This thread is making me remember some people I'd really rather forget.

A few years ago a colleague of mine set me up on a blind date with a guy from her department at our work. Lots of ick ensued...

- he turned up wearing a dirty tshirt with holes in it.
- he immediately tried to hold my hand when we sat down at a table in the bar and kept asking if it was weird to hold my hand when I pulled it away.
- removed his beanie hat that he had been wearing the whole time and started lamenting how badly he was balding.
- volunteered apropos of nothing that he was a virgin until the previous year (I think he was around 31 at the time of our date. It's cool, but like.. why are you telling me this on our first date?).
- he slagged off his colleagues.
- described himself as a sapiophile.
- he got absolutely blind drunk very quickly, so this whole debacle only really lasted a few hours, but I had to put him in a taxi to send him home. The next day I got an absolute wall of text on What's App about how he can't remember much of what happened and that he would like another chance because that wasn't "the real" him.
- when I didn't respond to the What's App he tried to call me at my office at work, but luckily someone else took the phone and didn't put him through. I'm just happy he didn't come down to the department to look for me

I'm cringing so hard just writing this.. wtf was the person who set us up thinking?! She was very apologetic though which I guess is something.
Are you sure your colleague didn't set you up with Chris Ingham? 😂

I hate it when they say they play guitar. I just know they are going to get it out when you least want them to and they also have really rough tips of their fingers too.

I hate when they think you're not allowed to know more than them. 😡 One saw a bright star, asked me if I knew what it was. I said Venus. He was so upset that I knew and he couldn't educate me it ended in a row. Then he consoled himself by saying it was "beginners luck" couldn't accept that I just knew it.

Another said "good for you" after he asked me what I was studying. I hate that phrase, it's so condescending 😡😡😡😡

Another showed his violent side early on (thankfully) because I won a poker game. I don't even like poker, I was playing it for him. He threw his cards, his chips, and my drink across the room in front of my friends. I was so embarrassed I brought him over. I still cringe thinking about it. He tried to apologise but I don't give second chances to something like that... Always makes me weary that if this is him at the "polite" stage what will he be like at the "comfortable" stage?
this has reminded me of a guy I was speaking to once, he was 26 and I guess like a junior lawyer? He wasn’t quite qualified to be a lawyer yet but he still worked at a lawyer. Whenever we discussed anything law related and I knew the information, he’d like smack his lips together and say “very wise” in a really condescending tone. we went on one date and he ghosted me afterwards. He literally could be dead I’d have no idea.

I was once set up on a blind date - against my better judgement. The guy turned up and, being a polite person, I smiled at him.
Later on the evening he said: "When you first set eyes on me, your whole face lit up".
Serious ick. Can't be doing with that level of vanity.
No further dates.

I cringed reading that so I can’t imagine what it must have been like living it. what were you meant to do? Scowl at him?

I know.

Later he asked me if I liked Tom Selleck. Then I realised that he did bear a vague resemblance to him and that gave me even further ick.

I have many awful dating experiences...

I once had a (coffee) date with a man who turned up in a dirty fleece (sort of thing I'd wear to do the garden/ clean the car) and took it off to reveal a t shirt full of holes. He then overshared at length about his sexless marriage, his divorce, his subsequent relationship with a woman who may or may not have been born a man (and in graphic detail the reasons why he thought this). This was about a 30 minute conversation. If I could have left sooner I would. I still cringe thinking about it.

I also once went on a blind date (against my better judgment) with someone who was the height and build of a flat racing jockey. Perfectly pleasant guy, but shaking his hand was like shaking hands with an 8 year old.

Another one who said he was 6ft and muscular build. Turned up and he was 6ft but also about 4ft wide (looked like the bloke off The Chase). Said he did security but turned out his main 'job' was buying and selling tat on Ebay. Had an elastic bandage on his wrist that was all greyed and fraying which proper made me   Ick central.

I can't tell you the number of unsolicited fool pics I used to get sent. Nothing gives you the ick faster than seeing the erect (and always quite averagely sized) member of a man you've never even met!

Now I remembered another thing.

I reported back to the friend who set us up that I didn't want to see him again. She said; "He never seems to get along with intelligent women".

I replied:"But you said I was perfect for him".

LOL. You can go off people.

Invariably guitar players always have awful long fingernails too which I can't bear.
Long dirty fingernails is even worse though.

The fool pics are the worst. It must stem from them thinking their pen is something highly attractive and impressive that produces the essence of life. The videos are even worse. When they say your name while they are fiddling 'oh petits pois'
Once I got sent one where he turned around and bent over half way through, I turned it off. I still don't know what he did next.

I really don't understand the fool pics either. Does anyone? Luckily I've only ever received a few.

A guy that I went on ONE date with sent me a video of him masturbating out of the blue months and months after we had our one date. We hadn't even texted eachother since the date or anything. 😒 It was so unexpected and out of the blue that I actually screamed in shock! 😂

Haha I find DJs so sexy omg 😆
Oh no I agree!

However this lad would make mixes in his box room with his single bed and his mum would walk in to turn the boiler on/off, he was 25 😭

I have so many ick first date stories I will just have to drop one every now and then otherwise you’ll be reading this post for years 😂

Was speaking to a fella online for a couple of weeks and he said he’d love to meet up for a drink etc, he lived about an hour away on the train so he would come to me and meet me in town.

I was standing in the train station and he was half an hour late, I felt so embarrassed I was about to leave when he turned up - with his arm in a cast!?

His photos online were at least 5 years out of date, he had a hunchback, he was going bald and he had the SOFTEST voice ever it just made me so uncomfortable. (My boyfriend has the deepest, manliest voice it’s such a turn on 🤣)

His clothes looked older than his photos and he stayed for one drink before me making an excuse to leave and walked him to the train station. When we said our goodbyes he proper puckered his lips up for a snog 😭😭 like his lips were hanging and he pushed his head forward 😭

Few days went by and the messages were starting to dry up (on my part) and he started sending me photos of his skinny body saying that he just did 25 sit ups. I zoomed in on the photo and saw there was some sort of lotion on the sink for baldy men 🌝

He asked me if I would get the train to his for pasta bake and cuddles on the couch and in the end I had to put him out of his misery 😭

Long fingernails for sure. But one long fingernail, on their pinky? There’s only one reason for that. 👃 Ick.

Thought of another one. One guy when I was about 17 we’d known each other from school before he’d moved. Went to the cinema (thank god in the end!) so he gets on the bus that I’m on and he didn’t speak. Didn’t speak while we were walking around town. Didn’t speak before the film. He literally would just yes to what I was saying and sort of hmmm and nod. After the film I made my excuses and left. He then text me when I got home to say he’d had an amazing time and we could do it again!! I was sick of the sound of my own voice! Needless to say there was no second date, I texted him back a few days later and fizzled it out. Shy men are not endearing and not being able to read the signs is major ick for me. Read the room mate!!
