That's there no reason for the alphabet to be in the order it's in but we just go with it
i didn’t learn it today but the “&” sign used to be the 27th letter of the alphabet. It represents the word “and” and the alphabet in the early 1800’s used to be recited: “X, Y, Z, and, per se, and.” It would have been confusing to say “X, Y, Z, and.” So, the students said, “and per se and,” per se means “by itself,” so the students were essentially saying, “X, Y, Z, and by itself and.” Fast forward many years later and the former 27th letter of the alphabet & (and, per se, and) formed in language to the word “ampersand” - which is what we call the “&” symbol today.

today I learned that Barilla Italia created pasta named playlists that play for the length of time it takes to cook that specific pasta

About a story, of a man who lost his wife 16 years ago and raised his daughter single handedly. He chose to never move on and because he couldn’t give his daughter siblings, he bought her pets and showered her with love. I had the pleasure of meeting this young lady today to do her hair and make up for her sixth form leavers formal. She told me the story of her mum passing away when she was small and the story of her and her dad.
Half way through, he popped in and there was just something so pure and humble about him.
I drove home, after being tipped £20 by him, completely in awe of this guy who must of gone to hell and back, and pushed through to raise a beautiful well rounded young woman. I cried a few tears...just because, today I learnt there are still good men in the world, and there are also many who deserve so much more than the hand they are dealt in life..

There aren’t an infinite mixture of gene types, so there’s at least seven people around the world who look just like you.

I’ve only just seen realised from some threads on here that when people write ‘yt’ they mean ‘white’ and it has nothing to do with being a YouTuber 🤭

Today I learned that my seat on the sofa isn’t mine anymore and it’s been taken by Teddy the teddy bear (I learnt this when I sat down and my toddler said NO! Grabbed my hand, pulled me up and went ‘teddy’s chair’ and put his teddy bear down instead)

That the percentage on the weather doesn't mean the chance of that weather, it's how much of the forecasted area will receive that weather

So if it says for example
Rain - 40% of Manchester it means that 40% of Manchester will get rain
not that it's a 40% chance

Today I found out that MDMA is just plain old Ecstasy. I always assumed they were two different drugs 🤷🏼‍♀️

P. S. I only found this out by reading about it, not actually doing it 😁

When colour television started becoming widely used, the head of programming at the BBC noticed that it was quite hard to see tennis balls against the coloured background as they were white. He had them start using bright yellow balls instead, and it became the standard ball used in the sport across the world.

That head of programming, the man responsible for yellow tennis balls? It was only David Attenborough !

Today I learnt that the reason you don't go swimming after eating is because you can get cramps - I always thought it was because you would sink and die. I went to school in the 80s and we had a water safety video introduced by Rolf Harris. In hindsight, the swimming pool probably wasn't the most dangerous thing in that video.

The elderly couple seen hugging on the bed in the movie Titanic while the water floods the room were the owners of Macy's department store, Rosalie Ida and Isidor Straus. Ida refused a seat on the lifeboat stating *where you go I go" which inspired Roses line in the movie.
