Have you seen the insidious movies? I would not want to do astral projection after watching those 😂
Would like to read it about it though as sound interesting
I haven't but I will look for them now. Must be still stupid despite not being young. I kept renewing the book from the library until they wouldn't let me anymore, someone else wanted it. It was missing for weeks but once it was back on the shelf I booked it out again. I did try to buy a copy but there wasn't the internet then, just normal bookshops. That might be my mission for the day now though. Look for the movies, a copy of the book and have a good scare.

Tbh I wouldn't go near astral projection. I read lots about it in the 90s but now the thought of it frightens the 💩💩 out of me!!

The sleep paralysis that people speak of. Is the vision of the woman a ghost/ entity? I don't really understand it. It sounds absolutely terrifying though.

I’ve had that feeling when I’m trying to wake up out of a bad dream and I’m in my room but the dream is still there. I’ll feel pinned to my bed. It’s not nice but I’ll eventually properly wake up. I think that’s a form of sleep paralysis.

For the two times I've had it, it was like a black misty shadowy humanoid shape figure standing to the right of my bed, looming down, reaching out a hand. I think i perceived them to be a man. Woke up both times before the figure advanced closer. I think both times I was ill and had overslept, so I think i was coming out of disordered sleep or something. I felt like i was paralysed, I couldn't move my arms or legs. No idea if it's a paranormal thing or a brain imagination thing but scary nonetheless because it feels so real.

I've looked on a few websites this morning. I can't remember, I presumed that once I saw either the cover or the name of the authors I would know it.

My sleep paralysis is always trying to wake up but failing while a 'being' climbs on my back and holds onto me, wrapping its arms and legs around me. It happened once in hospital, I woke up the woman in the next bed with noises. She thought I was having a nightmare but she'd just had a gall bladder op and couldn't get out of bed to wake me up.

Omg. This is terrible! How scary. I can't imagine it or how you must feel. I wonder if there is any explanation for it?

It's a real thing. It even has a page on the NHS website.

Agree with this, when my grandad was in intensive care, the part of the hospital he was in (if anyone here is Irish they may know the mater hospital in dublin) he was having a rest & I says I’m gonna just have a walk & I was walking to the chapel the chapel went down very very old winding stone steps. I got about halfway down & felt like something was saying NO. You’re not coming any further. I stopped & everything went freezing around me looked to my left & there was a statue of the Virgin Mary & I just thought no.. something clearly doesn’t want me going here so I walked back to the ward & never went ANYWHERE again in that hospital 😂

This isn't scary but it is funny ...

Years ago when I was a teenager I was visiting an old Catholic church I was unfamiliar with and having a look around when I saw a small entrance to something. I popped in only to suddenly see a massive statue of the Virgin Mary looking directly at me. Absolutely scared the mit out of me. I literally screamed. 🤣 🤣

I think we have something in our house. We moved in a few months ago. I don’t feel unsettled, but a couple of things have happened, loud bangs, my MIL saw something, my 6yo told me he was watching tv in my room(where I hear noises) and he put the controls on one side. Went to change the channel and they had moved to the other side. He has been watching scary stuff on tv, so could just be his imagination. He won’t go upstairs now on his own 🙄 my 3 yo woke up screaming this morning, and he pointed to the door and said ‘nanny’ and was so upset. He also keeps waking up and is wetting the bed quite a bit. I’m hoping these are just nightmares he is having and nothing watching them while they sleep! We also have a noise machine for the baby that, if anyone makes a noise will turn on. I have heard it turn on or be on when everyone else is downstairs 😬

there was a programme on TV few years back about sleep problems. Sleep paralysis was one of the segments. The women they spoke too had experienced it several times a week for years , Where a witch slowly crept into her room and then climbed on top of her and begins to strangle her. It sounded terrifying but weirdly people all over the world reported seeing the same witch when experiencing sleep paralysis

Not paranormal but when I have sleep paralysis, it’s ‘the hag’ I see, right up in my face and screaming at me. My friend has the man in the hat slowly creeping round her door and inching over to her and climbing on the bed.
I also have ‘exploding head syndrome’ which I read about very often on spooky threads because it’s mistaken for being paranormal. For me it’s usually loud knocking at the front door, or people I know shouting my name.

