The paintings phoebe gives to Rachel and Monica are honestly the stuff of nightmares
There was a playground just outside my house, it was concrete, but the concrete was cracked and chipped all over, and covered in broken glass. People would be horrified now but it was just normal, and we just played on it without a care in the world despite the imminent threat of being maimed and getting tetanus.I grew up in the 70's. We had Hammer Horror movies, seat belts were optional and playgrounds were covered in concrete and full of kids with broken limbs and bruises everywhere. Nothing scared us. Apart from this weird-looking bleeping rabbit thing, which looked like it was made from the discarded underwear of a possessed tramp...

BIB...Tetanus (or as my mum called it, "lockjaw") was a massive threat when I was a kid, despite everyone being vaccinated against it anyway. It was used almost daily to warn us off from the rusty old shears lurking in the shed, the assorted interesting-looking blades and knives in my dad's toolbox, and from going anywhere near my mum's bedraggled rose bush, which had already suffered from the endless onslaught of footballs, Frisbees and recklessly-ridden trikes. Even now, I'll carefully pick up my secateurs, with the echo of my mum's voice yelling "Don't come running to me if you get lockjaw" ringing in my ears! There was a playground just outside my house, it was concrete, but the concrete was cracked and chipped all over, and covered in broken glass. It wasn't until the 90s they replaced it with those rubbery black tiles. They take your skin off if you fall on them too.
My dad was telling me that his cousin died of tetanus and I thought it was way back when they were kids , but this was during the late 90s!BIB...Tetanus (or as my mum called it, "lockjaw") was a massive threat when I was a kid, despite everyone being vaccinated against it anyway. What in the holy duck of hell was this thing that’s definitely going to feature in my nightmares tonight!?I grew up in the 70's. That looks like Alistair Campbell in a costume to me lolThis fecker was terrifying.
We went on maybe 3 foreign holidays in my youth but it was drilled into me “DON’T TOUCH” any cats or dogs “THEY CAN KILL YOU”. It felt like rabies was an enormous, terrifying threat.BIB...Tetanus (or as my mum called it, "lockjaw") was a massive threat when I was a kid, despite everyone being vaccinated against it anyway.
I read War Horse as a kid and Joey gets lockjaw after being reunited with Albert (not featured in the stage version...) - he recovers but I ended up being terrified of getting it.Lockjaw was a real fear when I was young too!
It's still very much a thing though. A British woman died recently after being scratched by a dog in Morocco. We went on maybe 3 foreign holidays in my youth but it was drilled into me “DON’T TOUCH” any cats or dogs “THEY CAN KILL YOU”. It felt like rabies was an enormous, terrifying threat.
Not related to the topic you were talking about but some of the drink drive ones were very, very graphic , don’t really see them any more, I don’t know if they got banned or were effective and stats went down? It's still very much a thing though. Some of the adverts they had on the TV though were horrific.
I got into a rabbit hole watching banned ads and there was a fireworks one that was so horrendousNot related to the topic you were talking about but some of the drink drive ones were very, very graphic , don’t really see them any more, I don’t know if they got banned or were effective and stats went down?
We still get really bad ones in NI whereas the mainland ones seem tame! Not related to the topic you were talking about but some of the drink drive ones were very, very graphic , don’t really see them any more, I don’t know if they got banned or were effective and stats went down?
I just YouTube’d searched it and watched some - was it the one with the sparkler and the little girl? If not, which one?I got into a rabbit hole watching banned ads and there was a fireworks one that was so horrendous
What are some of the recent ones you get, are they on YouTube? We still get really bad ones in NI whereas the mainland ones seem tame!
We also used to have ones about paramilitaries and I vividly recall them shooting a body in lake/pond. A wild ad to have on
They show them after 9pm usually although I don't usually watch mainstream TV but they were all the DOE ones. Maybe I'm outdated! What are some of the recent ones you get, are they on YouTube?
No it's a red background a hand doing sign language counting down to new year every couple of seconds fingers blow offI just YouTube’d searched it and watched some - was it the one with the sparkler and the little girl? If not, which one?
This is my one: I’ve never forgot it:
If they do show adverts like these still I must have missed or skip them but I don’t see stuff like this being shown now but it used to be routine about all sorts of topics for decades.
I once watched a Freddy Kruger film and it was the one where she fell asleep on her bed and he sucked her in. I refused to sleep in my bed and my mum got me the hard sofa bed which folded on the floor because he petrified the life out of meMoths. Frogs. Freddy Krueger![]()
