There is nothing wrong with surrogacy if done correctly through agencies. One of my lovely friends has been a surrogate for two people now, there is nothing weird or seedy about it. She’s done having kids of her own & she wanted to help others. She’s good friends with those she had a baby for. They used an egg donor so she has no relation to the babies. I’d love to do it but I had 2 HG pregnancies & never again! I am a registered egg donor though as I’d love to help a couple become a family. Gay, straight, I don’t care. I’d just love to give a couple a baby who have struggled or physically can’t.

Each to their own. I feel it commodifies women’s bodies reduces them to a ‘womb for rent’ ,is inherently risky to women and will affect women who are socioeconomically vulnerable. It’s rarely altruistic and seems to prioritise the ‘right’ of gay men to have children and essentially creates an industry of human beings for sale.

Tom is still being quoted about the unfairness of men not being allowed to take part in women’s elite athletics in the light of the announcement yesterday,
I don't understand how he can be in favour of it. Would he want to compete against someone who had taken performance enhancing drugs? Its the same comparison. There is scientific evidence that has been researched thoroughly, its not an anti trans thing, it's a fairness thing.

I can't understand how he's not embarrassed. Or at least clever enough to keep a low profile regarding his views on this issue.

He was always really friendly with the British women's divers, does he not think he's being offensive and misogynistic, inviting biological men into their category?

He has to know transwomen have an advantage, I'm not buying naivety as an excuse - he's been in the world of elite sports most of his life.
Nevermind him thinking it's his place to speak on behalf of women 😠

Poor little boy. I don’t believe in regulating surrogacy as I don’t agree with the commodification of women’s bodies at all anyway but it scares me how easily babies can be bought and used as some sort of accessory.

He is a selfish pr*ck to be honest. Does’t care about how female athletes feel about the unfairness.

Tom often talks about Dustin helping him through dark times. I imagine he thinks it'll be seen in a positive way, but considering Tom was 19 and in a bad place when they met, and Dustin was 39, it makes the whole thing seem rather creepy and exploitative.

Although, I find Dustin creepy in general. Bloke looks like the Victorian death mask version of Barry Keoghan.

You’ve worded it more eloquently than me. I don’t have an issue with gay men raising children just that surrogacy is often pushed as LGBT issue when it’s actually a women’s rights issue.
Deffo, it’s the same as when heterosexual couples choose that option, or single women. I ‘judge’ just as much. I don’t care about who has kids (within certain perimeters obviously) but, it’s about using another woman to do the dirty work, take the risks and then just vanish seemingly. I know they are now saying the jonas baby was due to other issues, but I gather that was also about it being timing and her career plans and not wanting to stop her life. But again, if developing a career is more important then adopt, Hugh jackman has always seemingly been open about it, and a lot of normal couples have to adopt because ivf funding is so shit. But again, it’s about the ‘whole experience’ and being able to buy it all. But what celebs forget with this is that one day, even if they say that child has their genetics, they still can’t answer the questions kids have about pregnancy and birth, such as the ‘did I kick a lot’ etc. the very identity issues that come with adoption that they might feel surrogacy avoids. or with gay couples, where the egg came from because that child has a mother, biologically speaking. What if they decide then that they want to live with the egg donor, or ‘mummy’. Or do they expect that the child will just believe daddy and daddy made them?
It’s a whole minefield of ethical unknowns, beyond the health issue, but yet everyone is expected to sign up to ‘it’s a right to hire someone’ to have a baby, like it’s the same as hiring a cleaner.
And people like Tom and Dustin, tan france and his partner, and the made in chelsea ones just show a life where a baby fits in nicely and nothing has to change, so why wouldn’t other rich people want to buy one and save the hassle? But then we end up with a world where you can literally buy life…..

I do not knit ( I crochet for stress management), but have been looking at opinions of his work of the reddit craft subs. People seem very split on if he is a good knitter or not, pointing out how good some elements of his work are, but also somethings that he needs to work on.

This would not be an issue if he portrayed himself as an enthusiastic amateur or hobby knitter. However, he is selling books on how to knit, and knitting kits.

People are also annoyed at how expensive his knitting kits are, £90 despite supposedly being for beginners.

And the fact that a lot of his knitting pictures double as weird thirst traps.

....

I agree with comments about his outfits. He always looks like a child playing dress up in clothes to big for him. Nothing wrong with flamboyant outfits, but you need a certain type of swagger and charisma to pull them off and he just doesn't have it.

