Is he drinking plenty? Offer things like melon, ice lollies etc as well to increase fluids to make sure he is getting lots through.
If he’s holding it that’s a really good sign that he is able to control his bladder already!
Yes hun, he's been having lots to drink, but he's not gone at all! I mean if he's holding it in, then that's a good thing? ..... bless him. Gosh, nothing prepares you for this toddler stage does it?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣absolutely winging everything here!send help!

This was my 3 yo when I potty trained him. He held it in until I put his nappy on at nap and bed time. Sometimes would have an accident or wee as soon as he got in the bath 🙄 he now goes about 30x a day and has been fully potty trained for about a year and a half

I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. But he was showing signs of being ready. Ie- pointing to his wet nappy and going in his tent and doing a poo then pointing to his nappy. I was getting the feeling he didn't like his nappy to be full. So I decided to try once his potty came.
But gosh they say newborns are hard work but this toddler stuff is another new exhausting!

I’m on my 4th toddler, and I still don’t know what I’m doing 😂 give me a newborn any day if the week. Would happily take sleepless nights than what we are going through now!

My 3yo keeps holding in her poo 😩 she’s been potty trained for a year so no idea what’s brought it on now. She hasn’t pooped since Monday evening, has had prunes for the past three days and lactulose today. She keeps crossing her legs and standing still to hold it in so I tell her to go to the toilet and she says she doesn’t need a poo 🙄

Ring your gp they’ll give her a drink to make her go. My niece ended up going to a&e with constipation loads when she was 3/4 she was scared to poo
It’s Friday now she defo needs to see someone I’d have thought!!

@Upintheair83 potty training is one of my least favourite times. It is absolutely beyond exhausting. This is my fourth time and I always feel clueless. But they all get there in the end. What worked with ToddlerMe the first few days was me saying I needed the toilet and his desperate desire to one up me, and he would go first 🙄

That's so cute!!!!!!!.... hahahha. Bless him. Xxxx

Thanks for your reply! I'm definitely realistic about what is a good amount of time, we just don't seem to get 1 minute of it 😂 just feels a bit draining each day! I've organised the toys so they're not as overwhelming and recently got some new bits in as thought maybe he was outgrowing some toys. I'll keep going!
Mine is a smidge younger but I agree with the above, she’s definitely better doing something like cleaning or mopping with a flash mop and a wet wipe, than playing with toys. That said, since she moved rooms at nursery to one where they do more independent play, she will now play with her dolls and read them books, or sit and do some colouring for 5/10 minutes at a time, it seemed to click one day that she could do these things on her own for a few minutes so hopefully he’ll have a similar realisation!

I really like the ikea ones. We have the little one for the car and the bigger green and white one for the house. The bigger one comes apart so you just carry part to the toilet to empty it.

Oh great! Thank you! That’s helpful to know.

2 important questions if anyone has any advice…

1. How to get a toddler on teeth brushing strike to brush their teeth? Have tried literally everything and she just clamps her mouth shut and refuses 😬

2. Kallax or Trofast, which is better for toy storage? Our toys are mainly dolls and assorted accessories, and then craft-y stuff and books/jigsaws. My brain is a muddle of ikea storage solutions 😂

1 in the bath/shower. I’m also not the best at brushing toddlers teeth 😬
2 kallax. Always kallax

I really really struggle to do my toddlers teeth too. He’s not 2 yet and doesn’t really fully have the understanding / communication where I can explain or reason with him so it’s often done the same way I have to give him medicine…. Wrapped up after a bath in a towel and holding his hands down 😬 that makes me sound like a monster…. Or a vet.

We’re also on shower/bath strike haha, but she’ll reluctantly have a bath if we also wash her ducks, so maybe I should try brushing their teeth too 🤦🏼‍♀️

Needs must! I want her to want to brush her teeth (if that makes sense) so I’ve always held back from sort of forcing it and tried to encourage but tbh she needs to brush her teeth and it’s clearly not working so might just have to go for it!

I'm in the same boat, so I feel and hear you!! It is draining when it's constant, but I think by joining in with play and then stepping away is a good move. And one I do too! It just hurts my back on the floor all the time, so I invested in a really good quality play mat and a long cushion for the floor which has helped enormously.... the idea about the toys is actually really good and one I think I will try. Xx

Ok this might not be for everyone but I used to lie mine down on his bed and gently coax the toothbrush in his mouth. Do you have an electric one they are much easier. Sometimes I had to lift his top lip a little and he used to stick his tongue in the way 😂 he hated it at first but now he’s fine with it. It is a bit stressful and hard work but I believe just keep doing it and they’ll stop fighting. I also used to do his then give him a break and do my own half way through then he wanted to do mine so he would help me and then do his own. Taking it in turns really worked for us 🙈 After he was ok with it lying down I would do it in the bath and now he does it stood up in the bathroom
I had to lie him down cos he is a slippery strong little munchkin and would always manage to run off

We've got a Totter and Tumble Mat but I think the last couple of years are taking their toll! I'll have a look for a long cushion, that's a good idea! It's a lot isn't it. I keep trying the retreat thing and then look round and he's hugging my legs one minute later :ROFLMAO:

Sounds a bit much but I made a visual timetable for bedtimr when we started having resistance all along the way - it has picture cards of each step, seems to stop the battle.

We've got Trofast, I wanted drawers for some bits like pens/craft stuff.

I got mine a really good toothbrush lol. My 3yo has been hating to brush his teeth but I got him this cool crocodile toothbrush from the Asda that has a crocodile head that you put on it when you’re done and it stands up and is just a crocodile. He’s buzzing, he wants to show the crocodile how he brushes his teeth every time 🤣 sometimes it can be the littlest of things 😂

On the teeth brushing, we give our son a choice of different toothbrushes so he's excited to use them. Then we tell him that we have a problem that we can't read him his story until he's brushed his teeth. If that doesn't work we ask him if he would like to brush his teeth or if he wants us to do it. That usually does the trick.

We have always done it so we take it in turns. If they let me brush first, they get to have a brush. And then back to me again.
It's always worked... so far 😂

We've got loads of Kallax in the house. They're so handy. I'd recommend them to everyone.
