They named two passed relatives, not by their proper first name but by the shortened version (for example Bill instead of William). None of the 'I'm getting someone with the initial W', just straight out said the names.

They said that relative 1 was extremely hostile towards relative 2 because they now knew what they had done to me (relative 2 had abused me and I'd never told relative 1. In fact only my partner knew). When relative 2 'came through', it was terrifying. The whole atmosphere went dark and moody. This person was truly evil in real life. It scared me a lot, how everything became darker and more intensified. Never experienced anything like that before and never have since. Relative 2 wanted me to know they were sorry for what they'd done, they were not a well person and they should have looked after me properly 🫤

They knew about a miscarriage I'd had and that it had been a girl (which I'd always known deep down, as I used to dream of holding a baby girl).

They said "someone wants me to tell you - two people on the same day". I had no idea what they were on about, until I twigged - my uncle and my cousin share the same birthday, and it was that actual day of the reading.

I had told this person nothing, not my name, where I lived, nothing. During the reading itself, I was giving my best poker face and not reacting to try and catch them out. It unnerved me how they knew so much. They were also saying other names to me, and were insistent that these people knew me, but I genuinely didn't recognise the names. Afterwards I scared myself wondering if they were random spirits who were trying to use me or latch on to me. It was all a bit of a weird confusing fever dream to be honest, and I don't want to believe it was real. I'm not totally convinced there's an afterlife but after that I just don't know.
Woah 😬
That sounds a lot.
I 100% believe there are paranormal things going on. And I think I'm quite receptive but don't want to be so don't entertain things that might encourage it. It's not that I find it scary but that I could become a bit obsessed and wierd 😂
I'm glad this thread is here. Helps to express what I can't to people around me. Your mind becoming a sort of portal if you open it up. Sounds utterly barmy I know but I think the veil between here and 'other' might be quite thin for some people.

Just discovered these threads - I love reading and sharing true ghost stories and look forward to reading all of your experiences ❤

In the meantime though I have two to share. Here is the first.

When I was a very little kid I had a great aunt, we'll call her Angie as that is the anglicised version of her real name (too long to keep typing out). My mum took me to Angie's house every other Saturday so my mum could clean the house, make her food and help Angie out. Angie frightened me - she was very old, extremely fat (only partly mobile, always sat on the sofa) and her house was very dark, old-fashioned and smelled bad. Most frightening of all was Angie herself, because her eyes were always fastened on me. Wherever I was in the room, no matter what I was doing, whether my mum was talking to her or not - Angie's gaze would follow me silently around the room. I can see her gaze right now in my mind's eye, nearly 60 years later. Her eyes looked...hungry, when she looked at me. It frightened me badly.

When I was 8, Angie died and my mum, my aunts, my cousins and me went to her house to box up all her stuff. My cousin and I were going through one box and I pulled out a yellow knitted toy. It was weird...hand knitted, stuffed and looked like some kind of bird/lizardy thing. I didn't like it, and it smelled bad, but my cousin was egging me on to nick it and given that my cousin was 10 and therefore a goddess in my eight year old eyes, I did so. But the toy for some reason made me feel uneasy, so when we got home I shoved it under my bed so that it would be out of sight.

(Important fact: In my culture we believe that for the first 40 days after a person has died, their soul is still very close to earth and may visit relatives and loved ones with whom the person had unfinished business.)

So that night, I woke up in the night. I was definitely awake and not dreaming. I turned round in bed and saw Angie walking towards me, smiling lovingly. She was grey, translucent and her face was lit up with joy as she walked towards me across my room, her hands held out as if to hug me. I had never seen her walking or smiling in life.

I was terrified and pulled the blankets over my head and cowered. Eventually I went back to sleep.

When I was much older I learned that Angie had a tragic life. All she ever wanted was children, but she had 8 miscarriages. The last one was so late and so bad that the doctors told her any further attempts to get pregnant could kill her. Her husband left her, blaming her for her infertility (patriarchal stupid culture) and she sank into agoraphobia and binge eating disorder. But she was haunted by her love for, and desperation for, children because she could never had one of her own.

I also learned that every time she got pregnant, Angie would excitedly knit a woollen yellow bird for her baby's first toy. She'd kept canaries as a child in our home country and was excited to share the beauty of those birds with her baby. But she never had a baby, and the woollen yellow canaries were carefully stored away but never used.

