This was really intriguing - an old man your sister knew died and then found her in a different part of the country to haunt her?
Yes it sounds weird but its not. He used to be our neighbour back in a place we used to live we moved area him and his partner used to keep in touch from time to time with my parents as they were friends and had been there a long time thats how we knew he had passed and what of etc he was middle age when we lived there and was in his 60s when he passed, but yes he had never been to this area as far as I'm aware of and I'm saying as for the ghost hunter people he wasn't from round here so they wouldn't of known who he was or had any information about him was my point, not really sure why he was meant to be haunting them though

This post has been moved from another thread, upon realising this topic had been duplicated.

I have heard from a friend that she once lived in a house where there was a ghost. She heard a noise upstairs and assumed it was her child. She went to tell her to go back to bed and on the upstairs hall, saw the ghost of an elderly woman. She was mit scared and I think she said she jumped out of the window.

Has anyone heard of ghosts from the last 30 years or so? I find it strange that most ghost accounts are of people dressed in historic clothing, such as Victorian.
A family member lost a friend 9-10 years ago and them and their spouse have seen the friend a few times not long after their death. When I was about 5-6, went to visit my nan's grave a couple of years after she died. I heard her voice very clearly call my name and remember it to this day and how clear it was. There was only my mum and I as I looked around and I remember asking her if she called my name.

I believe most people are very sceptical until something happens to them and I understand why.

A few years ago I moved into a flat with a friend in what was a much larger building which had been divided into three dwellings. Had quite a lot of unexplained activity - tapping noises (which I put down to the heating system) my hairbrush being moved or randomly finding it on the floor. Things started picking up around Christmas when we returned from a drink down the local to find every kitchen door cupboard open and every drawer pulled out: nothing else moved, nothing taken.

I was in the (internal) bathroom one day after my friend had left for work when I heard footsteps coming down the hall and the shadow of them passing by. Called out to my housemate but got no reply so finished up and came out expecting to see him in his bedroom (next to the bathroom). That and the rest of the flat was empty. I was so convinced he’d been in that I called him but he confirmed he was on his way to work.

When I was in alone I’d have a feeling of being watched. The door would often open by itself, but really slowly with the door handle being compressed and the door opening slowly rather than it being blown open. We were 2 flights of stairs up with the front door round a corner on an internal landing so there wasn’t a breeze to cause it anyway.

One night when I was asleep I woke up to the sensation of someone in the room and then I had a feeling of someone pressing down on my chest really hard like I was being winded. I switched the light on and there was nothing there. I was so freaked out I got up and watched TV until it got light. I didn’t tell my flatmate because I knew he was starting to get freaked out by it all.

A few weeks later he stayed in my bed as his parents were visiting and the exact same thing happened to him - he explained the sensation of it being almost identical.

I also had scratches appear on my chest in real time. I was in just a bra brushing my hair in front of the mirror when I noticed 4 scratches start appearing like someone had scratched their nails across it. No pain or sensation at the time, but the area was raised and red.

The final straw was the water tank door opening by itself: to reach this you had to climb on a step ladder and to open it you needed a screwdriver because the handle would come off in your hand if you tried to pull it open. It was very securely shut with a ball bearing closure. We never opened it because we never needed to. It was closed, my flatmate went out to get something he’d forgotten from his bedroom a minute later and it was open. No logical explanation for how that could have happened.

Very glad to leave that flat. Felt very oppressive. Never had any other issues. The upstairs neighbour told us there had been a fire in the building a few years before but we couldn’t find any info on it.

to those people that have seen ghosts with their own eyes, do they look like solid people including loved ones that have passed on?

I often see my Great Grandad who passed when I was 6 - I remember him vividly though. When I lived with my now-ex boyfriend, I’m 100% certain my grandad stood at the living room door: prior to seeing him, I heard footsteps waking down the stairs and then the door opened and he was stood there. It was only me in the house at the time. I’ve moved back home since and I see him in my bedroom at the end of the bed. I think he’s my guardian angel looking over me. I have read about Hat Man (warning: quite scary to look at) and I’ve seen this figure for most of my life. Anyone know anything about Hat Man?

When I was a kid there was a huge billboard on the side of a local shopping centre and for a while the ad on it was for Sandeman Port. I was absolutely and utterly TERRIFIED of the man. The billboard was bad enough, but if I saw the port in the supermarket, it would freak me out Then an ad started on tv and I was hysterical.
I'd never had a reaction like that to anything else.

It was only years later as an adult that I read about Hat Man, and wondered was there something more to my horrific fear of Sandeman.

I shouldn’t have read this thread before bed, I won’t want to switch the light off 😂

I’ve always been afraid of the idea of ghosts but sceptical that they are actually real, if that makes sense.

however back 10 years ago now when I still lived with my parents in my old box room (there was a very narrow walk space between my bed and my wardrobe. It had been my bedroom all my life and I never felt uneasy or had any scary experiences in the bedroom or house before) I definitely had a visitor.
I heard and felt the presence of someone walking down the narrow walk space towards were my head was on the pillow and felt them standing over me. I could hear the breathing also.
I would have opened my eyes and looked to see who it was but I knew the door hadn’t opened so none of family could have walked in.
I just pulled my quilt over my head and wished for it to go away and never had anything else happen since.

