I put our new duvet cover on just a few mins ago, it was very exciting. It’s a brand called Bassetti, and we chose a satin-ish finish in a really nice dark blue, dark green, dark purple pattern. I love bedding! I used to buy everything Christy when I lived in England but moved abroad and can’t really get it now.

I am so glad this thread exists, merely so I can tell you about the silk duvets they flog on Ideal World late on ITV.

This guy that owns the company is the male version of Gloria Hunniford but 10 times as boring. OMG. The actual product sounds decent, but I'd never buy one out of spite. I don't want my money in this dull, dull man's pockets.


I mean, the info I could tell you on Mulberry Silk duvets, lol.

Are silk pillowcases just a marketing gimmick or legit??? And Is mulberry a type/grade of silk?

Also love the spite refusal to purchase .

I just need to share my twopenneth re: duvets.
1.) I have a superking size bed. We have a double and a kingsize duvet on it. Before that we were having full blown rows in the night over our share of the duvet.
2.) I have a thick duvet all year round. Wgen the weather gets hotter I simply adjust how much of my body is covered with the duvet e.g have my legs and arms poking out. Works a treat .

I have a 10.5 I use all year round. Not warm enough in the winter and too hot in the summer.

Maybe a wool duvet is for you? They do not have a tog, supposedly warm in winter and cool in summer. I have found I very good except summer, it is too warm for me. Mind you my 1 tog is too warm at the moment

Haven't used a heated blanket since I was a kid. No matter what the weather I have to get into a cold bed.

The teddy stuff really has been a game changer, I used to rely on (reassuringly expensive so it didn't go bobbly) brushed cotton which also needed ironing.

Id LOVE a weighted blanket.
I used to ( pre pandemic) be a super deep sleeper, mostly sleeping between 8 - 10 hrs a night, fast forward to now, I'm menopausal and its REALLY affecting my sleep, I have no problem falling asleep, its the staying asleep thats the hard bit.
I think a weighted blanket would really help, but there are so many on the market I wouldn't know where to start??

It's recommended to get one 10% of your body weight. So if you're 90kg, get a 9kg one

Not exactly a duvet q but does anyone have any mattress recommendations? Affordable but comfy please was gonna get an Emma but after seeing the reviews I think not

I have a wool mattress from John Lewis, would recommend the mattress (not cheap) but not JL's customer service which recently has managed to be simultaneously patronising and inefficient (not a good combo). All my other wool bedding recently has come from the Wool Room - again, might not be the cheapest option but they do have sales and they've been unfailingly lovely and helpful in the past, even though I've been buying their cheapest stuff on sale.

I use a 4.5 in the summer and 10.5 in the winter. Works perfectly for me!

I’ve got two that have poppers that go together in the winter, so I can have three different thicknesses

Only really ever use one cos I’m too lazy to get the other one out the loft, mind

Put one under your bottom sheet! It’s so cosy and readily available if you need it!

How often do you wash your duvet and do you have a light one for summer?

Yes 4.5 in the summer and normally about every 2 weeks and sheet weekly.

I’ve been using just this as a bedcover for the last few months. It’s light,really soft, easy to wash and dry (line or tumble) and just warm enough when you have a fan on in the bedroom. (See below for my pick) I didn’t have the M&S cover on during the heatwave but it’s the perfect transitional cover for spring and autumn. Wintertime I have a JL silk duvet which is thin but surprisingly heavy. Regulates temperature well.

I cannot recommend the Meaco air circulater fan high enough. It was wonderful when it was super hot, now I have it on lowest speed 1 on circulate mode in the bedroom and it’s really quiet but lovely and refreshing.

Have two- 13.5 for winter (Sept-April ). 4.5 for the rest.

Wash the duvet at the end of its “season” ready for the next year. Sometimes wash the big one at Christmas for Christmas fun. Need to take them to the laundrette as we have a tiny washing machine.

I love duvets. I love duvet covers. Get white. 100% cotton but not fussy about thread count.

You'd have to dig out the manual/google it to find the maximum load weight. You'd have to add water weight to whatever the blankets weigh in at too. (Sorry, no help at all really!)

We have a 2.5tog duvet from IKEA - absolutely love it. Stumbled across it by chance when looking for a cooler duvet for my little one who is a sweaty bod but loves to snuggle down.

It has a nice weight to it which I prefer but lovely and cool. I just use a blanket and/or heated blanket in the winter as Mr Beds is a hot bod too.

Weighted blanket wise I picked one up from the middle of Lidl and love it, though it’s been kicked off due to heat currently.

It's lovely to see other single duvet fans here, I always feel weirdly defensive about this.

Absolutely no reason to feel defensive about it. I'm a massive evangelist and it's 100% normal in Germany. The only thing I can't get on board with is having them folded on top of the bed like the Germans do. We have a bedspread that hides them, but it's not quite as neat or pretty as one duvet would be.

I switched to a 4.5 down duvet for Summer about 4 years ago and just never went back to my 13 tog Winter one.
In really hot weather I sleep under an empty duvet cover as I have to be covered to sleep.
I have a weighted blanket too, mine came with a washable cover and it does work but makes me very warm so can only use it in colder weather. It takes a bit of time to get used to it but would recommend them. Mine was a sale purchase on Amazon.

I have to have 100% cotton because of my husbands skin allergies. M&S really pissed me off recently as I bought a 100% cotton duvet set but had to take it back because when I noticed it didn't feel right. I washed it and out it on the bed and straight away my husband noticed it was irritating him. I looked closely at the label and it had some sort of stay new/easy iron technology added and it basically felt like it could have been polyester.

Ugh that is disappointing! So it's 100% cotton, but covered in some sort of plastic type thing

When ever anything fabric has some kind of label on it about new technology I get concerned

I'd like a weighted blanket, but dont like anything with polyester at all. And they all seem to be lined and filled with the stuff

I’m also curious about the weighted blanket thing, do they have washable covers?

My doesn’t, it weighs an absolute tonne lol
