Also, you can’t exactly ‘reset’ when you have to learn to face the reality that you’ll either be taking exams in October (and will therefore have to be revising) or that you’ll have to reapply (and will have to put so much effort into UCAS all over again). It’s not a case of resetting Jade, it’s a case of coming to terms with it, and being okay with being sad etc. Not just forgetting it ever happened, because that won’t get anyone anywhere.

The whole idea of a-levels (education in general i guess) being a ‘stepping stone’ really infuriates me. Yes, it is, you only need a levels to get into uni, apprenticeship job etc and once you start your career they generally become less relevant

but when it’s your CURRENT stepping stone, it’s the single most important thing to you. I can look back and laugh at myself crying over my alevels and the stress I put myself under because I know now my life turns out ok
But at the time they were the most important thing to me, I thought I’d get no where without Bs and a good degree etc
To tell people their grades aren’t important is so so insanely insensitive to everyone who worked for their entire education to get to where they are

Exactly! Not to forget that it's the information that's fed to students all the time. You're told that exams are what matters, getting good grades matters, excelling in school is what matters most. I know in the grand scheme they're not as huge as school makes them out to be, but when it's all you've known for the 14 years of being in school you can hardly blame these kids for being upset.

Especially as she made such a fuss about her exams, imagine she was getting a levels now. She would be going mad

Unsure if throwing your clothes out to replace them with newer ones you like more is "minimalist"

That's what I was thinking while watching the video! Because sometimes she said that getting rid of some clothes was difficult because she liked them, but she did it anyways in the name of minimalism, and I don't know, maybe is the broke student in me talking, but why. If the clothes are still good and I still like them (I support getting rid of things that still fit but you don't like anymore) I don't see why I would get rid of them just to have less! But maybe I just don't get minimalism.

She sounded like she watched some Marie Kondo videos and decided to keep only the ones that ‘spark joy’

Which is fine when you're not on a tight budget and can't afford to throw out perfectly good clothes, irrespective of whether they "spark joy" or not.

Nevertheless, it looks like she has very few clothes now, I wonder how often she does the laundry and how many times she wears each piece.
(Didn’t finish the video though)

I feel like she won't stick with this anyway. As soon as she gets to Berlin or Korea and wants to be ~cultured~ she'll buy new clothes anyway.

I'm all for buying more sustainably if you can - which Jade definitely can, but why does she need to restrict what she owns? Why throw away clothes you still like and wear? This deffo could be just me though because my wardrobe is packed 😂

I agree that there were some kinda illogical points in her video but on the whole this was one of the first videos of hers that i've enjoyed in a loooooong time. made me realise that i still really like her but i cannot stand her preachy condescending videos. i wish she'd post stuff like this more often - more 'normal', ordinary content and less 'i took myself out on a date! so unique!!' or 'i've been reading about this topic for a week. basically an expert now. lemme tEACH you.'

“Gaps years are underrated” no Jade, some of us are just poor
I spent my "gap year" working to be able to afford schooling, as did many people I went to school with. Gap years aren't just about travelling the world on mummy and daddy's dime, Jade. She is so unaware of the privilege she has, it's ridiculous.

Her little 2 second comment in her new video about how it was a privilege to be able to buy sustainably really isn’t enough to actually address how privileged she is

I feel like minimalism is something that people with lots of money try and do to subconsciously try and suppress their privilege.

Like, anyone who can’t afford to have a ‘full’ wardrobe of clothes would literally not think twice about buying stuff in order to have clothes on their back, or just to feel like they have some more clothes.

Minimalism seems like a bit of a backwards ‘trend’ of people trying to connect with themselves (like Jade) through having less, when in reality, they have more than so many people could even think of. Just seems so so strange. *edit* at least in jades case, this is the vibe she gives me.

I would have been more understand if she had done this pre uni, being like I don’t need as much stuff as it’s got to fit into x suitcase, but wha so the point now?

If this is her take on minimalism, she must have been doing her research while she was drunk on her ego. Having less isn't about throwing perfectly functioning items that you use and like. It's just against senseless consumerism, buying for the sake of buying, owning for the sake of having more. Making do with what you own and buying with intention. Why would anyone get rid of clothes that they like and still wear? She has no grasp on anything she claims to be passionate about, it's really irritating. Marie Kondo is judging her.

If she ever needs a new title “ drunk on her ego” has to feature in the title 😂 I just saw a story of how in Berlin she’ll live with 2 fellow Minerva students, I think this is such a bad idea as you don’t really have a chance to get to know the society you’re in properly. I did erasmus in 2 different countries and always made sure I shared flats with people who lived there rather than just students from my uni/ other erasmus students
