Honestly if you're getting it mainly for workouts I'd get a garmin. You'll get much better tracking, some smart watch features and you won't be locked into the Apple ecosystem.
Thanks, I’ve seen loads of people with those too so I’ll definitely have a look :)
I have an apple watch and I dont think they are the best (scientifically) for tracking workouts - but I have never had any issues tracking run, spin, swim or weight lifting, sure it may not be 100% accurate but its fine for me. I like it because it ties in with my phone/laptop which are also apple and I think they look the nicest of the 'sport watches' haha. I have a 4 but my whole family have 3s and apart from the 4/newer ones looking slightly sleeker and doing ECG heart recordings I don't think there is any difference at all. Obviously worth considering the older an apple product the shorter life it has left with regards to updates etc but given they are still selling them I suspect they have a while. I think I saw an apple watch SE released which is cheaper than the 6 (if this is the current one) but slightly more probably than a 3 but maybe worth considering with the update consideration!
Thanks for this! I didn’t think there was much difference but wanted to check and get other’s opinions before I go spending any money on them, also thanks for pointing out that the older ones might have a shorter life span, hadn’t thought of that

I’m happy to talk you through the different models etc as I know it can be overwhelming. I’ve been using garmins for over 10 years at this point and would never switch. One MAJOR thing I would point out is the choice between a touch screen display vs pressing buttons to navigate. My Fenix 5s plus is operated by buttons and I prefer it because when I’m running I can hit laps etc without having to look at my watch. I can only imagine the horror of trying to do the same thing on a small touch screen while running fast with sweaty/ hands etc.

Obviously apple watches are touch screens as are the vivoactive, vivomove and venu garmin models. The rest of the Garmin models are button operated.
I was looking at Apple bc I have an iPhone so maybe I would end up using it for more than what I said, but I really appreciate the advice, I’ll definitely look into different models. Much to think about 🧐

Hi guys, I read all of the posts in this thread and felt so motivated to run today! Thank you for sharing all your tips!

I usually need to stop running (more like a slow jog) after 18 mins, but after taking on board all your suggestions (as well as not constantly checking my watch), I somehow managed to run for 34 mins today!

Really looking forward to running more in January and hope to quicken my pace ☺
this is great well done! What were the suggestions if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi @Shep decided I need to improve my fitness alongside C25k so did my first YouTube Zumba class today from a suggestion on another thread. It was great, really enjoyed it and the time flew by. I’m out for run 3 tomorrow morning so hopefully it will all become a bit easier. Thanks for checking in.

I finished couch to 5k about 4 weeks ago, so have been doing a 5minute walk, 30 or 35 minute run then 5 minute walk 3 times a week since then. However it now seems I have it band syndrome - and the overwhelming advice is to rest. I’m so disappointed, I feel like I’ve got so far now all my hard work will have been for nothing. I ran a few years ago and was plagued with shin splints so gave it up, typically this time round I didn’t get them at all but have this knee pain. Sorry, just miserable and sad I can’t run. I never thought I’d hear myself say that! 😆
oh no, gutted for you! I had IT band syndrome last year and couldn't run for six months as a result but it was because I was stupid and tried to carry on despite it. I got it with a month left of marathon training, rested for four weeks then tried to run the marathon. I made it to 12 miles before the pain was so unbearable I could only hobble a few steps before having to stop and after that it was painful for months. But (touch wood) I've made a full recovery so if you would like or need any help or advice please let me know. It's a horrible injury and I always want to help if I can when I hear someone has it.

I’m not sure how many of you are road runners? I have to run on them due to injury and poor footpaths around my area. I do it completely safely and in addition to this I live in a village so the roads are 30mph. Do any of you end up on the receiving end me of abusive motorists who take real exception to it?
Yes, I run on the roads to, some drivers are so rude they even pull in closer to me but I stand my ground and continue to run then I get the horns blasting 😂 or they soak me when they go through the puddles

Anyone got advice for numb feet? I get it whenever I walk or run a long way, all across the bottom of my feet. My shoes fit fine (properly fitted Hoka running shoes) and I'm not massively overweight so I'm not sure what's causing it. I don't even have to sit down to make it go away, just stand still for under a minute. But if I keep going and going, the numbness ascends all the way up to my knees.

