My daughter is 18 months next week. She can't crawl yet, doesn't even try.. has never pulled herself up at anything, doesn't even try that. She walks but holding our hand. If we try let go she just falls. And it's usually falling forward with a massive bang onto her face. She doesn't like cruising. I've also realised then when she's holding our hand stood up, if she wants to pick something up, she will not bend her knees at all, just bends at the hip and hangs off her arm.. thinking about it the only time she bends her knees is when she's just sat on sofa or highchair etc. Hmm I don't know, do I give it more time?

Some kids just don't crawl.
Most toddlers also tend to pick things up that way too.
If you're concerned, speak to your health visitor. They will be able to advise you 😊

I think I’d definitely be on to my HV about it. They could refer you to physio which may give you some ideas of things to do to help encourage movement from her.
That said, neither of my girls crawled before they walked. And my eldest girl didn’t pull up until after she could walk. A close friend had three kids who didn’t crawl until nearly 18 months, walked soon after and are all super sporty now as 4/7/9 year olds.

Does she have a push walker? That is a much better way to encourage natural walking motion than holding their hands - it’s also easier on your back!

Yeh my older son was commando crawling by about 12 month but was walking by now!

I know it may just be normal, but it's the way she bends and things too, and I feel like as soon as I move my hand away she's got absolutely no balance! She does have a walker but just cries when she comes to use it now and just looks for my hand.. I take her to playgroups twice a week so she can see other babies walking and crawling and use the other walkers etc. She walks everywhere with us, buy holding our hand and tugging us lol!

I have been back and forth to gp over the months too as her ears are always full of wax, and I do wonder if this isn't helping her balance 🤔

That would definitely be something more to get checked out, you never know it could be a really simple “fix” for her.
Reaching out for some reassurance to GP and HV definitely won’t hurt

My daughter is 3.5 but I had some concerns about her being delayed on her motor skills. I spoke to GP who referred me to HV who was able to refer us to physio. It took about two months to get the appointment I think but I guess waiting times will vary in different areas. My daughter has been discharged but the physio did a thorough check up and it’s put my mind at rest a bit. They also said because we’ve been there now, if I have more concerns in the future we can self refer back to them. Even when she’s at school next year they have said they can do a review at school if I feel she needs it. Anyway sorry for the ramble but just to say I found the appointment reassuring so I would recommend trying to see one.

Oh that's really good that you have that reassurance! I'm sure she's OK and maybe just being lazy but how long do you leave it lol! X

What do you guys get your nursery teachers for Christmas? Her fav person isn't her key worker so I was just gonna get them all the same 🤔

I know some of you worked in nurseries....was there something you hated and loved getting? I'm the most un inventive person ever and I hate giving presents incase people hate them 😂

This is the joy of them going to primary school and a couple of parents do a collection for the parents for the teachers!
One year, I had one of the mums give me loads of samples for hair stuff as she was a hairdresser, and i really appreciated it. It was so thoughtful, and I still think about it now (and the kid is 16!!)
For my sons teachers last year, I got them all a box of chocolates each, probably did go a bit ott, but I couldn’t leave them out. There was 8 of them 🤢 so cost about £30

Yeah we've got about 8 to buy for too if I do everyone 🙈 the joys 😂

Again, not sure if I'm looking for advice, opinions or just to rant. I was the one that posted about having a tired toddler at nursery. Today my partner dropped our girl off & he said the woman that was letting them in said to our daughter "are you tired today? Have you had a sleep?" I know I'm probably being an over sensitive, over protective mother but I really didn't like that. I know I wasn't there & will be making the situation worse in my head, but my partner did say there was a bit of a tone in the way she said it. Since the worst of the hayfever season is over (although there is still weed pollen flaring it up) she hasn't been as tired during the day. We spoke about seeing changing her to mornings but she seems to be settling in, talking about other children, the teachers & what she's done, she even wants to stay later. She woke up at 7.50 this morning but I know she'll fall asleep pretty much as soon as she gets in from nursery (we only let her have half an hour), it just tires her out! I'm on maternity leave so have too much time to over think things. I hate to think the teachers are speaking about her, that she's an inconvenience & difficult to handle when she's tired & grumpy.

I’m finally coming to join you guys over here because I’ve been in denial that my newborn is actually no longer a newborn and is now somehow 16 months old.

Welcome! can’t believe she’s 16 months! I remember you being overdue on the pregnancy thread.

I looked round a primary school today. My daughter is going to be 4 at the end of the month and I’m heartbroken. So weird she’s not a toddler anymore. Is there a thread for the next stage?

Any ideas on how to get a 2 and a half year old to sleep through the night please?! He’s got 4 molars coming through..shall I wait until they’re through then go on a smack down 😂

My toddler started nursery beginning of September. So far it’s been a throat infection, diarrhoea and now covid!!

100% lone parent too with no village. To say I am beyond nervous is an understatement. Last Xmas we were both really poorly and I honestly was terrified each day how I was going to survive.

bleeping germs!!!! We’ve got this

No there isn’t really, I think a good few of us have ones who are a bit older (my next one is about to turn 5, just started school) so I think this thread kind of covers a wide age range!

I’ve been to two school tours now. We had to bring our daughter to the second one and walking in holding her hand freaked me out 😭 my baby is all grown up.

Hope we’re all well? Just after some advice - had our HV appt earlier and she’s referred my 2 year old for a speech assessment. Mentioned it to nursery and they agreed they felt she was a little behind but not concerningly so and were going to discuss at parents morning in a couple of weeks. They both said nothing to be concerned about etc, and I’m no expert but she doesn’t seem behind her little friends the same age, but the fact they’ve made the referral suggests it could be a problem. She seems ok to me - has quite an extensive vocabulary but just struggles to use the words in context sometimes and say longer sentences…but she’s 2? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I dunno but now I am worried so any experiences/advice would be helpful!
