I don't particularly like the man. I don't agree with his politics either but I like the fact he is standing because it will make the tories tit themselves more than they are already. It isn't the left/centre vote that is being split - he's splitting the right.You should see the meltdown on X.The backing he is getting is huge. Its game on and they know it!
Do I want him to win in Clacton? No. Will I be shocked if he does? Also no.
ETA - the backing he is getting on X might be huge but X were backing Jeremy Corbyn pretty heavily in 2019 and look how that turned out. X isn't always the best benchmark. You may want to keep track of the Yougov/Britain Elects etc polls over the coming weeks as well as X - see how it compares.
I want him to win Clacton. If they're dumb enough to vote for him then let them deal with the consequences of having a careerist MP who doesn't actually give a tit about the area. And if he does win then the Tories will have to respond to the pressure of him over the next few years which means Labour even more likely to win and stay in. A hilarious, but generally good, incident.
I just want these people to put their votes where their mouth is.
They loudly back the likes of Laurence Fox and Farage on social media but when it comes to polling day they either can't or won't vote, leaving their "heroes" embarrassed and beaten by anonymous candidates wearing costumes.

At last a reasonable response to today's news with no name calling required.
Just to add to this, there are also people that were probably only going to vote Labour (right wing) as there was no real alternative. Nigel at the helm changes that and gives Tory, Labour, Leave and non voters a reason to get out and vote. The more they talk about Labour walking this (which they will) there will be people that won't be bothered to vote as they will see it as a forgone conclusion. Today's announcement has changed things massively whether people like it not.

How wasn't there an alternative when Reform UK was already standing?

That's a fair point. For the sake of the people in Clacton I hope he doesn't but I do think he stands a good chance there.

Deadline for candidate nominations is 4pm on Friday. Today Nigel Farage announced he will stand in Clacton, he's also taking over from Tice as leader of Reform.
