Did week 4 day 1 on treadmill today - was awful, could barely do it. Finding it really hard this time round, it’s like my body doesn’t want to run. No way I could’ve done week 4 outside and I’ve done the first 3 weeks outside :/

Hi everyone, new to this thread but reading all your stories has inspired me! I workout (HIIT, weights and spin) c5 times a week with the odd run.. I only ever run about 3 miles (9 min miles).. I would love to do a half marathon next year, I live in the north west, can anyone recommend any? Assuming they go ahead
9 min miles good going! I ran the Warrington half marathon in September 2018 and loved every minute of it. I only ended up doing it because another half marathon I did was a complete fuck up due to poor organisation and I with many others got sent the wrong way by stewards and only ended up running like 11.8 miles or something. So wanted to run another to do it properly and think Warrington was only a couple of weeks later. Anyway it was mega, it was flat for the most part and really varied scenery, country lanes, road and you run through the football stadium at the end. There were even dead cute families handing out jelly babies outside their houses 😂 think it was about £35 to enter but I thought it was worth it. You got a t shirt, medal and goody bag at the end. Defo doing it again if it’s on next year.

Any advice for a newbie? I'm tier 4 and usually do 4 spin classes a week so looking for something I can do to get me nice and sweaty! I've downloaded coach to 5k but it's a bit slow. Any other running apps you would recommend? Or am I best to start with c25k?
Maybe skip ahead a few weeks if you’re comfortable doing so? Maybe start on week 3!

im doing couch to 10K and I found week 3 absolutely shit. I don’t know why but it was brutal. I’m now at the end of week 6 (15 minutes of non stop running whatttt) and finding it much easier end almost getting frustrated with the app stopping and starting running. Maybe try just going at your own pace without the app and running and walking as and when your body feels it - or keep trying with the app.
Which app do you use for couch to 10k? I used the bbc one for couch to 5k before, looking to start 10k now but don’t know where to start!

As nice as it is that this person is offering free training plans / advice, just a reminder that it’s really important to know someone’s background in depth (how long have you been running for, what pace do you do your runs, are they all on road, do you do any other sports, how active is your job, any niggles or injuries you’ve had in the past, and most importantly if you have any health conditions that might impact your running). It’s not as easy as ‘if you want to improve 5k time, do 1km easy, 1km faster for 6km twice a week’.

Remember, running isn’t hard, generally the longer you do it consistently, the better you get (which is how couch to 5k works).

I haven't posted here for agggggggges. I refuses to run over summer cos it was too hot, but decided I don't have that excuse anymore.

I also got a puppy in April, so want to start going out with her. The dogs normally get me up around 6am, so I think my plan is to run a mile a day. Nothing too taxing, but I think I'm more likely to actually do it if I'm not focussing on doing 5km. Will I get fitter though?

I run best about an hour after eating breakfast. I've tried running before breakfast and I felt dizzy. I've tried running after work and i'm too tired. This limits me to running weekends :ROFLMAO:

I’m loving this thread! I took up running about 2 months ago and love it so much but in the last few weeks I’m suffering REALLY badly with shin splints. It’s been ongoing on my right leg for 3 weeks now, the pain is bad like all day long and I miss running so much! I’ve been to the doctor a few times and have had X-ray and an MRI but nothing wrong so they said to keep icing it and resting but I’m getting so impatient 😭 does anybody have any tips for preventing them reoccurring when I can eventually run again?
I thought i had shin splints when I first started. I was given shoes that were no good. I went elsewhere, got his opinion and got better shoes.

Motivators tell you the step out of the door is the hardest one. I beg to differ and think the hardest is when I have just turned at halfway but I get what they mean. Getting started is half the battle. If you have to stop then stop. The important thing is to go consistently and go further each time if you can.

I haven't ran since the end of December and I am finding it so hard to motivate myself to get back out and do it, it's getting warmer and lighter so I've really got no excuse but I just seem to have some sort of mental block preventing me from doing it, even though I know I enjoy it!
I find it hard to get motivated to go but that feeling when it’s all done is fab and so worth it!!!

I was in the same boat: without Sarah Millican going, "well done, pet" in my ear I don't think I'd have managed to run for more than a minute at a time.

@pbontoast if it's gonna be your first time running, I recommend looking up good running posture. It can help prevent injuries and generally makes running a lot more pleasant.
I have Laura in my ear. Don’t think I could take Sarah Millican and the thought she is fitter than me!

Parkrun are making their decision today. I know it may depend on the June 14th announcement, but ut does look good.

My hope is that running will motivate me to do the other workouts. I've tried but I think not being in a gym environment just isn't the same and then I just get lazy and unmotivated. My plan is to run and then come home and do the workouts which I think will work.

a push up challenge sounds horrendous but go you. I should probably do one cause I have chopstick arms 😂
I'm not really feeling that safe about going out at the moment so I'm trying to maintain my fitness in the house... bike intervals are a killer! I personally hate the gym and having all those sweaty men around and people looking at you 😂 there's always that weird Gym Smell as well!

I have the flabbiest bingo wings going on so I'm trying to turn some of it into muscle. Also I have no boobs and apparently growing your pecs can increase your curves? I'm there honestly.

Can any one recommend a phone case for a iPhone 7plus? I’ve yet to find a arm case that fits my phone 😫 same with running belts not big enough for my brick of a phone! Thank you 😊
Just been on a early 2k run,

Now I don't want to advocate in any way for you doing damage to yourself, but I'm wondering is it that you're going too fast? Your chest shouldn't hurt from any sport as far as I know. Perhaps it's worth talking to a doctor?
Yeah I do struggle to slow down, I am quite tall and most of that is leg so running slowly is almost more of an effort. I did wonder if I had some sort of exercise induced asthma, but it only seems to happen with running. I'm fine with spinning, other cardio etc. I'm definitely not the fittest but I'm not hideously unfit either so I don't really know!

I get this when it’s cold outside - is it a muscular pain or a lung pain (if that makes any sense...?!)
It's a lung pain I think, it makes me cough for hours!

When I decided to start running I tried runnning round the block but stopped far too easily. C25k has given me the motivation to keep going but also provided a structure that I know others have done and been successful with. Particularly the first couple of weeks you know it is only a short time running. Knowing the voice will come kept me going. If it was left to me I would stop earlier.