I believe that what I saw that night was the ghost of my aunt before her soul was finally translated, and that she was happy to see that a child (me) finally had one of the woollen canaries she had so lovingly created.
This is such a sad story but also so beautiful. I think you're right and I hope she found peace knowing one of the canaries was with a child.
I really hope she's found happiness in her next life

My best friend died 20 years ago. I vividly remember two visitation dreams I had. I’ll never forget them. Very different from a normal dream or a lucid dream.
he’s not visited me since and these dreams happened within the year of him passing.

he was a kind soul, if a little complicated.
This was prior to social media but about 15 years ago I went to a psychic and towards the end of the reading she said my friend was here and said his name!!! She described him and his death and said he counselled young people and kids who have passed over. This has always stayed with me because this was my friend to a t.
I know a lot of people will scoff at this all but i know in my heart this was him and the psychic was bang on

There are lot of charlatans out there and I've been to a few were I have literally laughed at what they were saying. However, when I was 24 I was doing some travelling and I was in Thailand and I suppose the guy I saw was a psychic of some sort. He was an old guy with an interpreter. He eventually said that I had been ill and had had a big problem with my heart. When I was 21 I had had major heart surgery. There was no visible scarring for him to pick up on and that freaked me out a bit because that's something unusual to pick up on on a 24 year old. He also came out with a couple of other things that were true as well. I felt a bit unnerved after I'd seen him.

He also said I was going to come into a lot of money unexpectedly, like a win. I'm still waiting for that one. :ROFLMAO:

I was reading stories about ouija boards a few days ago. If anyone has done one, what made you do it? Did anything happen?
I’m too scared to ever do one just in case 😅
I haven't personally, but my dad did in the 70s and apparently he started speaking in a voice that wasn't his own and predicted an accident...

Not my story, my mum‘s: her dad died when she was only 15. The night he died (he was in hospital), she suddenly woke up and saw a light in her bedroom. Like sort of floating in the air. She said she also smelled lavender. She’s convinced it was her dad who came to say goodbye.

Me, I recently had a dream in which my aunt, who passed away rather unexpectedly, gave me a long hug and then walked away. I had struggled with her passing, couldn't even drive past the town she lived in without bursting into tears. I always felt it was unfair that she had to pass as she hadn’t been poorly. I think she came to me in my dream to let me know she was ok and that I needed to accept what happened. We always suspected she had willed herself to die as her husband had passed about a year before herself and that dream kind of confirms that for me.

Oh wow. That is so beautiful. I'm definitely taking it as a sign.
I didn't know they could even be white so it is not something we would choose to plant. The only ones we have planted this spring are the deep blue ones.

On a side note, grief is so horrible. I hope you are doing ok. Life is so unfair sometimes
Thank you. Hope you’re doing ok too.

Not a ghost story as such but I’m really freaked this morning. The alarm on my phone went off at 05:50 (I freaked out further when I realised it’s the 5th of the 5th!)
I didn’t set it - the ring tone was the default alarm one and not the one I usually use. Plus I checked my alarms and there wasn’t one set for that time.
Don’t laugh but I’m jittery at the moment and I’m scared it’s a bad sign 😂
Would love to think it’s a message from a loved one but I can’t make those numbers fit with anyone.
So weird!

Another thing this (recent) medium mentioned to me was she said I was psychic, that I had the gift. She said I should hone it and go to spiritual classes. Something tells me that she realised I had a poker face throughout and that she wasn’t getting anywhere with me so she either thought that she could butter me up at the end of the session, or she thinks I would make a great medium bullshitting all and sundry as my face would not give the game away. 😂😉

Either way I was less than impressed.

But, I am very intuitive and sensitive to my surroundings and people. So she could have picked up on that.

I do feel sorry for vulnerable people who cling onto the hope of hearing from their loved ones. I find that the whole mediumship business is a sickening one, there are far too many charlatans outweighing the brilliant ones.

Okay so I think I’ve asked this before BUT..
Does anyone think if you listen to podcasts about true ghost stories and read into them a lot etc that it can attract that kind of stuff?
Yes. Funnily enough, I recently had a chat with someone who works in a building reputed to be haunted. Lots of different paranormal shenanigans taking place, felt and seen by all staff. She didn't really want to talk her experiences much because she 'didn't want anything coming home with her '. Her parent had recently passed, and something odd happened at her home. And she wasn't sure if it was her parent or something had come home with her. But she was very wary of even talking about the building or the goings-on. Just kept saying "I don't want anything coming home with me". And I hadn't thought much more about it until I saw your comment.

I did listen to an Uncanny podcast once where a child spirit apparently went home with a family after they'd holidayed somewhere

I’ve always since a child had a thing about buying from charity shops/second hand bc I’ve always been scared I’ll bring something home with me 😬 like the knowledge someone else has used the object and it’s absorbed a strangers vibe is weird to me

I remember reading something a psychic said. She somehow got involved with the case of a girl. I think everyone thought the young girl had gone mad. Turned out she was actually psychic and couldn't control her gift, so was frightened to death of what she was experiencing in her head.
The girl had gone to hospital for an appointment and had picked up the residual energy of all the trauma that had been there.
I've been told of psychologists/psychiatrists having the gift themselves. Maybe it was that and one of them was around and knew what was happening with the girl. She was making a lot of noise, she was so frightened, so probably drew a lot of people's attention.
What I'm trying to say is maybe that's what we're picking up in these places - the residual energy - and they're not all haunted. 🤔

