ahh this is a wonderful thread! I lost my golden retriever 2 years ago he was just shy of 13, I miss him so much 
and can’t bring myself to get another dog as he broke my heart, those that have lost their dogs how long did it take for you to get another? I’m fortunate that my brother has a golden lab who I’m looking after right now whilst there away so still get all the cuddles without the permanent commitment and he’s fab company

Here’s some pics of my westie Hugo! He was at the vet last week cause he pulled a muscle in his neck 
all ok now a little rest and painkillers done the job. He’s getting older now he’s almost 14, his joints are developing arthritis now and have to pick him up and help him onto the sofa sometimes…see last pic for spot the dog!

I am a horrible pet parent.
(TL;DR: don't let your dog have a stick)
Re: the sticks - as I said before, we watch her and as soon as she snaps a stick we take it from her. If it looks jagged, we take it from her. If the bark is hanging off, we take it from her.
That didn't matter this week. Since last summer we've started letting her off leash in enclosed parks when nobody else is around (and she usually just stays close to us anyway) so that's what we did on this walk at around 6:30pm so it was dark.
We were nearing the end of the walk and couldn't hear her following us, so we turned and she was bucking and hitting her face with her nails - like properly digging into her face and at first we laughed thinking she was playing (She does look like this occasionally when she's playing but I am a fucking idiot). Quickly realised something was wrong, she had grabbed a stick and we didn't realise. The stick was quite long and stringy (if that makes sense?? Like it was spongy and peeling?) and it looked like it was going through the roof of her mouth at first but realised it was stuck at the side, down the side of her gums (this occasionally happens when she has carrots too for some reason) - I think one of the stringy bits had got wrapped around or stuck between her teeth.
I could hear the panic in my husband's voice because he couldn't get it. I don't know how but I stayed calm and stood with her in between my legs which amazingly and thankfully calmed her down enough where I was able to free the stick after a few attempts.
The whole time I was thinking "she's going to die, it's going to pierce her organs and we're not going to get to a vet in time". As soon as I knew she was ok I just burst into tears. The worst 65 days of my life (it was about a minute or less but it felt like days).
The little bitch happily trotted off and tried to find another stick and we stopped that and will continue doing so even though I hate stopping her having fun.
All of this to say (and I am sorry for the bloody essay) we were always so vigilant and thought allowing her to carry a stick but not chew/snap it would be fine. It wasn't and I will not risk it now. I am willing to be big bad mama to her by not allowing her to have sticks because we'd rather that than have her injured or lose her.
I honestly hate myself. I knew the risks and thought we were being safe and I would never have forgiven myself if it ended another way. So please please please, don't be like me. Just stop the stick play as much as you can. It's not worth it.

Took my pup to a puppy party at a doggy daycare the other day. He just spent him time running from person to person, avoiding the other dogs and mainly sitting on some children’s knees

Back to the "run-free" field this morning, been going now for around 7 weeks, she loves it.
There's a golf course a couple of fields beyond & she yelps/stares at the folk pulling their golf bags along

I have just arranged for a very talented artist to paint a portrait of our gorgeous doggy. I hope it is okay to show it on here when it is finished in a few weeks time. We are all excited to see the finished result

She definitely has a sensitive stomach, we bought a box of 30 Probiotic sachets, from Amazon, same one the Vet gave her.
She is very scared of certain types of dog when out, prefers to go a walk when it's quiet, early morning/late at night, passing traffic doesn't bother her so much now though which is good.
Not bothered by fireworks at all when in the house but she barks at them if outside & one goes off lol, our last dog was terrified of the bangs.
Have noticed tons of little scars over her head & body under her fur, don't think she was treated very well tbh.

Just wondering how old some of you folks dogs lasted, oldest I had was nearly 16, youngest I lost wasn't even a year old, we picked her up when we moved into our home, gorgeous collie, but she got out and was killed on the road

Got to see the Vet today, her temperature was fine, skin & coat are nice, no unusual stuff going on in her belly either, the Vet gave us a Probiotic to give her & see what happens, if no change we go back for blood tests.
When I got in from work she greeted me & bounced around for a bit lol, she does still seem a bit subdued though.