I have experienced sleep paralysis quite a lot, but luckily not for a while (prob jinxed myself here!)
The most vivid one to me was when I was about 8 months pregnant. My husband was away for the night and it was just me in bed.
I couldn’t move but felt that I was experiencing my whole body being thrown from the wall to the wardrobe over and over again. When I was able to move, I was terrified and went downstairs and just watched Netflix all night.
Had a shower in the morning and noticed 2 big bruises on my thigh. I am clumsy, but I don’t recall hurting my leg or banging into anything, so that really spooked me!
We moved our bedroom into my brother in laws room as he had just moved out and then moved out of the flat not long after our baby was born.
It was so horrible….like I could see myself being thrown around but I couldn’t move but also feeling that I was being thrown! Just the weirdest thing that’s ever happened during sleep paralysis episodes for me!

I experienced the worst sleep paralysis I’ve ever just after I had 1st baby and my mum died not long after. It was one evening after I’d had a particularly stressy newborn sort of day, and I just kept waking up in my dream in my room and something horrible was always there, my husband was dead, baby was dead, room was on fire etc etc it was like inception! Every time I woke up I was still asleep, I felt like it was in there for literally years of my life. I woke up sobbing and screaming and I refused to sleep for days after that 😂 honestly I’m still traumatised.

I guess it was just a toxic combination of extreme stress/grief/sleep deprivation and I also had a really nasty virus at the time too.

I had a bit of a misspent youth, and I used to have sleep paralysis after I’d taken ecstasy. I’d be lying in bed on my back, but I’d be being strangled by myself. Two versions of me in one dream. I knew I was dreaming so I’m order to wake myself up I needed to make a noise but the only thing I could muster would be a little grunt. I used to wake my other half up grunting!

I’ve had sleep paralysis twice. First time was not long after my first son was born. My husband had left for work and my son was sleeping in the crook of my right arm, in the bed and I must have dropped off too. Next thing I knew I was wide awake but couldn’t move any part of my body (bar my eyes) and couldn’t speak! I was absolutely petrified and worried about my son as I could hear him waking up, I then realised there was a figure standing by the left handside side of my bed! I could just see a shadowy figure and felt it was a man, I thought it might be my father in law who had died before my son had been born and had come to visit to see his new grandson. Calmed by this thought I closed my eyes and must have fallen back to sleep and dreamt of flying around my lounge with father in law and baby son. Woke up convinced that said father in law had visited me. My son was still fast asleep beside me.
My second sleep paralysis episode wasn’t so nice and happened many years later, in a different house/bed. I ‘woke’ not being able to move or speak, I desperately tried to shout out to my husband who was laying beside me so he could help me but nothing happened, no sound came out and yet again I couldn’t move. It was then I became aware of the shadowy figure to my left hand, but felt a sense of relief when the ‘feeling’ it was Nan who had died 20 yrs earlier had come to visit me. In my minds eye, I could see a young version of my Nan, happy and glowing but then, such a strong feeling of utter evilness and malevolence crept over me, like treacle soaking into every part of my body, it was so scary, I could still see my lovely Nan in my head, but the figure beside my bed wasn’t my Nan, it was almost demon like and it felt like it was trying to invade my every part with its coldness and evilness and had used my Nan to come through. In a panic I shut my eyes and envisioned a doorway in my mind, with a huge exit sign over it and repeatedly asked whatever it was stood by my bed to leave me alone and go through the door. It did eventually but not before touching me on the chest with what felt like the iciest cold finger I’d ever felt.
I must admit that ever since I’ve had a cross pendant pinned to my headboard (even though I’m not religious in the slightest- don’t ask!) and I’ve never (touch wood) been visited again.

Mine's a black shape, person like and it swoops over me. First off I get the feeling that someone has broken in and that I'm stuck to the bed, trying to react. Then the figure comes into the room and and moves around but I'm still paralysed. I try to speak but I'm hugely slurry and can't lift myself. It's bloody awful but like others have said, if I catch it early enough I can breath and think my way through it and at least shorten the episode

I’ve moved out of my house few mths ago (after a few strange things happened there) but had yet another strange experience the other night, lying in bed watching tv, I live in a flat, share with someone else, they were out, my bedroom is on the first floor & at the back, I heard what I thought was a stone/coin hitting my bedroom door, stayed in bed (bedroom door was locked luckily) turned the light off not long after, asked whoever it was to give me a sign they are there, then I heard a clock ticking, no clock in my room or the flat for that matter, whoever/whatever it is seems to have followed me from my previous home? I did ask my friend whether they had come home but they hadn’t.
