When you cut onions, it’s the onions last defence mechanism to release the vapour that causes your eyes to water (which is actually our defence mechanism for protecting our eyes).

Now I feel guilty when chopping onions and for not watering plants as often as I should 😭

It happens when you cut/prune them too 😂

Eunice Huthart is Shiloh Jolie Pitts godmother .
Sometimes I shock myself when I remember very random facts from years and years ago from the deepest darkest depths of my (often stupid) mind. I instantly recognized this name when I read your post, the lady from ITV Gladiators, short hair, iirc did pretty well and was a badass. Must’ve been something like, 1994-ish? I never had any knowledge of her after this period.

On Googling just now, it’s nice to see she went into forge a good career in Hollywood as a stunt double.

The reason pirates wear eyepatches is because when they invade ships, the crew of the invaded ship all run down to the cabins to hide and arm themselves in an attempt to fight back. The pirates, when landed on the invaded ship, go down to the cabin and switch the eyepatch from left to right (or vice versa) so they have one eye to see better in the dark, more so than their sunlight-exposed victims

For some reason, people think pirates with eyepatches are from olden times, or even fictional - a pirate ship invaded a Swedish ship just last week!

…that my ex husband has been slandering me on the internet despite the fact our marriage collapsed in 2015 and he has since remarried and has a child himself.

When your dog follows you to the loo and stands guard, it’s because they know that you’re at your most vulnerable state, and they are simply keeping watch like they would do in a pack.

When cats bring you “presents” of almost dead things, they aren’t just contributing to the household. They believe you don’t know how to hunt efficiently, so they bring you something that they believe you can finish off, just how they would do to teach their kittens how to hunt for food. So basically they’re just telling you how inferior they think you are to their superiority (yet again) 😂

with the huge earthquakes recently in arid areas ie Turkey and Syria, you think, Jesus, what bad luck to have an earthquake so close to civilisation. The areas were close to fault lines and tectonic plate boundaries which makes them at risk for earthquakes. Anyway, the interesting part is that this also has a lot to why these settlements sprung up there in the first place. When tectonic plates rub against each other they can basically (crap explanation) cause bodies of water to form.

Without getting too much into it, of course people way back in history would set up shop there. It’s the only place there is water for miles. These settlements grew into cities over the centuries. Earthquakes tend to be really devastating in these countries not just because the architecture isn’t suited to it but because populations have naturally concentrated close to risk zones over the years.

Another interesting tidbit is that just before the massive earthquake in Nepal, something like 70-270 schools designed to survive earthquakes were built. And when the earthquake hit a week or two later, all of them did. Unlike many of the other schools. This led to way more money being invested into resilient architecture as the proof was in the pudding. Crazy what humans can accomplish. Engineers and architects are incredible

If we could hear them it’d be like a bloodbath walking into a florists 😂
This whole conversation reminds me of the scene jn Notting Hill where those people are describing only eating fruit that falls of trees (iirc) 😂

I lived with what used to be called windfall vegetarian (fruit must have fallen and not been picked) and they got hospitalised with malnutrition. Seems a ridiculous way to live.

This is why dogs always turn and look at you whilst they're pooping too 😂

There’s an album from the '70s that you’re meant to play for your plants to help them grow. It’s called Plantasia.

There is also a book by Peter Wohlleben called “The Hidden Life of Trees: What they feel and how they communicate.” I have read the first few chapters. It’s interesting.

It’s difficult to eat things with sentience but it’s an unavoidable part of living.

A tin of soup is cooked IN ITS TIN in the factory! Not cooked in massive vats then poured into the tins afterwards. Actually cooked from raw in the tins! It's to help prevent bacteria contamination apparently. I'm gobsmacked learning this tbh. 🍵😳

That is so interesting. I thought it was just because they lost their eyes in battles.
