to those people that have seen ghosts with their own eyes, do they look like solid people including loved ones that have passed on?

For me they've either been solid like a normal person, or solid but slightly see through and always seem very pale/grey.

We've had many, many cats over the years (live on a farm and always adopt old ones from the SPCA).

But for the past couple of years we've had a ghost kitten ... it's pure black (we've never had a pure black cat before, let alone a kitten), and is incredibly playful in the wee small hours. I catch glimpses of him (have nicknamed him "Sparkles") out the corner of my eye just as I'm about to turn the light on (I see his shadow from the passage lights), but as soon as the light goes on he vanishes. Two of our four cats can see or sense him - they either sit staring at what appears to be nothing, transfixed on it, or murmur-purr as if they're talking to someone. Sometimes while sleeping I've felt something little and light crawl on me (too light for our cats) and if I reach out to touch it there's nothing there. He plays with my hair a lot when I'm sleeping, too. Weirdly, my husband - who is not at all spiritual - has seen Sparkles out the corner of his eye too.

I woke up during the night and shifted position. My large black and white cat was on my feet. She jumped off the bed when I moved and plodded heavily out of the room (wooden floors).

Nothing unusual other than she’d died of old age a couple of years before.

Strange but true....so I was 10/11 weeks pregnant, this was my second pregnancy and I had unfortunately miscarried the first. Because of that miscarriage I was due to have an ultrasound on the following Monday. I came home from work on the Friday before and was quietly sitting reading when I felt something that I can only describe as a sigh, a big sigh but it was not me sighing, it was an internal sigh and it went through my body and left. I thought it was really odd and worried about the baby but nothing untoward happened until I went for the scan and the doctor told me the baby had died. I wondered about it for years until I watched a YouTube video about a woman who had a near death experience and her description of when she left her body was so similar to what I had experienced I am convinced that that was the soul leaving my body. I did go on to have a successful pregnancy and have a beautiful son now. I have never heard of anyone else having this experience so if you have please tell me.

Sorry about your losses, I didn’t have the same experience as you when I miscarried. With my miscarriage pregnancy I knew from day 1 that I was I just felt strange the day after having sex. I had this feeling for the 8 weeks and then one day I just felt like I was me again, if you get me, and then the bleeding happened a couple of days after xx

My Uncle and I were really close and in fact he had lived with me and my husband for 3 years. One night we were discussing life after death and we agreed whoever died first would try to contact the other. I moved 500 miles away from him and had less contact with him in his later years, although he was invited he never came to the house I now live in. My mother (who lives abroad) could not get in touch with him for about a week so I phoned the police and asked them to check on him, he had died. I went to his house and then to the funeral over a period of 3 weeks. One night I had a dream that was so vivid and so real. I was walking down a street and I had a sense of him but I couldn't see him. He shouted out to me 'Hello Mother' so loudly that I woke up. You see even though I was his niece he always called me mother I have no idea why but he did. I was so freaked out by this that I didn't sleep the rest of the night!

Some great ghost stories here. I've been waiting to find a thread about this on here. For many years I was part of a team that investigate haunted buildings. We were a team of six and well balanced between the believers and non-believers. I am a believer and have had a fair share of spooky experiences over the years and as someone who investigates such things I often get asked what is the scariest thing to happen.

We were told by another team about a location on the south side of Edinburgh. It was an underground series of tunnels - although not part of the Edinburgh Vaults. I used to do the history research for the team and it was such a strange place with some really dark stuff having gone on in the past. When we arrived I was amazed that the staff basically said that they weren't going to be hanging around - normally there is a member of staff stay on site for H&S reasons but in this case they couldn't get away quick enough. They left us a key and told us to lock up before we left.