Has anyone ever experience throbbing pain at night in one knee?

I went for a run yesterday at lunch break. All fine, nothing special happened. I was able to walk normally afterwards, no pain or anything. Then suddenly, in the middle of the night, I get this throbbing sharp pain in my left knee that woke me up. It lasted all night and as I tried to get out of bed, I almost fell because my entire leg was weak and painful. I couldn't walk at all. Thankfully, I took two Nuforens and it went back to normal.

Is it safe to go for a run again tomorrow? Or should I see a physio?

Need some advice please! I really got in to C25K and completed week 6, but a progressive pain in my foot got too much and I've had to rest for two weeks (I am angry!!!!!)

It seems like the tendon that goes over my ankle/front of my foot has been strained to the point where it was painful to even touch the skin.

Anyway - after complete rest it feels fully recovered now. I don't want to go back to week 1 - what do you all think my best bet would be to get back in to running again? I really miss it and am desperate to get back out!

I have never ever been a runner, but started the couch to 5k over summer. Got about 2/3 of the way through but then I found that around the 12 minute straight running mark I just felt sick? Like my legs were fine and I felt like I could've continued but stomach would hurt and I'd genuinely just feel so sick and it would take ten minutes of walking for it to go.
I tried morning before food, afternoon and evening after food but it all had the same sort of result - anyone know how to stop that? I'd like to get back into it but feel like there's no point if can't go any further.
Also if anyone has any tips for motivating yourself to go out when it's dark and rainy, that would be great 😅
I can often feel sick. For me I think its blood sugar, although mine doesn't last as long as yours. Were you leaving it long enough after eating before you run? What were you eating?

I use Mountain Fuel gels to help me. I use to take one out with me and eat on the go, but now I just eat it before I leave the house.

Since starting this thread I've basically abandoned running. It's making my chest hurt and I cannot get past week 3 of couch to 5k. Debating giving it another try but honestly...I feel like maybe I need to give up on running and find a new exercise. Anyone else ever experienced this feeling?
I get this when it’s cold outside - is it a muscular pain or a lung pain (if that makes any sense...?!)

Does anybody have any advice / brand / store recommendations for buying new running shoes? My current shoes are really needing replaced

I’m in the UK and prefer to shop in person, but not against online shopping

I know it’s best to go to a specialist running store such as Run4It and speak to a staff member who knows their stuff, but at the moment they are appointment only and I don’t really have the confidence to do that, and would prefer to shop solo.
Stick with what you have if you're happy.

Off the top of my head the run duration each week is exactly the same so if you’re covering the same distance in the same duration that means you’re consistent, well done!
Thanks for this! I’ve never done the programme before nor do I know anyone who has so I can’t ask these questions in person - found this thread at the right time!

Does anyone else get severe knee pain during their PMS time of the month? I'm usually fine before PMS, but as soon as it starts, running kills my knees. I also don't feel as light when running. It feels as though my body is dragging as in I feel heavier and slower.

Any suggestions to mitigate this would be appreciated :)

Just been for a lovely run in the sleet! Struggling to find the motivation to get out in the dark and cold at the moment but I have a lovely new waterproof jacket which helps.

I also went back to the gym for the first time on Wednesday when they reopened here and even though I’ve been running 5 times a week, I did a few squats and lunges and now have the worst DOMs of my life, I can’t even get down the stairs or sit on the sofa properly!! Omg it is the worst. It is so annoying but I only have myself to blame for being lazy during lockdown haha
Well done 👏🏻 oh god that’s what I’m scared of, the pain 🥴

Calf tightened after about 10 minutes. Carried on walking and it eased a bit but a bit sore now. I will give it another couple of days. Snow is forecast this weekend so it could be a good excuse to stay in the warm!

It might be how they're laced?
