I'd be really surprised if he wasn't at the LA Olympics, his current 'home' Olympics. He seems in good form right now and like he'd have another four years in him (I know that isn't always the case with 'aging' athletes).
He seemed to come into the process quite late for this one so it's not as though it's taken up four years of his life preparing.
Presumably he wants to do some kind of commentary/punditry for LA but as others say it sounds like both his kids would want to see him dive if he's still competitive.
I wondered if he just wants to chill and live the LA life with Lance (who must be loaded), his mum, the kids and do influencer-y things. But that doesn't seem to be enough and he seems to miss the spotlight/UK fans.

Deliberately did it to make a big scene and announcement.
I have no doubt he will 'heroically' come out of retirement for LA thanks to something his kid says that makes a nice PR headline

Heaven help us! He has enrolled in The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA.

So Tom's PR released that he was retiring as Team GB were on the Eurostar home so basically the BBC would swarm St Pancras to talk to him ignoring everyone else in the team?

I'm imagining that the GB diving team would be relieved that he is going back to Lala Land and not competing anymore, given how much attention has been on him for most of diving element with them cutting to him knitting in the stands and banging on about his family.
At the 10m individual finals, the camera cut to Tom Daley knitting, and I know for a fact that Jack Laugher and the other GB guys were sat in the row behind, so there was no reason the camera couldn't have had them all in shot.
Hands up who thinks in 4 years the story will be “my kids begged Daddy to do one more Olympics and I just couldn’t let them down!” 
Now all the focus will just be on Fred Sireux’s daughter so they still won’t quite equal billing.

Vamp is just so unattractive to me, the smug look and the endless chin … it’s not solely the age difference, I just fine him creepy. The mum in me just wants to go in and save Tom; but it’s all so complicated now there are kids involved.
Vampire Lance has probably bought Tom's place on fashion course. He will do that and then when it likely fails, or he finds it too hard, it will be on to the next thing.
