A Girl - The Escape

A Girl is a 26 year old influencer from the U.K. with auburn hair, fake tan, blue eyes, smattering of freckles, likes to wear sun dresses, who dreams of living a fairy tale in a caste like chateau France. She works as an assistant manager for a hotel chain near the motorway flyover who wants to reinvent herself as a chatelaine of a fairy tale castle in France.

A’s vlog channel called Chateau Life v. Chateau Diaries.

A avidly watched shows like Chateau Rescue DIY. (remind you of Chateau DIY?)

A is happy and bubbly, and dreamed of being a princess in a castle, plays a damsel in distress constantly and is self centered, shallow, materialistic, lazy, selfish, thinks very highly of herself, entitled, indulged, etc. A would take off without thinking of anyone else and has done it many times before. Good at dodging questions, changing the subject, and deflecting attention to something else.

A speaks very little french to no french, boyfriend speaks no french.

A always had admirers, people bending over backwards, giving her things for free – because she’s pretty, because she’s mastered being the damsel in distress. She has avoided responsibility and accountability for her entire life and avoids anything that might cause her discomfort.

A was very spoilt by her parents, who bought her princess gowns and curtsied to her, promising her a fairy tale. She always wanted a fairytale castle and to be a chatelaine. It was her dream. “Fairy-tale” is mentioned a dozen times in the book.

A has an older sister, Erin, who is a nurse. Their elderly mother was ill with cancer. Their Dad left them a long time ago to begin a new family with another woman. Hmmmmmm...

A was always self-centered but got much worse after she achieved some youtube success (with one million subscribers with thousands of views per video), constantly documenting of every thing she does, revealing intimate details about herself, using people for content, selfishly excessively spending money like water,

Vlogging brought out the nastiest traits in her. She was documenting a fake, pretend life and not being honest about anything she is vlogging.She doesn’t care if her vlogs are not truthful.A fake cries to influence viewers and is offended that anyone would think she would fake crying on a video.

A hates to spend money on heating, either in the U.K at her apartment or in the French chateau because she was trying to save money. Both the UK apartment and the chateau are freezing cold.

she and boyfriend signed a NDA about the sale of chateau, contract, etc.

Jack (A’s boyfriend of 8+ years)
Eight years together and he still refuses to get married

He is a untruthworthy people pleaser with unwashed black hair is lying flat to his scalp, who is slick and has many affairs and hookups during relationship with A. He is a sleaze ball, lazy, cheating on his girlfriend, and secretly takes a job for the bad guys installing video cameras all over the chateau.( which ex boyfriend of Fanny makes money with a camera?)

She gets Jack to move to France because he could figure out what he wanted to do in life, set up a workshop so he could try carpentry. Hmmmmm. Like Cuz Anne Marie?

A pretends Jack is the best boyfriend on videos. Jack got up early for me. Best boyfriend
ever. Jack brought me coffee. Amps up the relationship on the vlog: We are a LOVE STORY, we are SO HAPPY, like a fairytale. We are FALLING IN LOVE with the chateau and with each other more and more each day. (Meanwhile, Jack is screwing around at the town pub, which is described exactly like the pub with the 70's vibe in the village near LieLande where Fanny has filmed videos.)

Chateau Ballay, the grifted chateau given for free to A and boyfriend Jack
A scrolled thru French real estate website looking for a chateau that she desired and wanted a ballroom, a grand staircase, outdoor pool, and a sweeping estate.

A finds Chateau Bellay, located in moved to the remote Côte Chalonnaise wine region

It has high ceilings, wood paneled rooms a pool, a grande entrance hall and staircase. (All of the things that Fanny desired at LieLande but does not have).

A references garden parties with lanterns and hammocks strung up between fruit trees. (Weren’t there photos of Fanny with Tess and others in this type of setting)

Description of Chateau Ballay:
Perfectly proportioned – as tall as it’s wide. Built from limestone the colour of butter with granite rimming the windows like smoky eyeliner. There are sage-green shutters (instead of blue shutters), a Juliet balcony wrapping around the upstairs room.

The roof is spiked with hooded windows, pointy like witches’ hats. The courtyard has a fountain in the middle.

Chateau Bellay is a seventeenth-century manor house in southern Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise wine region. (I believe this is a couple hours away from Lie Lande).
The tower in the book doesn’t lead to A’s bedroom.

The walls and floors of Chateau Ballay were uneven. This could generate a sensation that the chateau is moving, with the walls and floors moving like a ride at an amusement park. (Hello.... not so grand salon walls, upstairs walls and floors at the Dump that were “catasrophically collapsing” last year at this time).

The sister who entered the chateau couldn’t feel her hands because it was freezing inside the chateau.

A decorated the main rooms with holly and mistletoe that she got “from the garden.”

The chateau has lemon-yellow curtains tied back with silk tassels (hello fanny and phi phi with his silk tassels) add a homely feel and a tapestry (hello isabelle tapestry) hung across the length of one wall.

