As it’s been so hot the last few days when we’ve got home from nursery mines just been naked cos he’s been in the paddling pool so I thought I’d try and potty train a little but I really don’t think he’s ready at all he just keeps doing it on the floor I have come up to him a few times with the potty but he won’t go up to it himself when he needs a wee ( when he’s in the bath he will stand up if he needs a wee so he knows he needs one)
So I’m wondering if it’s the wrong time? I haven’t spoken to my mum since I posted a few weeks ago when she was talking to my fella behind my back about PT. I rang my dad the other day to ask him something & she answered and guess what she mentioned. Are you going to try potty training
Honestly I want to kill her
I am getting a bit stressed this morning ( I’m due on and the thought of seeing her tomorrow is overwhelming)
When I said to her he isn’t ready she said it’s like training a puppy you have to force it
But you don’t do you? If he’s not ready he’s not ready?!
or am I doing it wrong

Thanks for reading. God I’m upset now🤣🤣 don’t even know why

OT but where are you all getting mini milks from? 🤣 I couldn’t find any in various supermarkets the other day.

Aw bless you. My mum is similar, constant digs about things and it’s so annoying. They never just offer friendly advice do they it’s just constant digs and little snide remarks. If they just spoke to us normal and actually genuinely helped rather than be rude about it we’d appreciate it more!!

But no i didn’t force it really, he did have little signs where i thought he was ready so i just gently showed him towards the potty and tried to catch it when he went nappy free but i found it was a lot easier when he started showing signs. Maybe if you just keep saying here’s the potty or the toilet he might grasp it a bit more, but no don’t force it, go at his pace

I know why do they have to be so horrible about it 😂😂. I’ve told her loads of times to leave it but she’s not giving up
Don’t know what it matters to her anyway. She isn’t the one buying the nappies or changing them

also he doesn’t like underpants. When I’ve put them on He cries And isn’t happy until they’re off. 😔

It takes a good little while for the realisation to go from I peed -> I am peeing -> I need to pee -> I need to get to a toilet to pee.
Even if he knows when he is peeing it takes time before he has enough realisation to get to the potty in those split seconds before he knows it’s about to come. You really need to be watching constantly so when you see those signs or see him start, you can while him straight on the toilet or potty.
If you persevere it will happen, but having a realistic outlook about it definitely helps. It does take a good while, especially if you are taking a more gentle approach as you seem to be (and I do too). If you want it to be time, it is. They are capable of so much, but with the right support and time frame. People who say they tried for two days and it didn’t work haven’t gone in with realistic expectations IMO. I have decided with all my older ones when it’s time, and that’s that. Well my third more or less did it herself a few days before I was about to start anyway 🙈 but that’s so rare!
I really recommend Oh Crap Potty Training for some mental back up, I always reread before I start again and have found it gives me a good basis for PT.
we will be heading in to that world again in 2 weeks… can’t wait…

He is fascinated when he’s done one😂. I will keep going I think. I have just been googling and it says boys take a lot longer than girls
I guess you can’t put a time frame on it
But when I take him out am I meant to put nappies back on him?

that’s exactly what happened this morning when I turned my back to wipe the kitchen sides he was peeing on the floor I quickly put the potty under him to catch the rest

also his Willy hangs over the edge so he’s standing up that’s alright isn’t it?

I have to say I don’t think gender matters. I’ve done 2 girls and 1 boy, and my boy was equally as good as my girls. I think personality is more important.
Nappies on when you go out is really up to you. Have a think about what time frame you’re hoping for overall, and how you want to handle it.
Most “experts” say once nappies are gone, they are gone.
I have done a mix in the past of nappies still on when we go out, and pants on. Again it depended on the child, the stage you’re at, and your own feelings I think.

It’s hard cos he likes to drink a lot so he will just pee if we go nappyless if I nip to Asda or something 🤨
I’m just wondering about confusing him that’s all

Yes I think that the confusion is the reason why it isn’t generally suggested.
When you go out I would wait until he’s done a pee, then go out and when you get there try a wee, half way through your activity try a wee, and before you leave. I’ve always said ours have to do “a try wee wee - if nothing comes that’s ok” before we go in the car, when we arrive etc. it is just a few weeks (months) of commitment to giving up the easy life and being “on” a bit more. It can be knackering! And at some point you will think why the hell didn’t we just stay in nappies?! But it gets there in the end!

If he is happy standing up then there is no issue at all! My boy always sat and we just taught him to hold it down otherwise it sprayed around like a hose.
Again, I can’t wait to start with ToddlerMe in a few weeks. He’s the sort of kid who’ll think it’s funny to spray me with it.

Thankyou that’s great advice and makes me feel a lot better. Doesn’t sound as daunting now

It does definitely feel daunting, I always start to panic a bit in the run up, but we’ve never had a major disaster (yet). There are definitely ups and downs, it’s not a linear process, but you get there!

so my daughter and her dad are at the caravan with his mum. She’s FaceTimed me twice saying she wants to come home and come to mummies house, I think it’s cos she’s bored as it’s been drizzly, but I said take her out to the arcade and spend on the 2p machines and she’s fine now. I hate it when she is saying she wants to come back home as it’s hardly ever she’s away from me Friday to Sunday 😭 I’m enjoying the break but I can’t wait to see her on Sunday afternoon lol

Talking about potty training. My daughter has started asking for the toilet. She will be three in September. Never forced it on her but she knows because she watches me on the toilet all the time (can't wee in peace y'know) and I thought I will just wait til I see signs.
Well the last few days she has actually said she needed a wee and would go to the toilet. I help her on and she actually wees and wipes herself.
Is this potty training 😂
She was dry all day when we were out and kept asking for the toilet in public places.
Still pooping in her nappy but I expect that will come later.
Thinking of actually putting her pants on now instead of pull ups but scared I'm jinxing it 😂

That’s brilliant! Some kids just really take it on themselves, which is so much easier. What a great experience for you both! Defo move to pants, sounds like she’s done amazingly.

I went for a wee myself and when I came back down he was stood over the potty finishing a big wee 😭😭🥹
🎉🎉🎉🎉 amazing!
