I thought it was really irresponsible for her to say it was "okay" and "safe" because she got good vibes from him.
it shows her naïveity if anything. I rolled my eyes so hard because jfc he sounded like a huge red flag asking them to go to lie on a mattress with him, also felt like she was shading her friend Kerry for not entertaining this guys bs but seems like she had more sense than her

Jade's video about her 'Impossible List' came up on my YouTube feed and honestly I don't know if I'm just being dramatic but it really pisses me off how she basically talks about how she created this list at 16, and it's a list you can 'iterate and improve on' as if she was so knowledgeable and mature at 16 years old. She couldn't just have a normal bucket list could she? She had to make it into a really obscure and 'UniQUe' practice to make her stand out.

In addition to her using the word 'Ch*v', it's a vile, classist slur which is unfortunately a really innate part of British language, but it just goes to prove how ignorant she is. I remember before she went to Uganda she spoke a lot about not wanting to be a White Saviour, but she's the literal definition. Believes she's a fountain of knowledge on black issues, and wider world issues, when really she's a privileged snob who's parents probably voted Conservative and believe that poor people deserve to die.

The comments about Jade thinking she's a fountain of knowledge are perfect! I've wondered why I've disliked her in the past year-ish so much and THAT IS IT. She thinks she knows everything if she reads an article or spends a day watching a documentary and reading a book on a topic. Even in Minerva when she acted like she was becoming a master coder because she did one class on basic coding skills. Not to mention social justice, yes she keeps herself vaguely educated and informed and I'm glad she uses her platform for good but it comes off as so preachy and entitled because it's as if she knows everything when she clearly clearly doesn't. She genuinely thinks she is so wise and educated for doing the bare minimum sometimes

I forgot about her friend that she went travelling with! I remember in her Australia vlogs there was always an awkward vibe between them, whether that was just Kerry not wanting to be on camera much and not being as outgoing as Jade or not I'm not sure, but either way it always came across as really uncomfortable lol

Yeah, it's just her thing. She thinks she understands every university now she's been there for a year and can categorically say that Minerva is ~so different~ from them all even though, apart from their weird traditions, Minerva is exactly the same as every other university. I really hope she grows out of it because it's kind of annoying constantly seeing her be like 'Guys! I spent one week learning about this thing, now I know it all, and I'm going to teach you guys!'

I don’t know if she actually believes what she says about Minerva being sooo much harder etc than other unis or she is doing it to advertise Minerva/ try and get a career for herself based on her *amazinky difficult * degree ?

I'd buy that she believes it. She doesn't seem to have many real life friends who are at uni and would talk about it with her and I notice she's distanced herself from most of the Studytubers she used to be friends with. I think part of it is also telling herself that it's more difficult to try and 'get back' at Oxford for rejecting her.

Her saviour bull is driving me mad! Yes Jade you’ve read a book but are you challenging your dad on his company? What is their equality like? What about where you live? All well and good getting hyped up about those cultural evenings they have but it comes across as a fetish (not quite the right word) She goes preachy very quickly!

I used to really like Jade and her content when she first started, but after having a conversation with one of my friends about her it really brought to light just how ‘in another world’ Jade is.

I 100% agree with the whole ‘holier than thou’ view of her. She just thinks she knows it all, and because she’s such a ‘fountain of all knowledge’ she just can’t come across as relatable anymore. At least in her old content she would just behave like a relatively normal person. As time has gone on however, and since her ‘gap yah’ (it was a classic British white girls year out to volunteer and travel in Australia/Europe, she’s not special) and starting ~Minerva~ she’s just lost touch with reality.

Majority of higher education institutions are equally as diverse as Minerva, they just stay in one country rather than forcing students to spend 1000s on flights every 6 months. And I’m sure her work isn’t as hard as she makes it out.... im sure jade would’ve made out that any course she did was super busy and stressful, because she’s ‘NoT liKe OtHer GiRlS’.

I just can’t stand her content anymore, and I agree, lockdown hasn’t helped her. All these studytubers who rely on overworking themselves for views just can’t produce what their brand is about anymore. For Jade, it’s like she’s trying to regress back to her gap year to keep her content going, because outside of school, that’s all she knows.

I can’t believe she acts as if she’s all for diversity and inclusion and then starts off with her GAP YAH video talking about ‘chavs’. Classism isn’t a good look, Jade

So she's not going to Seoul this autumn but is going in January instead and won't be going to India. She has to choose between studying in London or Berlin for her autumn semester. Idk why for a uni that's taught entirely online they don't just let their students stay at home for the autumn semester rather than expecting them to travel at a time where travel is dangerous?

Also I hate that now with this coronavirus situation she's all happy that "education is going through a revolution" because lectures are being taught online because, well, online education sucks.
I had to attend my physics lab online and it went as well as you can imagine, it was a year worth of lab lost. And following lectures all alone at home, sitting in front of a computer for hours, is really draining and difficult for me, not to mention depressing . She chose that kind of education so good for her, but she could avoid sounding so happy about the fact that that's being imposed upon all of us now!
If anything having a taste of online education made me question minerva even more.

I wonder what she’s planning to do post-Minerva. Has she ever said what she’s actually studying or her major/focus? I don’t watch her but I’m just a little curious because it clearly isn’t designed for the hard sciences and I take it she's lost interest in biology. I just see her continuing to use her platform to virtue signal and smugly proclaim how special Minerva is. Maybe she will follow in daddy’s footsteps eventually?

The irony is that Minerva isn’t exactly that ‘revolutionary’ anymore when everyone is online now, travelling is a lot more difficult if not impossible, and the cost is still a lot pricier than a European uni.

Yeh online learning is only possible for specific subjects / courses . She just sounds like she is trying to hard to justify her Minerva choice

Minerva only works because of its limited courses. You wouldn’t be able to physically teach the majority of arts related courses which require a studio/workspace to store work. They’re loosing a massive demographic of people by the way they run the university and I think the whole idea of diversity shouldn’t just be based on the fact they travel the globe etc, but also on the types of classes they offer, who can actually afford to go there, and because of that, who are they limiting their university to?

cutting off entire groups of subjects doesn’t scream diversity to me.

For me it seems , the more I think about it, kind of similar to the sorority/frat system in the US, you pay to join one, hopefully get in, then make contacts who will help you later. With all the internships they manage to wrangle their students they must have an insane range of contacts who will help later

There's so much that could be done to encourage students to have a truly international education if they were allowed to learn at actual universities in these countries. You could have literature students learning about classic literature around the world, history students learning about the history of all these countries, business students learning about local business practices, etc. Instead they're just being taught at a distance by an American uni whilst inexplicably forced to move around the world for 'culture' even though Minerva doesn't seem to actually encourage them to engage with the region they're in.
