My understanding was the the feeling was that it was Inappropriate and tone deaf for TB to be posting and accepting freebies. A lockdown was being announced, people were losing their jobs and small businesses were in the midst of one of the most challenging times. TB was posting pictures reveling in her free food at a time when many were faced with joblessness and homelessness.
it didn’t help that one of the companies sent a very obviously staged message to Tiffany about giving free food to a neighbour too.
people get irritated - and rightly so - when they see people are trying to deceive them.
it also didn’t help that TB didn’t always make it clear when something was gifted. There was also blatant hypocrisy in encouraging supporting local when accepting free items.
many here I believe felt it was unethical for TB (who is obviously fairly well off) to accept free items from small businesses during a time of uncertainty.
finally many of us (myself included) have said we won’t shop with companies who do this and have criticised them too.

I understand what you are saying and gathered those sentiments from other posts previously.
Small businesses are reaching out and gifting her purely for exposure in a time when they need advertising and pr but may not have the budget to do something more in very uncertain times. They are doing that as a means to save the business and perhaps some jobs?
I do agree there is an ASA issue with some posts were the transparency of stuff being gifted or advertised was flouted- absolutely right to call that out.
As an influencer, she promotes stuff and is paid for it. That's how it works. What i would have preferred to see was maybe giving back and promoting local businesses for free in the current times and giving some exposure, so maybe returning free items where possible or passing them on, once the content was captured. I'm not entirely sure though if that's possible because if she is managed by CM she may contractually not be allowed to do that.
perhaps, it’s all conjecture and I don’t think it really helps TBs case as none of the things above really paint her in a much better light anyway. But then people on this website (and many others off it) dislike influencers and that aspect of social media. It’s one of the reasons this website exists. It’s perfectly reasonable to criticise this aspect of influencing, this website provides a conduit for that.
Yeah but a lot of the companies gifting were struggling to stay afloat and keep staff as well, so the exposure from her and other bloggers gave them free marketing when they couldn't afford to advertise anywhere else. I don't think that's unethical? especially if people can still afford wifi or phone data to watch? I didnt see teh staged one so sorry if I am totally wrong here, cos that sounds a bit dodge
When do you think we can expect John Toner from BT who wrote the article to come on here and note the real issues people were actually trying to make TB accountable for, not to mention the tirade CM has been been on for the past 24 hours. I'm going to say never, because they are all looking out for themselves and protecting their dictatorships.
Anyone looking for a business idea? I think we need a trust pilot for social media influencers - if you comment on their posts, they delete it, if you send them a DM they tell you to bore off and block you, if you email them directly, they ignore you and if you come on here and talk about your dissatisfaction with their actions you're a hater or bully.
They want to act like a business, reap all the rewards and take no responsibilty. Sorry but there are actual respectable businesses and influencers out there that follow moral codes and invest in their brand to make sure they do the right things. But thats not where the money & *gifted (sorry can you still see that gifted or did I not hide it enough?) items are at.
I think a lot of what it was, certainly during the worst of lockdown, was the free food and declaring them as 'drops' not gifted or an ad. I totally agree that its fair enough to make money on Instagram if that's you game. I follow plenty of people who do and enjoy their content but be upfront about it, don't hide behind hidden 'gifted' tags or calling them 'drops'. Just makes it super shady. Also you want that following then engage with the people who you want to click on those links. At least have the decency to reply to their questions.
Also in passing on the free stuff or promoting the local business but possibly not an option due to contract terms, she manages to resell a lot of those gifts on her depop so I think if that's allowed, there's nothing stopping her from giving them away especially in these times. Don't know how fiat it seems to get paid to promote something, get given it for free, tell all your followers about it and then sell it on for even more money your pocket. Slightly unethical and clearly would just promote anything for the money
it wasn’t free marketing - they gifted items/meals and we don’t know if payment was recieved for it.
And that’s my point really - TB and others were promoting at a time when people were facing homelessness and losing their jobs. They didn’t have the cash to splurge on having a burger delivered. that is why it lacked taste.
also somehow I don’t see influencers as being the saviour of the U.K. economy.

looks like a bit of a puff piece, no real writing in it it just reports what Tiffany and Rebecca Maguire (I’m not sure who that is) have written.
it does seem like someone has requested they report on it so they’ve done an obligatory tiny piece, it offers no opinion and not much writing has gone into it. Maybe they’ll explore the story in more detail at a later date.

The last thing people care about at the minute is some nobody estate agent leaving instagram. People are fighting for survival at the minute. They all need to get a grip!

Can I just add, I know I keep banging on about accountability and responsibility, but, heres an example:
I used to follow Mrs Hinch, is she a bad person, no, I don't think so. But one day she sprayed a chemical cleaner on her babys bib to get rid of a stain, it says on the bottle, Do not use on clothing as it does not wash off in the washing machine! Now, honest mistake, she clearly didn't look at the bottle. We all make mistakes. The issue was, when it was brought to her attention, she just deleted the story and said no more about it. When she should have deleted the story, then come on and explained that you should not use the product in that way, she simply overlooked it at the time, didn't realise, sorry about that. But when you just delete it and hide your mistake, the damage is done, and god knows how many mums are out there spraying this chemical on their kids clothes not knowing it doesn't wash off and could be doing harm to their health because she hasn't bothered her butt to rectify it.
Its the same with TB, she liked a transphobic meme, when found out she goes and unlikes it and hides, rather than addressing it and saying, sorry it was a stupid thing to do, I don't think like that, it won't happen again. She doesn't know the reach it has had and who it has personally affected, because she's an influencer and if she thinks like this does a young impressionable person think her 60K+ followers think like this. I would like to think she's not transphobic, but it is these undertones (silly jokes) in society that are a big problem.
The same with the *ong phrase she used. She just deletes it and claims people are bullying here. Again the damage is done, are there people going around using this word now that TB used it, using this as a word for people without fake tan on?. She should have deleted it, come on and explained, guys I used a really offensive word that I didn't realise was offensive, please do not repeat it, I will never repeat it, sorry for any hurt caused!

from what i can gather on this forum there has been a fair amount of ill will towards TB beyond what she does online.
people have spoken about alleged affairs and the lead up to releasing her fitness book, as well as negative interactions they have had with TB. I haven’t lived in Northern Ireland for years now but that’s the impression I got.
I really do think for those reasons it’s good Tiffany has left Instagram. I think it’s healthier to take a step back, have some privacy and avoid seeking the attention/approval of others.
