Same here, but I wouldn't have been so brutal about it. I had a feeling that there was a personal undercurrent there, but I don't know what it could have been.

I'm surprised that "I'm not a hugger, so no matter how well/ badly we do, please don't hug me" didn't come up when they were introduced to each other. Or perhaps it did, and it was made clear, and the line was crossed and that's what caused the open snub?

The whole show seemed very contrived and . . . just off, to me.

It's the fact that he is lauded to the point that one would be forgiven for thinking that he invented the craft of knitting.
#notafan and definitely won't be watching the programme.

I felt the same about it feeling contrived! Actually despite the bizarre outfit, Tom Daley wasnt too bad as a presenter.

But I agree with Holger, using such thick yarn and huge knitting needles, isnt exactly normal knitting! I like the idea of using such needles, but have found them almost impossible to hold and manipulate when I tried! they are much heavier and unwieldy. Its a slightly different skill I feel to everyday knitting! And wasnt one of the knitters in a muddle at the end, because he tried to cut the large yarn for armholes, when as the judge said, this technique works better on a smaller thread!

And as someone who likes crochet, but not knitting as much, they arent the same!

I was wondering how on earth they were going to make something so labour intensive and time consuming as knitting into a competitive show... and I dont think they have quite managed it!

I haven't watched the show yet, but from reviews it reminds me of why I went off watching Bake Off.

When Bake Off fiest started contestants were asked to make complicated things, but there was no bizarre novelty bakes. Now they have added in challenges like ' make a cake that looks like a celebrity' or ' make a cake that looks like a theatre with moving parts'. Things that look impressive on an Instagram post, but no one would ever really cook and eat in the real world.

Instead of testing genuine skill, they end up testing who can make a weird novelty item whilst under pressure. It makes for great entertainment, but it isn't really an accurate picture of what that hobby normally entails.

It sounds like this show is just doing the same but with wool, asking people to rush through making weird things in very heavy yarns to test.... presumably who has the best upper body strength from having to use really heavy needles.

As if it wasn't bad enough knitting using massive chunky wool and needles, being around LOOK AT ME Tom Daley, the sofas they were sat on to knit didn't look comfortable either. A nice array of big armchairs would've been better, at least if I had been there. I take a few years to knit a single jumper or cardigan, so I'd be useless on this show.

Someone on Reddit linked to this knitting programme - it's old, but the format seems to me (I've only watched this one episode) much more attractive and much fairer to the competitors.

Well.....perhaps it because I was dreading it...and assuming he would be absolutely awful....... and instead he wasnt too bad, just relatively bland, and I could blot his presence out!!!

I found the judges more irritating......

The judges were completely lacking in TV charisma. Surely when they're putting someone on TV for the first time they give them a bit of instruction on how to behave in front of cameras. and have them do a few practise runs to get used to it?

I haven't watched it and intend not to, but I can see there are some reviews of it on the knitting corner of Youtube so I may watch those tomorrow when I have my lazy morning.
