Things that scared you as a child

I got into a rabbit hole watching banned ads and there was a fireworks one that was so horrendous
I remember a 90s one with a good looking guy walking down the street, 2 girls are looking at him, then he turns around and his face is like half blown off. I never see anything like that anymore but firework injuries still seem to be common don't they?

Yeah and that's why they should be banned from selling to people

It's still very much a thing though. A British woman died recently after being scratched by a dog in Morocco.

Some of the adverts they had on the TV though were horrific.
I've got a real soft spot for an old school public information film. Nuclear war, electricity substations, smoking, rabies, rubella, AIDS, bodies of water, strange men loitering round parks, there was a lot to be terrified of when we were kids 😂.

I feel like if we still had them anti vaccers wouldn't be on the rise

No one is getting zapped on an electric pylon on my watch! Definitely not. 🤣

There's a great account on X called "Scarred for Life" and it's full of posts about those old public information films, scary Dr Who baddies, and terrible children's shows. And this...🤣

Quatermass and the Pit, a TV programme my parents used to watch. No catch up in those days so had to have it on at the time and Dr Who. Would go to bed under the covers when both were on. The Quatermass music was horrendous, to me.

I bloody love Sparks and Ron Mael was part of the reason. 🤣

As for Dr Who episodes the one that seriously freaked me out was the one with giant maggots. The episodes where called The Green Death.

I was scared of that thick felty dust, the stuff you get on top of wardrobes that haven't been cleaned for years.
I was a strange child 🙂

Where I'm from that's called "stoor" and my mum used to have a pair of white gloves that she'd wear to "check for stoor" to make sure we'd cleaned our rooms properly. If we didn't, we'd get the blue wooden Scholl shoe hurled at us as we bolted 🤯🤣. The good old days of the 70s!! (Disclaimer: my mum was awesome, we weren't abused, that was life back then ❤).

My mum had these curtains and when I slept in her room the curtains were flowers but they looked like the eye from the front cover of the war of the world's CD and it scared me so much

The public service tv announcement/advert thing for AIDS in the 1980s.

Poltergeist movie, especially Reverand Kane serenading little Carole-Ann at the mall.

Those two things STILL scare me now, even at age 44! 😱

I always found space really scary - silent and deserted, me floating away in my little space suit ....😱
I still can't cope with the idea of infinity, I mean, space must end somewhere right??

As I said, I was a weird child 😬

Oh, I've thought of another one; when I was little my mum had an old fashioned china doll, but it's face was smashed. It had eyes that closed when the doll was laid down and you could see the mechanism inside the dolls head😭
It used to scare the bejesus out of me and my sister, we'd make my mum take it out of our bedroom.

100% agree, it seems bizarre that in a country with so many rules something so dangerous is unlegislated
I was on a bottom deck of a bus in London when I was at uni which would have been around 2003 and someone let off what I think were fireworks or firecrackers on the top deck and everyone ran down and out screaming. I hate fireworks and sparklers

My worst nightmare. I didn’t use Google Earth when it came out for ages for this reason
