I'm off to the Running thread. Those people baffle and intrigue me, but they're nice and normal. Well, as normal as running for pleasure can ever be...

Most fascinating section of society for me. People who run for pleasure. I’m not even joking my friend goes on holiday and RUNS. EVERY DAY. While I’m by the pool chain smoking fags. Good on her. Sure she will run all the way to my early funeral.

Agreed. Regardless of what you thought of her article, he seemed to really go off there into way more depth than anyone asked for, and it's not a good article (it is on Medium after all, where I understand authors can self-publish). Also including pictures of her children, even if their eyes are blanked out, is creepy and unwarranted. It had nothing to do with them.

It’s such 4am rage typing...honestly I got the sensation of being drunk reading it There were so many typos and tangents and parts where the sentence just changed mid way. Can totally imagine him having a Vonny crime board in his basement covered in red string.

And sorry, I just cannot accept cyclists as an oppressed category of people. Ffs

I was speculating a little about other demographics but the pattern of feigning membership of a group to then lead (astray) or exploit that group is clearly there. I only found this thread when I tried to find out why/where "Vonny" had disappeared and this is nearly top of Google search results. Still confused why she just disappeared.

It's more likely than Moyes being incompetent at what she does or her employer not wanting what they got. The article linked goes into great detail, more than most want (or can deal with) apparently. Whilst at the National her ultimate employer was a bunch of excecutives at Gannett Media which included CEOs from a weapons manufacturer Northrup Grummen, a Trans Arabian oil pipeline, and one from the same record label that lists Beyonce. Of course you'll find anti-racism cosplays with the aim of selling music but packaged as social commentary. Likewise, Gannett has a bunch of online car sales websites and of course you'll find anti-cycling stories across their list of publications.

It's very possible that Moyes was just the sex appeal to sell articles written by other people which could go some length to explain the schizophrenia.

Still surprised that people would think "left liberal socialist" types, someone said Vonny even had a communist phase, would be employed by a media outlet so intertwined with the military industrial complex to be their authentic selves.

This is probably the weirdest turn the Vonny thread has taken, and that is saying something. She hasn’t worked for Gannet/The National for about 3 years, yet still behaves in an incredulous manner and writes nonsense.

Can we get back to the usual Vonny speculation?

Is Vonny aware of this thread? I’m surprised she’s not waded in.

No idea but my feeling is no. I suspect we'd have seen some sort of reaction and I think the deletion of Twitter was prompted this time by lying about being vegan and getting called out as much as anything else.

Okay so I found y’all today (thank you btw, it’s been VERY enlightening!!) I simply googled her name today because I wondered why her socials weren’t showing up in my feed anymore and I quickly came across this thread. You really think she doesn’t regularly google herself?

I got the Late Bloomer newsletter, probably still have them somewhere on my burner email account. Before she started doing it, she was going on about how people shouldn't send her stuff in the mail without first letting her know what it was, she made a big song and dance about getting a package and not wanting to open it because I guess she thought it might contain anthrax or something lols. But then she sends out this newsletter to any old person who signed up for it .... and put her home address at the bottom of it .

The newsletter itself was terrible, with completely out-of-date recommendations. She was all like 'wow I just watched this amazing obscure documentary' and it turns out that it's one which won an actual Oscar for best documentary several years ago. Finger on the pulse as ever.
