I've just finished reading the book Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood which was a massive Tattle recommendation.
Although it's a witch tale there was a background story about the world we live in, and the "other side".
I'm useless at explaining things but questions I've read on here pinged into my mind at certain points in the book, including the question "are they still there?" about loved ones who have passed on.

So my mum passed away at new year, a coupe of weeks ago I had a particularly bad day and was weighing up my options, I couldn’t sleep at all that night so just stayed lying in bed. I was facing my door this night and I usually sleep on my other side facing the wall. Anyway about 5am I heard someone walking softly. My door opened and there was my mum, I couldn’t speak or make any kind of sound but I had a million questions going through my mind and all she said was I love you and I miss you and then my door closed again. I woke my husband up and told him and I was explaining how mum looked, she had a nightie on that I remember from my childhood so she hasn’t owned it for 15years plus, she looked like mum just a normal person although a little pale. But she had no legs. I know people will think it was a dream but honest to god I was awake. She’s never been back since no matter how much I’ve asked x

I remember being told that after they have died they can be around people for a while and then they can't in the same way. I've had quite a few people report sightings not long after the person died.

I’ve always since a child had a thing about buying from charity shops/second hand bc I’ve always been scared I’ll bring something home with me like the knowledge someone else has used the object and it’s absorbed a strangers vibe is weird to me

This is something I’ve always thought about after someone I know took a jewellery box to another charity store after buying it second hand and it kept playing the tune even when it was closed was probably just faulty but it had to go.

I put something from You Tube on to listen to whilst I got ready today.
It turned out to be a medium being interviewed. She had been kidnapped at some point in her life and has been helping the Police since childhood find missing children.
She was asked to find a grown up missing child which she eventually agreed to do. This somehow led on to her finding out how Jon Benet Ramsey died - she was killed by her mother as Jon Benet had a scrap with her brother over something of his, and her mother panicked and thought the brother had killed her.
In order to protect her son the mother strangled what she thought was her dead daughter, but she was actually still alive. So the mother inadvertently murdered her daughter and wrote a fake kidnap letter to protect her son from being arrested.
The family had to live with what they had done. Jon Benet didn't want them to be punished as she said they did it out of love for the son.
I was a bit late leaving the house as I was so gobsmacked.

So I’ve been on the ghost tour in the Vaults too but didn’t feel any of that, to the point I stood in the stone circle that had some sort of premise about witchcraft I’m sure. It only felt creepy because of the stories being told, or maybe I’m just not in tune with that kind of thing.

Enjoy Uncanny! I went a week ago and loved it. Danny is super engaging, Kieran comes across really well too it was more Evelyn was like she was in a bad mood but still brilliant nonetheless. Just hope your audience stories aren’t as bad as mine were!

Ive stood in the stone circle too and felt absolutely nothing ive done the vaults a few times and one person had to leave once because they were so terrified. I think it depends who does the tour. The last one I did we stood in dark room with no light for a minute and I was terrified

Has anyone done any kind of paranormal event, ghost walk etc in York? I watched Charlie and Daisy May Cooper's show last night filmed in York and I was there recently but didn't actually realise it had such a reputation for the paranormal. I'd love to go back and do an organised tour or something.

I was reading stories about ouija boards a few days ago. If anyone has done one, what made you do it? Did anything happen?

I would avoid them. You are only inviting the spirit world into your life and good spirits are harmless, but nobody wants to be plagued by a nasty one.

As a kid, we did makeshift ouija boards using a piece of paper and a glass. But there was always someone who would deliberately move the glass and feign innocence. Thankfully I got that trend out of my system.

They’re quite sensitive souls these spookies aren’t they? Yours being upset because you’d done something to the garden and my friend’s being apologetic that he’d made a loud crash and my friend had had to investigate did you and your spookies come to an agreement about your garden? I always worry about making changes to an older house in case I upset the ghosties - but our house now is an old barn conversion so I’m hoping the ghosts here are only of cattle so won’t do anything too much

It was all a long time ago and I've probably mentioned it before on here, but I do remember being a bit scared of what they said about one of the spookies - a man with a flat cap in my lounge . They said that he thought I was haunting him, and he would be very interested in any young children I had.
Being as how the other spooky is a small child who follows me around, and was the one that climbed on me in bed during the night, and was "warm," whilst the man in the lounge is icy cold - I was a bit concerned for the poor kid. However, the medium said the man can't get upstairs. I expect the child probably stays upstairs.
I haven't had any spooky goings on from them for over 20 years since my health problem was sorted and my heart calmed down. So I'm not really sure if they're still there.

To answer your question theres been no trouble despite my building an extension and changing the garden again, so if they're still there they probably approve.
I do get spirits in the extension but I think it's a relative. She is "warm" too and bumps into my aura so that's how I know she's there. Usually having a nosy at who's visiting.
Knowing her she'll have probably "sorted out" the spook in the lounge. She's very motherly so the little boy would like that.

The official flower of the Alzheimer's soc is forget me nots. Since he died, I'm seeing forget me nots everywhere.
We have a small wildflower patch on our back garden and we've just put a few things in there to remind my boyfriend of his dad. Yesterday, I noticed some beautiful white forget me nots in the wildflower patch that have literally just bloomed. We've never had them flower there before, ever.
We've never had forget me nots in the garden before, this year was going to be the first year we planted them and none of the seed packets I have contained forget me nots as I checked.
I'm so aware it could be a massive coincidence but I really hope it isn't.

