My mum is the same but I think it’s a gift to say thank you not like a present for her bday if that makes any sense
I’ve got her a trinket dish which has her name and mother of bride and our wedding date, a little shell candle (as we are getting married abroad), a water bottle which I’m going to personalise. Then I plan to put some little makeup and skincare samples in. I’m thinking I might get her some havianas too with the little personalised gem thing, again suitable for destination wedding.

When we get home I’ll get her and MOG a bunch of flowers too

Yeah I mean not so much the wedding but my bridesmaids and mum planned my whole hen weekend and the groomsmen have done the same for my fiancée.
MOG hasn’t really seemed interested and has been quite negative about it which is why I’m not planning to buy her much

My MIL to be is always bloody negative too! She never really asks about the wedding plans and she’s always trying to talk us out of spending money on things ! She HATES us spending money…

It’s annoying isn’t it! Every time we see her it would be well if this person doesn’t get vaccinated then they can’t come, last time she came round I told my fiancée to tell her not to bring up covid and the wedding as I’m sick of talking about it and her being so negative and moaning.
When it’s your money too it’s nothing to do with her I do feel like some of the older generation perhaps don’t understand, of course it’s entirely up to you what you have at your wedding but there are so many more options nowadays and additional things to have to make it fun or special for guests. Weddings are a lot bigger nowadays!

Mil hasn't been asked for a penny for the wedding nor has she offered (she has plenty) but is constantly saying "well do you need that" after we went to see the venue we ended up booking she sent us one she found that was £30 per head.... there is a reason it was £30 a head, let's just say that.
My partner and I make good money, we have a house, nice cars and our baby has everything he needs, why shouldn't we spend money on a wedding if that's what we want to do?

Oh no glad I’m not alone in this! We are the same, we have good jobs, own our home, and we have a very good amount of savings for our age, but she never comments on how well we are doing, she just tries to talk us out of spending money!
The best thing I learned a long time ago was to just ignore her advice because I always regret listening to her when she wants us to go cheap!

Seems a traditional thing to do? We wont be getting the in laws anything. They have made no effort at all with the wedding, even down to their attendance, they just cant be bothered.

We’re paying for everything ourselves and no one has done any work towards the wedding apart from me and my planner, so I think I’ll skip this for both tbh. Especially since we’re getting married abroad. I can always gift a framed photo afterwards but I’m not giving this any brain space beforehand

Mine was about 5/6k

I got my parents presents and for me , it wasn’t about what they were contributing towards the wedding but it was more of a thank you and appreciation for everything they had done for me bringing me up , making me who I was before I started a new life with my husband
