Listen, I feel bad for her children. I feel bad for anyone who's unlucky enough to know and / or be related to her. But what are we meant to do? Just keep silent while she's constantly misrepresenting who she is, not only on her twitter feed and insta but inside the pages of newspapers and on the telly and radio? While she's selling stories about how one of her kids almost died, complete with emergency room selfies? While she's telling us she recovered from ME and recommending hugely expensive and completely nonsense Lightning Process in the Guardian? While she's taking in respected journalists from America to punt herself as the face of the longest COVID ever? While she's harvesting sensitive personal information about sexual assaults from her unwitting followers? I haven't even gotten into the trail of dead kittens she leaves in her wake, complete with Munchie-style medical 'interventions' including sticking little bits of plastic into the most recent dying kitten's mouth. We're all just to allow her to tit on anyone and everyone who has the misfortune to cross her path, to the point of trying to take her own sister to court for questioning her 'reality'? Her fanaticism has been the biggest open secret on the twitter backchannels for years now and yet she was still getting commissions which furthered her career, so it's clear the powers-that-be are (or were) in the dark about what they were dealing with. And we're meant to just wilfully ignore it and allow her to carry on as she was? That does no one any favours, least of all her. Least of all, her children.

I think it’s simple - she has very much made herself a public figure and uploaded an immense amount of information about her personal life to the internet. - it’s totally unreasonable to expect that that info, bizarre and contradictory as it is, will be treated sympathetically.

Some people here know her via an acquaintance or just from twitter following over the years, but ultimately we all find her a strange/intriguing/amusing/irritating personality to share stories of. Her kids have come up in passing, but ultimately would it not be extremely strange to pour over them in a thread on a gossip website? I don’t know what the response expected there is - to file a social services report? Vonny doesn’t strike me as an evil person who is putting her children’s lives in risk. She seems a not particularly nice woman who achieves her goals in life through manipulation, exaggeration and adaptation, and she does this all as publicly as is possible. Pretty fair game for comment in my book 🤷🏻‍♀️

No idea who she is but searched for her and ended up here.

I agree with absolutely everything you have said and I think everything you have said makes you arseholes.

You are all motivated by boredom but somehow I’ve written a 500 word essay on a gossip site.

Ok!

"you should stop talking in case her children find this site in millenia to come" - not sure I'm following this script tbh

It's pretty straight forward. If you try to turn yourself into a celebrity by obsessively posting about every aspect of your life, people are gonna notice when you lie and contradict yourself.

I have had the misfortune of knowing her in real life for some time, initially as a friend but then distancing myself after realising my mistake. Frankly, her constant stream of fantasy was all pretty funny... until some years later she kept turning up like a bad penny at work, duping colleagues and risking professional reputations. So I've ended up here for two reasons. One, relief that people have noticed her lies because I honestly began to wonder if she was better at it than I thought, and two, it sounds daft but I want to be sure I have enough current awareness to opt out of any professional involvement in future, and I'm blocked from her social media after questioning her lockdown behaviour.

And surely if anyone should stop talking to avoid her kids getting caught up in all this nonsense it really ought to be Vonny. She's not as good at erasing her past(s) as she thinks, they're going to be haunted by far more than Tattle.

Also, think it’s safe to say we know her kids are safe as they don’t live with her much, and seem to have secure homes with their fathers.

Moving on...

Of course I feel sorry for her children, now that it is apparent that all is not well with their mother! I am certainly not revelling in her downfall/ mental health problems.

I am here, I suppose, because I thought that some things didn’t add up e.g the trajectory of her career, her academic achievements, her skills/ talents all while bringing up 4 children. As I said before I actually feel a sense of relief that she hasn’t done all of these things because the image of Vonny achieving all of these things by her early 30s made me view her as some kind of superwoman.

Some of the stuff went over my head - I had no idea about academic Vonny - I don’t remember all the Academy stuff - and now feel pretty silly for being sucked into all that stuff.

I am horrified at the appropriation of Judaism. I feel it’s at a level of Rachel Dozel’s impersonation of a Black woman level of deceit.

Also she threw the POC moderators under the bus in her Anti Racist Scotland group. They were vastly more experienced/ qualified / intelligent than she was but she brought them in because she thought she could “do” anti-racism and that she would benefit from proximity to them. They left and run a much better and focused group which is doing really well.

I'm here as a working class journalist who's continually bemused at the opportunities afforded to Vonny - whichsome of us would have to work really, really bleeping hard for. I would never dream of inventing personal experiences so I could write about them and it really rubs me the wrong way that someone so unqualified can just wangle their way in to the industry like she has, by lying.

It's especially galling that her chosen profession is / was journalism, where truth, you know, .... matters.

She is not a journalist... she works lower-middle content jobs and has wangled herself a few opinion bylines. Which would be great progress for any normal person but compared to her claims is pretty unextraordinary.

I remember her giving a very begrudging retraction on twitter for sharing inaccurate news re BLM days and defending that as a mistake made in the enthusiasm of allyship.

Honestly, God help anyone who relies on Vonny’s enthusiastic allyship 😄 Best you’ll get is an op-ed which is 95% about her

Yeah, Glasgow is a pretty small world and I know too many people who have had run-ins and bad experiences with her. I could never understand how she was just constantly *around*, none of the things she said (or plain lies) ever added up. I'm glad I found this thread and it wasn't just me who thought it.

I don't think there's anything morally wrong with questioning the persona created by someone if things just don't add up. If you publicly broadcast certain 'facts' about yourself which are later easily proven to be false then why should people turn a blind eye? If no one ever questioned the facts the world would be overrun with fantasists.

I understand that this scrutiny might be difficult for people to swallow particularly if underlying mental issues are present, but i believe it's totally valid to question lies and fabrications when they are presented as facts on a public forum.

I think what a lot of people take issue with is the fact that people like Vonny seem to exist in all walks of life. We have all experienced a colleague who seems to be held up as an example of success but, on deeper examination, a lot of their credentials are heavily fabricated or even non-existant. I'm not saying this is the case with Vonny because I don't know the ins and outs of her career but I think people's reaction stems from the same impulse.

On Vonny's own website she states her ethics and guidelines as a journalist, stating that she will always strive to present the facts and that journalistic integrity should always be paramount. It's interesting that this does not necessarrily translate to her reporting of her own life.

I’m sorry I know there are a couple of exes on the thread and slightly off topic, but her husbands hair just gives me the baulk. Unless you’re in a 90s grunge band I just think that long straggly hair on men is the worst...couldn’t even hack it when Leonardo di Carpio had it for that Iron Mask film.

Ever since seeing the “You’re not taking my BRITISH money?!?” meltdown I’ve had such an aversion to him 😬 I’d be tempted to say that he’s actually a bit out of his league with Vonny but then she does lose points for being somewhat unhinged
I actually get the full body shivers when I think about him touching me now. And not in the good way. But to be fair to him his hair is very good and soft and not at all bad.

One thing that has occurred to me as well is that if she is indeed being dishonest about having long Covid, how potentially damaging that will be to others.

I know from experience that when someone looks visibly OK but has symptoms such as fatigue not everyone really believes that you are sick. There is a lot of pressure to push yourself and a lack of sympathy in general. If someone is revealed to have been dishonest in this way - especially as they have been really prominent in the narrative- this could cause significant harm.

I think this is a really simple example of Vonnys habit of needlessly stretching the truth in the ‘eleven-arief’ style:

she says: watching on FIVE screens
He says : watching on THREE screens
We say: why are you posting this?!