I met him, very briefly, when he was in his early teens. His family lived opposite a family member of mine in a modest property, but my family knew the family antics reasonably well in a neighbourly way.

He was insufferable even then. His diving very clearly made him the most important of 3 children, the one who got the most attention from his ailing father, he courted publicly, they would often have things like welcome home banners etc when he came back from anywhere for the rest of the street to see. Everything had to be a constant celebration and fuss about how wonderful he was. He was always centre of attention in any situation.

Nothing really any different than you will have seen online or on his documentaries. He was always needing a lot of fuss around him because even though he was a fame whore, he was also always (pretending to be) on the verge of throwing in the diving and the parents were to an extent, reliant on his income towards the end of the father’s life, he even funded an extension to the house and new kitchen…which is fair enough considering how much of their own income they lost to support his diving. I suspect he did it to be the favourite son.

He was bullied at school, but to an extent brought it on himself by behaving like he was better than everyone else, I don’t think it was actually anywhere near as bad as he claims. He wasn’t missing school or coming home in tears every day, in fact the school were providing some remote support when he went away to competitions and camps and doing their best to accommodate his every need…he was their star pupil and where he went to school was in the newspapers etc, they really looked after him. I went to that school myself (slightly before he did) and I can assure you that they didn’t give a shit about individual kids unless they were ‘special’ in some way, and the chosen ones got the exact opposite approach. He just suddenly claimed he was being bullied and literally the next minute he’d been offered a free place at the local private school, which the school got a lot of publicly out of.

When I was introduced to him, out in the street, it was an awkward moment, as if I was supposed to comment on the fact he was a famous diver rather than just a random kid of a neighbour of a relative. Although I did actually know quite a lot about him and the family as they were the gossip of that street.

In his late teens he was sponsored by a local car dealership and therefore given a brand new free car, complete with personalised number plates…it had ‘dive’ in it just to make it really obvious, it was advertised they’d done that with a photo of the car in local news and he was out on the roads a lot. He then moved out of his mother’s house and bought himself a property of equivalent size but of older style and in a more expensive nearby area (extremely close to where I was living at the time). I knew exactly where he’d moved to because of the car. No loud parties, he was in and out quite a lot, I assumed he liked the idea of driving around the city with everyone noticing his car.

He bought 2 indoor cats, then abruptly uped and left for London, selling the house a little while later after leaving it empty for a while. The cats went to his mother, maybe he got bored of them.

Any minor news of him makes it to the local rag here and he is heavily featured, whereby people in the comments section rip him apart and state disinterest in his being reported on. Aside from that…since he moved to London when he was about 18/19…I’ve not seen or heard anything about him actually being here in Plymouth at all. He built himself up as this ‘local hero’ figure for years and then did a runner as soon as another opportunity presented itself.

I think he’s very much a social climber and had his eye on the prize of tv stardom from the start, the diving was just a means of getting there. I also don’t believe a word of this body image nonsense, he takes his kit off at every opportunity and hasn’t stopped doing so even when he finished formal training work. He doesn’t worry about his body due to anything other than extreme vanity.

Also, the mother isn’t as old as she looks, she’s a bit overweight and a bit of a scruff which ages her. He’s the eldest and she had him quite young. I doubt there’s much age gap between his mother and his husband.

Wonder what all the female swimmers/ sportswomen must feel / say about Tom as they are slowly erased from their sports and careers.

There is a try-hard insincerity about him that makes him quite unlikable to me, much the same as Sam Smith. It's the whole anything for attention thing...so tedious. I get genuinely bad vibes off the husband though, always have for some reason.

My sister has been in a relationship with a much older man for about ten years now. He's also wealthy and I've watched over the years as he's subtly gaslit her and moulded her to his liking. It's now at the point where you ask her what she thinks of something and she replies "Well Steve thinks..."

The knitting thing might seem trivial - he’s mediocre at it as I’ve said previously, but the thing that’s annoying about is that just because he’s a bloke doing something he gets praise heaped upon him from the heavens like he’s the second coming. Some of the things he poses with as though he’s made them were made by other, female, makers. I expect the patterns in his book were written by them too.

So the child doesn’t even have the right or option to know who their own biological father is?
Jesus Christ, it’s abhorrent.

Gay men get judged more harshly than mums? Fuck right off.
Who looks after the kids when they are out at parties if they don’t have a nanny?

Heaven help us! He has enrolled in The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA.
He obviously imagines himself as a fashion designer because he has knitted a few bits of tat.
He wants more TV work too. We are going to be subjected to him turning up the opening of an envelope, aren't we?