Has anyone here ever been to a place that was either reputed to be haunted or where they felt a presence? I have a few:

1. The Edinburgh Vaults, they run ghost tours round there. There's a horrible oppressive hostile atmosphere in some of the vaults. In one we went into, the guide explained that a black magic society was found to be operating there in secret in the 1910s and using that particular vault. It was by far and away the worse room I've ever been in in my life. Much colder than all the others, to the extent that we could see our breath (which we hadn't in any of the other places) and just this sense of pure evil, like there was something in there that really didn't want you in there and wanted to do you harm. The whole group felt it, we were in there about 5 seconds and then some weird energy shift happened and we all just stampeded for the doorway.
2. Bridgend in South Wales, where the suicide cluster happened. I visited it years before that awful series of events but there was just a 'dark energy' about the place. Not actively malevolent like the Edinburgh Vaults but just sort of like heavy, oppressive, depressive.
3. Dachau. There's such a sad, empty energy there. Oddly enough, I didn't sense that at Auschwitz. Auschwitz actually, for me, it had a sort of cold quiet dignity about it. But Dachau felt....grim.

I don't know whether I'm sensitive to energies in places or whether everyone can sense it and would be keen to hear others' experiences.

I'm a keen amateur student of history and very much wish to visit some of the major WW1 battlefield sites in France and Belgium one day. There's a number of community forums where visitors recount seeing ghosts, spirits, or just the terrible energy especially Verdun, Ypres and the Argonne are mentioned. All those young lives so violently and unjustly ripped away, under the soil. They're probably angry, and I wouldn't blame them.
I felt exactly the same in the same Edinburgh vaults when I went last year. I couldn’t wait to escape back up and I usually love anything supernatural. Like you said it just felt very cold and menacing. Really oppressive energy.

I’m going to see uncanny live on Friday and looking forward to that.

My gran was grabbed in the street by a woman urging her to get home asap as her child was seriously ill. Turned out that the woman was a psychic....

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of ghost experiences are actually some kind of residual energy, recorded and replaying in a certain location in certain conditions!
I mentioned about this before where I finally got an explanation for something I saw. Was told it was an "imprint". So the hands I saw going into my bag in the hall were actually someone going into a cupboard that used to be there. It was explained as think of how many times you open a certain door in your life - that leaves energy, and one day someone might see you opening a door many years later, but the door is no longer there.
Maybe imprint is another word for residual energy. 🤔

i do too. i’ve read too much about people who have suffered near death experiences and clearly remember seeing family members who have passed. and numerous stories from people working in hospices/end of life care who say patients start saying they can see loved ones in their room with them in the final days. i believe it and also really want it to be true 💙
I was watching an interview with a hospice nurse who had been frightened by death until she worked in a hospice and saw a lot of beautiful things.
I think it was her that said that your loved ones on the other side make your surroundings familiar so you feel at home straight away. It could have been the bloke interviewing her though.
Sounded like a nice thing to do.
I have chatted to palliative care nurses in hospital and they freely tell you about their experiences without batting an eyelid, as it's so normal to them.

Has anyone done any kind of paranormal event, ghost walk etc in York? I watched Charlie and Daisy May Cooper's show last night filmed in York and I was there recently but didn't actually realise it had such a reputation for the paranormal. I'd love to go back and do an organised tour or something.
One of my favourite stories ever comes from there about the timeslip in the 70’s I think? If you haven’t read it I certainly suggest it. York is genuinely one of the most creepy cities at night I’ve been in, I don’t live far from there so always travel home rather than stay over. Dungeons are great too! Golden Fleece is the most haunted pub apparently…there are so many stories but the timeslip is easily the best.

I saw a shadow moving up an aisle in work the other night and someone independently told me they have seen it today as well. Thousands of people have worked there over the years so odds are someone's died there. It wasn't a negative energy though.

In the past few weeks I’ve noticed a few odd signs and coincidences. I’ve been particularly down and anxious about a few things, so I know my defences are down and others will say they are all explainable; It’s just me wanting them to be more.
But last night I was lying in bed before OH came up, and it honestly felt as though someone lightly touched my back a couple of times.
I’d heard OH go into the bathroom so I knew it wasn’t him getting into bed.
It was the lightest touch, so, again, it could be explained away I suppose, but it definitely felt like someone touching me.

One of my cats died in 2021 and every now and then I see him appear, it's just a floating head but my other cat always sees him as well, he stares intensely in to a fixed spot and then I see him

No other cat I owned has done that but I think it's because he went into vets for urgent exploratory op and the vet said he was in heart failure, it was still covid times and we wasn't allowed in with him when he was pts, no idea if it's related 🤷‍♀️
