscars one year for being too white he apparently said she hadn't been invited. I'd say jada hates CR privately and this was the icing on the cake.

He showed himself up. Rock was doing his job. Smith could have defended Jada without making a show of himself like that.

Genuinely shocked at how many are defending his behaviour.

It was barely a joke, also in GI Jane demi Moore looked gorgeous and was bad ass.

The Smiths have been the butt of jokes for years when it comes to their marriage and sex life, this was a relatively small thing to erupt over. It suggests an inability to control your emotions and anger, or a desperate need for attention...or maybe both.

The mask has well and truly slipped, and in a way I'm not surprised. I've never bought his nice guy image.

God's work = violence then according to Will Smith. That alone is a very problematic statement to make. This is a massive PR fail that will overshadow his win.

Looks like another nail in the coffin of comedy, and these award shows (which seem to lose relevance every year). Producers will be wary of comedy hosts from now on.

Will Smithā€™s a prize idiot, I hope heā€™s ā€œcancelledā€ now. It was his big night & he f****d it up big time.
Iā€™ve suffered from alopecia for over 10 years - I wear wigs & theyā€™ve fallen off in public many times. You just gotta laugh it off. If I was compared to Demi Moore in GI Jane Iā€™d be more than happy!! If my hubby punched someone who was joking about my condition Iā€™d be mortified.
Of course a lot of people are very sensitive about alopecia & people can be cruel but Chrisā€™ joke was pretty tame!
Will thinks heā€™s a type of god & canā€™t be touched - itā€™s a pity heā€™s not being prosecuted!

I can see that youā€™re personally affected by this topic and that sounds very difficult. But CR didnā€™t make a joke about, or mention, alopecia, and for all we know he didnā€™t even know about it. You are assuming he did, but he might not have. He was making a stupid joke about the fact that she looked like GI Jane who it could argued was actually an incredibly fit, strong, independent - and all those things JPS approves of - woman.

And all that aside itā€™s an extremely dodgy road to go down, deciding that some subjects are out of bounds for comedy. Who gets to decide - anyone who is personally offended by something? That would leave very little room for comedy. Will Smith has set an incredibly bad example here.

Yes Demi Moore looked gorgeous. As did Jada last night. And yes his reaction is likely related to him feeling emasculated and a laughing stock about their marriage.

But... a woman losing her hair isn't the same as male pattern baldness. In many ways it could be compared to a visible skin rash. Would it be appropriate to make a joke about that?

There's a good chance Chris didn't know about the alopecia. But that wouldn't stop Jada feeling sensitive about the hair loss.

He talks about his rage issues in his autobiography. When he was just starting out he lived with his high school sweetheart and set fire to all her belongings when they split up šŸš©

That slap was not about his ā€œloveā€ for Jada. Abusers of all kinds have used that rhetoric to excuse behaviour for years. That was about his emasculation as a man.

He didnā€™t ā€œloseā€ it. He slowly and purposely walked onto that stage and chose violence. That was a response, not a reaction. Followed by a gaslighting speech. That man has serious issues.

I didn't assume he knew. I said on another thread he maybe didn't. But that doesn't mean Jada isn't cut up about her hair loss. Some people can laugh it off, my niece certainly couldn't. Plus jada is in the public eye. She definitely didn't look pleased. Did it warrant Will's reaction though? No.

I think Jada has some audacity to be offended considering some of her behaviour and comments to others. Sheā€™s always struck me as a typical Narcissist- she can give it but not take it.

I saw a red table talk where she and Willow got into it and she got all weepy and tried to invalidate willows experience. They have also been in the industry for years, they arenā€™t green.

Whatever happened last night, what Will Smith did was not about Chris Rock

The best response to GI Jane 2 (although not ideal when you aren't mic'ed up against an on stage comedian) would have been 'it couldn't be any worse than Spiral!'