It’s a sign. Forget-me-Nots are a delightful spring flower and I grow hundreds in my garden each year. They are setting seed round about now onwards, so collect the seed and scatter some more. They germinate easily and next year you will have lots more.

Iv been listening to the Uncanny Podcasts on BBC sounds in the evenings! They are so good, I only ever watched the TV series but there's something about listening to Ghost stories 🤎🫶

I lost my Dad a few years back. I’ll hurt forever and it still seems like yesterday when he was here.
We’d never had forget me nots in our garden in all the years we’ve lived here.
Until the spring after he passed. They popped up in all of the borders out of nowhere. And we’ve had them every year since.
I definitely take it as a sign

Posting in this thread has made me realise just how many odd experience I’ve had in my life! Less now but in that period between about 16-24 I had so many!

In the old house where I saw the woman in the blue dress, I also heard children giggling on more than one occasion. Didn’t ever creep me out, was just weird. I could usually hear it in the utility/boiler room which was next to the kitchen but could only be accessed via an old covered passageway out to the garden and in between the kitchen and the extension. I remember telling Dad once and he said maybe I’d heard the kids next door playing but it was about 10pm, and I could see he didn’t even believe his own rationalisation

In my second year uni house I had some weird experiences too. I heard knocking on the wall which I tried to rationalise as the neighbours but it was late at night so couldn’t have been them. In the same spot on the wall I had a kids’ fairy outfit someone got me as a joke which had this little battery wand that made a tinkling noise when you hit or moved it. It started randomly doing that after the knocking on the wall which was a bit weird. It could just have been the batteries were going but it just seemed strange that it happened when the knocking did!

I think that’s all my “ghost” experiences, though I still have my weird glitch in the matrix thing that happened last summer and something downright creepy I saw up on the moors with my
Dad in October. I also found a post I made years ago on a paranormal site about the pub ghost - the lore was that she was called Alice glad I’ve remembered!

ETA: on a roll with my paranormal stories! This isn’t my story but one I’ve just remembered from an old colleague. I had several jobs as a sixth form student and in the uni holidays, and one of them was working at a National Trust property. Not my experience but one that happened to a colleague whilst I was working there.

We had, coming off the main corridor area behind the tea rooms where I worked, some storage areas. One of them was almost directly opposite the door to the servery and that’s where we kept veg on those metal veg storage racks. It was dark in there because it was down some little steps and sort of built into the wall but my colleague heard a crash down there and went to investigate. He couldn’t find anything but absolutely swore when he went down he’d seen a young man with a flat cap, waistcoat and shirt sleeves with the sleeves rolled up look at him apologetically (I assume because he made the crash!) and then just vanish. Never saw him myself and never once had a weird experience there but always loved that story! Makes me smile the idea of a ghost apologising for drawing attention to himself

I have thought of talking out loud and asking for a sign but if I did and something happened id probably shit myself

I did this recently and unfortunately nothing happened

I told a relative about this and a while later he told me that he was getting really stressed about the lack of sales in his business and he spoke to thin air asking for help, shortly after sales were pinging in on his computer.
He's the one I might have mentioned on here possibly , where I sent him to see a psychic - she mentioned his gran in spirit had stood behind his chair while he was on the computer one day, and how he'd been looking at something he'd never looked at before - then said it was the Tudors.
He's been a bit of a believer since then so has divulged other strange happenings to me, that he wouldn't tell anyone else. Like the hug he got from someone who had just passed in a hospital miles away and the orbs he saw at the same time.

I love that you have this sort of understanding with your spookies, I don’t like the sound of that man but at least he can’t get upstairs so the little boy is safe from him. I’ve never tried to properly communicate with any of the ones I’ve experienced apart from acknowledging Alice the pub ghost in an attempt to get her to stop making it sound like plates were breaking!

I don't know if some people are more suggestable and see paranormal reasons when there aren't at all - or genuinely seem to attract odd happenings because they have open minds?
Its quite fascinating really.
I just know I avoid ghosty, horror, paranormal stuff if I can though I find it very interesting.

People are suppose to be more susceptible to attracting spirits and the like when they are vulnerable ie grieving.

I think I have an open mind in regards to this stuff and watch all sorts of films, programmes, books but tbh I've not really experienced anything major over the years.

My husbands father died when dh was 17 and ever since he will get a whiff of Old Spice that his dad used to wear, he told me about it and a few weeks after he moved in with me, I smelt this odd smell in the flat at the same time as he did

"Oh thats just my dad come to visit" I was like but its happened a couple time since

Another peculiarity I have in my flat is that I sometimes see a Tall Man hovering in the bedroom doorway, but only at night time, usually wearing a long black coat and a walking cane, never see his face though, hubby says he's seen it but describes it as a shadow man

I think it comes from my mum being a kid and trying the ouija board with her mates. She don’t ever tell me the full story I think because it shat her up so much.
She did say that when they ‘played’ it a pair of heavy floor length velvet curtains opened and lifted up.
she never divulged anything else. She was genuinely too scared.
I knew never to ask her about it and I have the fear in me to never ever play with that shit
