Does anyone use universal credit to pay nursery? How does it work?

I did a benefits calculator the other day that seems to think we’d be entitled to some UC but we currently use tax free childcare and my understanding is we’d have to stop using that and use the UC to pay nursery instead. It’s putting me off a bit because I know what I’m doing with the tax free childcare but obviously the extra UC would be very useful.
I used it last year before my 3yo got his free hours. It was annoying as we got charged every 12 weeks, so I’d have to find the money for the 12 weeks, and they’d pay it back over 3 months. But I do believe they were stopping having to pay upfront?

You just take them to check in with your bag, they tag them and you take them to outsized luggage.
Sorry just jumping onto this- so defo no need to let them know or book the 2 free large kids items? As we are taking a car seat and stroller with us when we go away next month x

I assume I’d still get funding if you have a bill on top of the free hours? We still pay around £500 a month.

I have UC for childcare. Previously used tax free but you can't have both together.
You would need to pay the first month upfront as you then need to send them the evidence of payment on bank statement and the nursery invoice.
It's worth it for me, they cover 85% of the costs.

Yer, I’m pretty sure you get Both the free hours and UC. I have never done both though as mine have only done 9-3 term time

With easyjet as long as you’re checking it in it doesnt need to be booked, as it’s free. In the interest of full transparency it’s been many years since we did take a car seat or buggy, but we still have very little ones and they always ask us at check in if we have a car seat or buggy To check in as well.

Settling in sessions at nursery today and yesterday (just for an hour). Yesterday was fine but she just stood with her arms crossed watching. Today when I handed her over she got really upset but eventually joined in and she was running around playing when I went in.
Next week she has to start full time, does it seem like too much of a jump from doing 2, 1 hour sessions to almost a full day? I would've thought they would have eased her in more?!

That's usually the standard minimum settling in for most places. They base it on how they are when you leave pretty much.
So if they think she was fine for that hour, they wont suggest any more because usually if they're good for the hour, they're good for longer.
But if you feel she needs more, just let them know and they'll arrange more

Thank you. I've decided to take all week off and I'll maybe just stick her in for a few hours and work up to a full day that way. They did say they think she will be totally fine. She's very confident but was just that initial few mins

A lot of kids have that reaction even after being there for years 😊

Mine has been going since April 2022, and there are kids there who have cried at every drop off since then, and I see their parents getting upset but I kid you not, by the time their parents have gone out the gate and I’ve dropped mine off they’re sat playing and laughing. I think some seem to struggle with the goodbye but as soon as they’re distracted they’re loving it!

We're going on holiday in a couple of weeks and LO will have his own room with a single bed. He currently sleeps in his own wee bed, and has never fallen out or gotten out after we've left his room, but I'm worried he might fall out of this bed 🙈 Any ideas what we can put on the floor just in case?

Can you get a bed guard instead?
Ours goes flat and fits in the bottom of a suitcase

Tooth brushing update: bought her two peppa pig toothbrushes and she now snorts at me like a pig when she wakes up in the morning and after dinner to indicate she would like to brush her teeth 🤣🤣🤣 seems to have worked…for now!

I would just stick a pillow kingside him. So if he rolls it goes first and he lands on it. My 2yo fell out of my in laws bed a few times the other week. He was grand, one time he didn’t even wake up.

Really random but The Works do 10 for £10 on books, and it’s a decent selection, not just rit no one wants to read 😂 they also have very reasonably priced toys and arts/crafts. Thought I’d pass the recommendation on! Pregnancy insomnia causing me to late night shop 😂😂

This is really great when you get to the stage of one million birthday parties. 10 books, and then something else small (bubbles etc) to go with it and you have a whole load of gifts ready for parties.