The investigation progressed as usual, walkarounds, listening to what the psychic could pick up and so on and we decided to stick together for a bit as it wasn't a very big place. One of the caves many uses had been as a bar and there was these booths carved out of stone so we sat at one of them and it was at the very back of the caves. There was one way in and one way out which was down a set of metal steps. It wasn't the most thrilling of investigations up until that point and I was beginning to get a bit bored being honest. The place was said to be linked to the Knights Templar and we were having a discussion about it when suddenly something rushed at us. You could hear the footsteps crashing down the metal steps and along the cave at such a great speed and it stopped just behind me. I went into full Yvette Fielding mode and actually ended up on top of the rest of the team and if I could have crashed through the wall to get out I would have. The person opposite me said that it was a dark figure.

I was thrown for the rest of the night and if I could have I would have just left. I don't think I've ever been so frightened in all the years I have done this and I still don't really know why it scared me so much, I don't know if it was the speed of it happening or what, I don't know. Even thinking logically I can't think of what it could have been. We were underground and could hear traffic above us at certain times but it hadn't been like that and it certainly wasn't rigged by the location as I'm sure it would have flagged up from other teams that we were all getting the same thing. It was such a talking point within the team when we were next in the area we decided to face our demons as it were and go back for a tour during the day. I got as far as those metal steps and had to walk away. Next time I won't be so lucky - we have decided to go back post lockdown for round 2.
I have got goose pimples after reading that. 😮👻

I absolutely love this thread! I love the way it....dies and comes back again.....as it were.

My grandmother had a very sad descent into dementia for the last few years of her life. She still lived in her own home but depended heavily on my mum who was her sole carer. She became very difficult and argumentative (purely a side effect of her illness as she was a lovely lady). A few days after she died my mum and dad were at her house and the stereo system came on of its own accord and played a track from the middle of the CD that was in it. It was Frank Sinatra singing My Way. Which was very apt- she definitely did.

Growing up, I lived in quite a creepy house. When going to bed and everyone upstairs was accounted for, you'd hear cupboard doors opening and drawers in the kitchen directly underneath my room and general noise downstairs. It was so weird how the house came alive when we all went to bed upstairs. I've heard breathing outside the bathroom door when I was in it once and everyone was asleep at like 3am. The reason I heard it through the door is cos the door was one of those old fashioned sliding doors instead of a usual open shut door. I tit you not, a balloon that got thrown away since it deflated was found up full of air the next day in the lounge. Shadow people were seen a lot and the usual spooky things.

Moving on to my student share, that place was eerie. You'd hear footsteps there too, heard by the 3 of us that lived there. Usually when one of us was home alone and everyone was away. My student house was 3 levels and my level was the only one with a bedroom, the other 2 rooms where above me and you'd hear furniture sliding, conversations and footsteps. I'd somehow have the balls to go and see what was going on thinking my housemates were home, even though I would have heard them come up past my level to get to their rooms. Nobody there. My house mate thought that they saw a young man in the kitchen once walking past it out of their peripheral. There were cold spots and feeling of being watched, it wasn't pleasant. I did my best to keep away from the houseshare when my other housemates weren't home.

Not a ghost story as such, but just been away and stayed in an old farmhouse, really creaky, noises at night that I think were mice etc. Anyway, every time I got to the bottom of the stairs I got the strangest feeling that there should have been more stairs to go down, every time. So not sure if there was a cellar there previously, I just knew that there was meant to be more stairs. And one of the sitting rooms had a really creepy vibe lol

Not really a ghost sighting, but as a teenager I went on holiday with my friend and some of her family. We stayed in a caravan by the coast somewhere. One night after the adults went to bed, we stayed up drinking and talking - I mentioned how my stepmum went on a lot of caravan holidays and her and her family always did Ouija boards in them. My friend started joking about, saying 'shall we do one now? Knock twice if someone's there!' and we both started laughing.

I tit you not, about 10 seconds later we heard a very definite two knocks that sounded like they came from the kitchen. We stopped and stared at each other before nervously laughing it off. Then, the entire caravan started to shake and vibrate. We both asked the other whether we could feel it, and I distinctly remember looking at a glass bottle on the table and seeing it move, so I know it was real. It only lasted less than a minute but we were both so freaked we went to bed.

