My boyfriend teases me for being posh, I’m not posh in the slightest, I’m from a working class family and grew up in a bog standard northern mill town, but he says the way I speak is posh and that my family are

my dad was kicked out at 16 has worked hard to have a comfortable life, they have a modest but nice detached house and drive nice but not new cars. I am not by any means spoilt but my dad has never seen me go without when I’ve been on hard times. I really don’t think that makes me/them posh but my boyfriend has other ideas! I guess it’s all relative, his family are very different to mine, I’m an only child, he has 4 brothers and sisters and had it a lot tougher than I did so I can see why he thinks I’m posh, but to me it means something else entirely!
I know a lot of actually ‘posh’ people, and the things which stand out for me, a few of which have already been mentioned are:
Doing their big shop at Waitrose and regarding normal supermarkets or god forbid, Aldi/Lidl as if that would be proper slumming it
Barbour/Hunter everything
Not opening presents on Christmas Day until after the Queen’s speech
Playing polo/water polo
Going on annual family skiing holidays. I once mentioned casually to someone at work that I’d never been skiing and their reaction was as if I’d just said I’d never seen the sea or something

I worked in McDonald’s when I was younger and posh people always look like a fish out of water in there totally perplexed by the menu/ordering system