My dad was a nurse and when he worked in night shifts in an old hospital back in the 80s early 90s he said there was all sorts of paranormal activity going on. He’d have a nap during his break and be woken up by people tapping him and no one would be there and patients would ask who the nurse was they just saw and describe old fashioned nurse uniform.

my MIL on two occasions has seen a grey WW2 style plane flying down low as though about to land and then it disappears (Lancashire) and when we looked it up there had been other reports of sightings of a ghost plane of similar description that is flying too low and then disappears.

I find it all terribly fascinating and terrifying at the same time 😂 👻

This is so weird because on aprevious post I described the haunted bunkbeds my sister and I had as children and I remember years later we finally pulled them apart in the same room.

We were both chatting on our beds when all of a sudden my arm was stinging and I had scram marks down them. My sister ran calling my mother we were both so shaken and shocked . We were adults by now and were so gobsmacked.

My experience is a bit of a weird one so I'm not sure if it counts - it was a dream, but in it I saw and spoke to my grandad who died when I was about 18 months old. He told me things that when I told my mum the next day about the dream, she went white as a sheet- it was things I could never have known, like a nickname he had for her when she was a child that she had never told anyone, and things that had happened in her childhood she'd never told me. I definitely think he came to visit me in my sleep, there's no other explanation in my eyes.

I find the idea of supernatural experiences in hospitals and old peoples homes comforting, hopefully the spirits comfort the dying and help them move on. ❤

My Dad died suddenly at home when I was a kid. My Cousin said she saw him just standing outside the room he died in years later.

Father in law said he saw a lady walk past our kitchen wearing a blue dressing gown while he was visiting. No idea who she was.

Just before my Maternal Grandmother died of cancer she whispered to my Mum that my Dad was there. I’m not really a believer in an afterlife but I guess it’s kinda comforting to think when you die someone comes to collect you.

I work in a lot of old buildings in London. We have so many ghost stories. I hate working really early and late.

Thank you everyone for your contributions. I have enjoyed reading them. Hope they continue.

Mine isn't very much

I have had a number of dreams that have in some way come true (sort of de ja vous), dreams before the actual event. Not so much over the last few years because of medication that I have been taking (which affect my dreams, which used to be very lucid under normal circumstances).

I clearly recall driving down to England from Scotland when my dad was dying in hospital. I had received a call during the night that he was not going to last long. My dad and I had a difficult relationship - he had sexually abused me throughout my childhood. He had always identified me as his "favourite" to my siblings, causing many issues between me and my siblings. It was not my choice. He was, to be honest, not a very nice man, abusive towards my mother and my siblings as well. But, as anyone in a familial relationship with an abuser knows it is difficult to separate the love of the person from hate of what they have done to you, and when you do others cannot understand. I hated him as an abuser, but he was my father. I had to see him and as the eldest child was left to organise his funeral because my siblings were unable to detach their feelings (unable to accept his behaviours and denying it in some cases, and their youth). I had also just recently lost my daughter (stillborn). My later in life PTSD breakdown is probably explained by some of this (alongside work related issues).
Anyway, during the drive down from Scotland to England, with no warning I suddenly got a strong sense that something had been lifted or taken away - I can't describe it adequately. All I know is that I said to myself that he had passed.
When I arrived at the hospital, the nurses informed me that I had indeed arrived too late and they took me to his bedside. The time of his passing was approximately the time I felt the strange feeling whilst driving down.

Iv never heard of this before. How many times do you think you have seen him? When does he appear to you? Are you scared? Xx

I saw a figure in a hat in my previous house, he was almost as tall as the wall but I wasn’t asleep although it was late at night. That was the last straw for me and I moved within weeks, that house had a horrible vibe from the minute I walked into it but it was perfect otherwise so I had it done up from top to bottom. The strange feelings didn’t go away so I left after 12 months.

When I was newly pregnant I saw a little girl sat on my parents stairs. She was sat watching me and as I looked at her she smiled and turned and ran off up the stairs and vanished. I felt really happy and comforted when I saw her and I just felt like I knew that was my daughter. I dreamt about her too and she looked exactly as she did in my dreams.

I work in a community hospital - nurse led, management of complex long term conditions that couldn't be met at home or in nursing home/palliative care.
The building isn't old in itself as it was rebuilt over an old hospital/sanitarium. One part of the ward used to be where the children's mortuary was and often our patients talk about seeing children there.
All our rooms are single bar 3 double rooms. The double rooms used to be used for respite patients, which we no longer take due to covid etc. Anyway each of those rooms have the most horrendous feeling in them. I don't know if its because they're so dark but there's always a feeling of unease and like you're being watched. Recently one of the patients in one of the rooms asked me if the place was haunted because he could hear the voices - he's normally deaf as a post. There's also a few former patients that make their presence known on the night shift! I've not witnessed it but there's definitely something there
