Someone must have an answer to keeping their toddler in bed after the transition from cot to bed! It’s been months now of every single night putting her back into bed at the very minimum 10 times. Every night she has a bath, a story, kiss goodnight. Every single night she gets up. We have tried rewards, sanctions (taking a toy away for the day), ignoring her, relentlessly silently putting her back to bed. I have to watch her like a hawk all day so that she doesn’t nap and can’t drive anywhere after midday in case she falls asleep. It’s driving me crazy. Any other advice apart from all the above… currently sitting in the dark ignoring her talking to me from her bed and climbing all over the floor.

I use the Tommee Tippee groclock and find it good. She knows she's not allowed get out of bed until the clock goes yellow and I come in!

Thank you both for the same recommendation! Maybe I’m missing a trick here but I thought the gro clock was for early risers, as in don’t get up until 7am etc. rather than stay in bed now at 8.45pm (and still going strong!) did it work for both going to and getting up from bed??

You tell them they can't get out of bed until the clock turns yellow.
And you set it with them before putting them in bed. There's also a story to read with it too if you want to. We read it the first few nights

The first few days, she got up and I just took her back to bed and reminded her she can't get up until its yellow.
And then she just started falling asleep whilst laying in bed chatting to herself.

She's never been an early riser. We used it just to keep her in bed. She often sleeps past when it turns yellow anyway

Yep as above! When ye press the button at bedtime the clock goes blue and the owl goes to sleep so no getting out of bed until morning when he wakes up and it's yellow!

This heat definitely doesn’t help! Definitely have so much respect for working mums, it must be so hard. I find it a struggle as it is 🤣

I know you recommend the groclock a lot, but what age do you think it stops working? T Bean keeps getting in to our bed during The night, I think because we moved/went on holiday days later and then I went away so his sleep is all up in the air. I just want him to stay in his bed! He is 3 next month x

Ivy is still using it and she's 4 and a half 😊

Yeah she’s 3 😂

Im fine, I’m used to it. She stopped napping at 15 months so evenings would be managing her overtired meltdowns and bed by 6. At least bedtime wouldn’t take so long 🤣

Me right now 😂

We started using it when she was around 2 and a half i think.
So I'd say he's the perfect age!

It takes a bit of patience to start with for the first week or so. And a few tears because she didn't want to go back to bed. But we persisted in taking her back and it's been so worth it.
Since getting it, we just put her in bed, say goodnight ect ect, shut the doot, she chats to herself/her teddies for a bit and then goes to sleep. And we don't see/hear from her until 7am or after so it's 100% worth the first week of backward and forward 😂

He is fine going to bed, but the last 3 weeks it’s staying in bed. He doesn’t nap anymore, so he is shattered by the time he goes down. I’ve tried bribing him to stay in bed and he nods and smiles, but bloody creeps in 😂

My 6.5yo can’t tell all the times yet (just o’clock and half past 🤣) so he still uses to it let him know when it’s ok to get up. We only stop using it when the can accurately read a clock in their room.

I don’t think his brother can tell the time, but he’s not a problem. He also goes to bed (grumpily) but easily once he’s up. If he’s awake before everyone else, he will come down anyway. Just his brother being a pain!!!

My toddler has taken to hitting, kicking, throwing things and just generally trying to hurt his younger brother. It was going ok until the baby started being more mobile then it’s all gone down hill. I’m hoping it’s just normal sibling rivalry but obviously it’s quite hard to witness. He’s very good at using his words and he’s learning to say what he needs, like “I’m just trying to have some quiet time” so when he says that we move the baby away, repeat it to the baby and entertain him elsewhere so toddler knows he’s been heard but if we don’t get there quick enough to move the baby he’ll just kick him away. This morning I didn’t get there quick enough so he kicked him then threw some stacking cups at him. I made a big fuss of the baby (just saying how it must have been sore and giving him a hug etc but not shaming the toddler) but it just escalated and the toddler ended up throwing his full cup of water across the room, I ended up shouting which I don’t want to do. Once we’d all calmed down I apologised and explained my behaviour and his behaviour to him. Is this need to hurt his brother a phase? Is there anything more I can be doing to help him get over it?

Ugh sooo hard when the babies start being an absolute pest to the big ones. We get a lot of frustration towards ToddlerMe when he is destroying play that the older kids are working on. One thing I’ve implemented is that if it’s something that they don’t want him to wreck, they need to do it somewhere he can’t get to (for us that’s in another room, door closed, or at the kitchen table) That has removed quite a lot of the issue, but obviously not all.
A lot of validation of feelings “You’re really cross because babyBanana knocked over your tower, I understand why you feel so cross at him” and then the rest as you’re already doing to deal with his lashing out. IME the little one continues to be an annoyance for quite a while, and it’s really just the start of sibling squabbles.

god it’s so hard, I don’t want the toddler to feel like I’m constantly nagging at him and sort of taking the baby’s side but I can’t let him hurt the baby. I always try and make sure he hears me say lovely things about him and hears us “take his side” with the baby. Idk, I just worry he’s going to feel like I prefer the baby because the baby is so full on.
We’ve started putting special things like play doh and smaller toys on the table and he says himself it’s to “keep baby safe”. It just feels like it’s every time the baby so much as crawls towards a toy the toddler just has to have it and there’s screaming and pushing so learning to share or take turns is feeling like an impossible task. The toddler also runs into things or falls over on purpose when we’re trying to stop him hurting his brother like hurting himself is a get out of jail free card - i knew parenting was hard but I don’t think I ever pictured these hurdles