Walnut-panelled walls and biscuit-coloured parquet floor. There’s a long oval dining table in the centre and a piano to one side, beneath a solid gold-framed painting of a hunting.

What are they escaping from?

Here is a brief, very sketchy outline of a few parts of the plot of The Escape relating to A:

Adele (aka A from this point on), is a 26 year old wannabe vlogger who wants a French chateau but has no money. She decides to crowdfund for a chateau (shades of Dan’s original crispy chateau gofundme, Selmar’s gofundme, etc.), claiming to want to run a B and B, have a garden, and renovate a chateau, and doing a youtube channel about it all. A mystery man contacts her and offer to buy her a chateau in France for her and her boyfriend, just because he saw her plea and wants to help her. The idiot couple is excited and wants the chateau. It is FREE! WHEEEEE! She is fired from her job as an assistant hotel manager when they learn of her crowdfunding/go fund me ebegging plot.

The chateau comes with conditions. It will be deeded in their names, they can vlog the chateau, but they cannot have any visitors, cannot run a B and B, and must put one room aside for the benefactor funding the chateau. If they violate these rules, they have to forfeit the chateau. The benefactor will give them money to run the chateau until their vlogging numbers increase. They are encouraged to vlog the chateau. The 2 morons immediately agree and move to France.

They get to the french chateau and start vlogging. The local townspeople do not like them. A’s only friend is a strange “sweet girl” who works at the local boulangerie. Jack hangs out at the local pub and explores the chateau, going through discarded things left in the chateau. A ends up with a million subscribers, a few of which are obsessed with her inviting, cheery nature.

The benefactor wants the chateau for one or two nights to throw a ball and wants the couple to move out their clutter and stay in a B and B. A is mad because she wasn’t invited to the ball to be held at “her chateau.” The benefactor is part of an eyes wide shut type of group of elites who sexually abuse and torture young women, engage in sadistic sexual practices, etc. (This is a big part of the second half of the book and I will not go into any more details about the eyes wide shut plot and there is a lot more to this part of the story that I won’t go into here). A goes missing and her nurse sister goes to find her and make her come back to the UK to see her mother dying of cancer.

A went to the chateau anyways, breaks her ankle, and is rescued by her stalker like bakery friend, who drugs her and keeps her in a dungeon/cellar type of room until her nurse sister Erin is able to rescue her. The bakery friend wants to be A and wants to co host her Chateau youtube channel with her. Jack meets an untimely demise at the chateau.

I will say it again . . . you are a very good friend Ms McKitten.

As for Ruthy Writer, she is taking inspiration from all over the place.
I've heard it said that writers are encouraged to write from experience . . . I could very well believe Ruth would not have to use a lot of imagination but could draw from personal experiences at the dump.

A FIRED FROM HER JOB AS AN ASSISTANT HOTEL MANAGER
Cara, her boss at the hotel, never liked her and always dismissed her interior design ideas and did not like A’s vlog or vlogging. Cara fired her.

This is where it gets interesting, in the last reference to her boss that fired her, boss Cara is suddenly referred to as Clara. Hmmmmmm.....

.....half expecting Clara to have already sent her the P45. (Why did the name of the boss who fired A change from Cara to Clara? Hmmmmm).

The solicitor who contacted her about the chateau arrangement from the sketchy benefactor was a Solicitor and partner at Gerald and Sons 45 New Bond Street London W1.

Delphine - the crazed fan stalker. (Fun fact, a nickname for Delphine is FiFi, hmmmmmm........)

Delphine is described as a “sweet girl” who works as the local boulangerie and described as a person she would not normally associate with/ hang out with in England. If phi phi “sweet”? This is A’s only friend. Fifi considers A to be her “best friend.”

Delphine wants to take over A’s youtube channel and co- host with A. FiFi showed up in the cellar where A is being held captive by FiFi wearing A’s favorite yellow dress with daisies on it. Fifi had already rehearsed a video outline that A isn’t feeling well so Fifi is taking over the channel until A gets better and A sends love and kisses (or something to that effect).

A vlogging after she gets the grifted free chateau ballay:
opens vlogs with “hi lovelies,” gives a weather reports, repeated trips to town to get croissants. Ends videos by blowing kisses and telling viewers how much she LOVES, LOVE, LOVES living at the chateau.

loves to sqeal, jump, clap her hands and wave her hands around like jazz hands.
overly gushing, quivering fake voice, everything is adorbs, like a fairy tale, magical, she loves all the viewers so much!Like and subscribe!!!

apologizes to her lovelies for not posting videos, then claims they have been super buay and have another exciting discovery about the chateau. Talks about secret projects, finding the original plans to the chateau.

I just looked up her background again in the book. They gave a brief background. Delphine Ramousse likes to smoke pot, her mother was an addict, and she assaulted the partner of her ex.She is a master baker at the local boulangerie.

There was a very tragic accident at Lalande and one of the heating people died. Stephanie being the kind person she is left it up to the heating people when they are able to come back to work. She wanted them to have time to grieve and then regroup.
