It builds you up in small increments. Increases the running slightly and slowly reduces the rest. Two 5 minutes and and an 8 minutes is 18 so 20 minutes is only running through one rest. It’s tricked your mind into thinking it’s easy. It’s probably like getting addicted to drugs, a bit here and there increasing over time until you can’t understand how you managed without itW5R1 completed - I don't know how the C25K program works, but it does!!
I dare say I enjoyed it this evening![]()
I've just got a cheap Karrimor headband which does the job for me. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Karrimor...-Hair-Band-Sports-Womens-Ladies-/164118381682I am exactly the same - the cold on my ears gives me a huge headache. If anyone has any tips, all the hats I own I'm afraid will fall off mid-run, I'd be grateful!! I've been looking for those thick headbands I see people wear that cover their ears, but I can't seem to find them myself
I avoid caffeine actually too, and take an Imodium before events/races…unfortunately one of those things for me!I make sure not to consume any dairy before my run - I'm not lactose intolerant.. until I run!
Brilliant!!!! It’s sometimes frustrating when things don’t go to plan but sometimes I get the best results on those runs!Well after all that, I got out and the pavements were really icyso I couldn't do the route I had planned. I did do 5.1km in 35mins
Last time I did a half, I lost 3 toenails completely, walking around Heathrow with bandaged up toes in flip flops I got some dodgy lookssorry this is funny, it is so grim, but we have all been there at some point!
Look into a running belt. I use a flip belt and because it's stretchy it can fit just about any phone.Ooh this is a good idea thanks! I actually have a very old lululemon bra with a pocket in the front - not sure why more bras don’t have that.
Omg you can definitely run slower! My easy runs are like 6:15/km pace whereas my 5km PB is 21min! Try keeping your HR under 150. Start out for just doing 10 minutes and then run at your normal pace and then just keep increasing that time. Also, what you can always do is run to a time (e.g. 40 Min at Max 150 HR) so you're less fixated on distance and pace. It'll feel sucky at first but you'll get used to it. Also a lower HR is better at burning fat if you're trying to loose some weight. Also easier running will help you get fitter faster and reduce the risk of injury, it's a win win win situation.Wow on the HR stuff. My resting rate is around 68BPM and average when I'm running is 176BPM. I'm 28, 5'6" and 156lbs (working on that number) don't think I could run any slower if I tried seeing as I average 32 mins on a 5k. Feel like I'm mega unfit now

I make sure not to consume any dairy before my run - I'm not lactose intolerant.. until I run!Sorry for too much information, but runners trots? Anyone got any advice please?
Ah no! Did you just have the one gait analysis? And new shoes? I had shin splints in September and barely moved for 2 months. Really put me off. But I also found that improving the shoes I wear at home [lockdown - wfh for 8 months now] has helped. I used to go about barefoot, which I love. But I found between getting birkenstocks, rather than nothing/slippers, and a new pair of running shoes has helped a lot too.I used to run 3 miles a day near enough every day. As I've got older and holding a few too many extra lbs, my body just cannot get back into it. I get horrific shin splits which are that painful I can barely walk. I tried Couch 2 5K but nothing would shift it. Not a gait analysis, not ice, not stretching, literally nothing.
Hopefully you can enter for 2022! I am equal parts excited and terrified. Most I've ever ran is 10k and that was the better part of a year ago.I was dreaming of park run this morningI miss it so much! Such a fab start to the weekend! I’m guessing not til after June!
Would love to run the great north run, is it a ballot for entry?
ETA ignore me I’ve just seen it’s the entrants from 2020 and already oversubscribed! Maybe 2022 then![]()
Well done! amazing work!Guys I did it!!!!!! 5k in under 30 minutes!!!!!
I know this isn’t that impressive but it’s a goal I’ve had for the past 2 years!!!!!
yes I unfortunately agree I have tried all the ‘tips’ online but nothing helps. I feel more self conscious in the gym than running but I do mainly embrace it now - it’s fun when i wear pink or red I look like one giant pink blob moving around haha. I do think generally other people don’t care though it’s in our heads isnt it - it’s a bit of a joke with my family how red I get haha they judge how red i return to determine how hard they think I’ve workedMe too. Unfortunately I think it is something we are cursed with. I can go out in the cold and still be beetroot, in the summer it’s even worse! I’m over weight to and it makes me soooo self conscious that people think I’m going to keel over haha. In the summer I carried a small bottle of face cooling spray on my bum bag! Helped a little in stopping my face feeling too hot!
It’s awful how easily you can lose strength isn’t it! Omg 150kg though that is so impressive - the squats and lunges I did were with no weight at allThis is what I’m worried about, before the first I was doing 150kg on the leg press and worried about the after effects of trying to get back up there now
Contrary to what I said up thread I have been and rejoined the gym this weekbut my god is it nice to be warm while I’m there! Been doing 5ks on the treadmill then stair master for 20 mins
It’s an inov8 trail shell, it was quite expensive but I haven’t taken it off since October so I think it was a good investment! I think the better jackets have less of a plastic bag effect, so it’s not too sweatyI went out this afternoon, it was so cold! I seem to run better in shorts (dunno what that's about). My husband said my thighs resembled sunburn they were so red
Started in the rain, but it didn't last the whole run.
What jacket have you got? I feel like I need one, but I'm worried I'll get too hot
Another thing i'm finding is my left foot seems to go numb, I think I'm clenching my toes while I run....?
That’s what I thought. This is where I miss the gym lol.I elected to stay inside and not go in the snow/ice just felt I was asking for an injury/getting too cold!
Great progress! And yes morning daylight makes such a difference! Can’t wait for those summer mornings where it’s actually warm. Honestly don’t think I’ve ever hated winter so much as this year in lockdown!Been out 3 times this week, 5k Monday and Tuesday, got my time down to 31:10, ran 5.75km today in just over 36 mins. Feel so much better for it, loving the fact it's light at 7.30 now!