The next morning none of the adults said they felt the shaking.

My cousin has a child was very into electricals. He once managed to wire car battery to a battery operated light in his room during a blackout.

He died young after a car wreck and the night before his funeral we all were sitting in my aunt's lounge and the fuse went in the electric box. ( The electrical box was above the door in the living room and you needed a step ladder to get at it) when my uncle took the fuse out to change it. It was perfectly fine, so he put it back in and the electric work fine again.

It was so lovely to read this because I've had something similar in my house, too.

I have a black cat named Reggie who I often think I 'see' out the corner of my eye, my partner see's him too and often chases this 'black thing' thinking it's Reggie being playful only to find him (the actual cat) sitting in a room sleeping.

I initially first thought it was my dog summer who had passed away a couple of years ago... until, our next door neighbors informed us that a dachshund who was owned by the previous residents had been buried in the garden... so, I'm sure it must be him/her.

I had a strange experience last year. My father had been an absolute b to my mother their entire married life, he was so horrible that he did not even visit her once in the care home in the 6 months before she died despite it only being ten minutes from home, but as soon as she'd gone he was of course filled with guilt and remorse for everything he'd done over 65 miserable years.

In the event he died suddenly 4 months later to which my only thought was that he'd be straight back there on my mum's case making her existence hell again like he'd done since the day she stupidly married him, however the night after he died Mum came to me, all smiles & wearing her nurses uniform (the job that kept her sane) and all she said was "Don't worry about him ruining my peace - THEY wouldn't let him in!" I had to laugh because theres him thinking he was going to get forgiven for being such a **** to her and me and in the event he didn't get past the Gatekeeper :)

My great grand mother died the year before I was born. In her final days she was in and out of consciousness and often rambling. She kept repeating ‘its in a box inside a box to keep the damp out’. She had been very poor, her husband who died shortly before her was an alcoholic and she used to hide small amounts of money from him for emergencies and the family thought she must have hidden some savings somewhere but had no idea where. She subsequently died, no money or valuables turned up as the house was cleared and everyone forgot about it. When I was four years old I was playing in the garden at my grandmother’s house one day as my gran pegged out the washing. I was chatting away to myself as kids do when my gran distinctly heard me say ‘it’s in a box inside a box to keep the damp out!’ Weird!

Years ago I lived in an old pub; Random lights would turn on during the night, things would simply vanish from where they'd been left and the heavy brass taps on the washing machine would be turned off when I tried to start the machine, but I had several bar staff who absolutely refused point blank to enter the bottle store in the cellar after "someone" was outside the door banging the handle up and down; You might think it was another member of staff messing about yet seeing as everyone was upstairs at the time it gives it a whole new aspect.

There were so many incidents at that place though that cannot be explained such as the ghostly figure with his face pressed against the window on a snowy night that the decorators thought was their mate playing games with them - until they chased outside to find nothing there, no tracks in the fresh snow or anything. And there was my small son who told me that an old man came into his bedroom at night sometimes and told him stories. Yes it was bizarre! I found out in fact an old man had hanged himself from a rafter in an old outbuilding which might explain some things, however it does not explain why I still have stuff vanishing and reappearing in plain sight days later after I've turned the house upside down looking for said item because I have moved home four times and still I have my old friend with me - even in another country! He is obviously mine because looking back similar stuff was happenning before I left the family home to get married but I'm not bothered nor troubled by him at all :)

For me they've either been solid like a normal person, or solid but slightly see through and always seem very pale/grey.
When I saw my Mum she was as real as the last time I'd seen her before she became really poorly. I sleep badly anyway waking up sometimes every hour through the night but on the night I saw her I woke with a start to see her standing beside my bed in her nurse's uniform with that serene smile on her face. It was surreal but it did come as a reassurance that she was OK and that my 'father' had been sent packing so he would not be ruining her existence there as he'd done to Her Life;

I have BTW only recently been told that my second cousin is a practicing psychic medium so I ought not to be too surprised that I have these spectral 'guests' of my own :)
