Hey 👋

im massively overthinking what to give my bridesmaids as gifts. Does anyone have any inspiration?

I’ve very much been avoiding anything personalised or with ‘bride’ ‘hen’ ‘bridesmaid’ etc written on it, so was thinking of getting us all a nice set of Chelsea peers pyjamas for the morning of and then getting them a nice candle each. Is that normal/enough?
I got mine a necklace and earring set with their birthstones - they wore on the day but could also wear after the day too! X

that sounds great!!

I got personalised bridesmaids boxes made just with their names on it which I thought they could maybe use again to keep wee keepsakes in, which is what my little sister has done.

in them I’d pjs,
little bottles of their fave drinks (au vodka can for my little sister 🙃)
Some fluffy socks which I thought they could maybe wear the morning off when getting ready in the hotel
I think a candle?
and these small little roller ball bottles of perfume from white company which aren’t expensive but I’d known they’d liked on a shopping trip we had months previous into town.

I didn’t spend too much, just filled the box with wee things I knew they’d like and appreciate rather than having anything too wedding related. Weddings are pricey enough so don’t feel too much pressure to go OTT with the gifts.

also paid for their hair/makeup which I’m going to count 😂

I was exactly the same as you! In the end, I planned to change into new white trainers for the evening do so I got them matching trainers as well.

They loved them and have worn again since so it isn't a present just sitting at the back of a cupboard 💖

UK brides, when did you start shopping for your wedding dresses?

Ultimately, my dilemma comes down to the fact that I don't feel great in my own skin currently. If I waited until March (one year before our wedding), would this be cutting it quite fine? In an ideal world, I'd lose about about a stone between now and that time and in a less than ideal world, maybe I'd learn to love myself a bit more by then lol, but I just don't want to stress myself out because I've left it too late

I think a year in advance is plenty of time, I ordered mine in January this year from MWL and they said a year is about right. Our wedding is February 2026 and the dress arrived a month ago, just needs some alterations. I went to a different shop to try on and they said 8 months 😳 couldn’t leave it that late.

I got mine about a year before the wedding (also in march) and I’d booked in for alterations about once a month starting in the December. I ended up losing 2.5 stone so my dress needed a good bit of work done. But the year was more than enough time :)

If you’re wanting one that’s made to order then a year is fine. If you’re happy to buy off the rack then a couple of months before the wedding is fine 🤣 I had to buy a new dress for mine which I got around 3 months before the wedding as it was off the rack. I already had my seamstress booked though.

Did anyone pay for a company to do venue dressing for them?

Our venue is quite small so doesn't need much but I have no clue what a rough figure is. All we really want is sashes for the chairs and some bits for the table, alter and aisle but I have no clue where to even begin!

I did, it was about £500, we had table cloths, chair covers, centre pieces and signs etc, she also arranged things like our card box and some DIY bits we had.

We couldn't get into our venue until midday on our wedding day (we got married at 4) and so it would have made getting ready a bit rushed without her.

She took care of all the hiring of table cloths and wotnot, and also taking everything down and returning it the next day which was a big helped and saved us a job. That was totally worth it, as trying to source and do that ourselves would have been a pain!

I did consider buying all our stuff and then trying to sell it afterwards but in hindsight im so glad I didnt as it would have been a hassle.

Very similar for us. Some of the things were included in our package but we paid around £400 extra for the extras we wanted. She sorted it all, including any personalised bits we wanted and gave her to sort. She also dealt with the florist for set up and take down. Made it so easy!

I've booked a wedding dress appointment for March, and I'm really excited for it. Less excited for the cost of wedding dresses though and honestly feel really anxious at the thought of spending over £1,200 on a wedding dress, which will then require a few hundred pounds of tailoring on top of that cost.

I've seen some online at Azazie that are absolutely gorgeous, same with JJ's house and a fraction of the price. I know these will also require a lot of tailoring but the initial cost is definitely more appealing. I've paid £45 for an appointment at a boutique near me, and I was going to go with my bridesmaids and future mother in law. Am I being a bit silly if I keep this appointment despite thinking I probably won't end up purchasing my dress from this place, as I think I'd still like the experience of going to a dress shop and having the fuss? Or am I just wasting everyone's time doing this if I don't end up saying 'yes to the dress'?

No, go to the appointment as will give you some idea of what you like/want/suits you. You may well surprise yourself too and go with something you least expected. At least if you then purchase cheaper elsewhere you know what you want and won't have the hassle of returns etc! Have fun! ❤

I got my dress for around £750 down from £1800 (so they said, probably wasn't 😂) from a wedding dress shop - you basically buy the dress as seen there and then but it was in perfect condition. It did need a bit of work done to it though closer to the time as I'd lost weight. I think the alterations were maybe around £250.
So don't worry or fret about the costs, there are so many stunning dresses out there for a fraction of what you think you will pay - just go and enjoy the experience, get an idea on what style you like, get an idea on what suits your body and just enjoy it. Don't worry if there is nothing there you like or if everything is really expensive, you don't have to just go with the first shop you try. You will find the one :)

I bought my bridesmaid dresses from Azazie and have to say the quality was fantastic. They took around 3 weeks to come and they did need taking up a bit but they were stunning dresses on the girls. They have got an option on there to send in your exact measurements to have the dress tailored for you too which is handy.
