I have adhd - and autism - and I was suicidal at 13 due to bullying. I knew exactly what it meant and the implications of attempting. My youngest son, who is autistic, was suicidal at age 9 due to bullying and we had to get him to a private psychiatrist very quickly. Neurodiverse people aren't stupid, we know what being suicidal means, even if it's impulsive.

TikTok does ban a lot of kids.. My own daughter (12) and her friends have been banned multiple times but they always find a way around it and make new accounts. I monitor hers but it’s hard because social media is all they know these days.

I have a close family member who sadly attempted suicide at 13. Thankfully he was not successful so it does happen.

Sadly I don’t think Archie was an accident. It’s tragic.

Another point I want to make and it may be controversial but I fully believe this.

I believe that Mental Health has been glorified(if you will) in the last few years. We are raising a nation of wimps with this “it’s okay not to be okay” mantra. When it stop being not okay to not be okay? There was a fine line in my opinion but we steam rolled right past it and now we have kids seeing on social media and in school all this mental health chat and it starts planting a seed in their brains. And we wonder why more and more kids are committing suicide.

I’m probably not making sense(my simple ADHD brain🙄) but my point is that we are not shielding kids from stuff 10 years ago wasn’t spoken about to them.

In the parental controls you can stop them from downloading apps.

I think some people forget 12 year olds today aren’t like us when we were 12. Children are exposed to things we weren’t at those ages and are pretty aware of more from an earlier age

Actually I agree with that to a degree. And I have a mental health illness and awaiting on a autism diagnosis. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have conversations about it but sometimes yeah I do see some people glorifying it and it makes me very uncomfortable.

Kids also just shouldn't have unfettered access to social media etc. I completely understand that it is really difficult to monitor when all the other kids are on it etc, but it has to be done.

This is total balls. My life would have panned out very differently if mental health was openly discussed and treated from a young age. You're not a wimp if you have poor mental health.

I expect archie was quite streetwise and would have known perfectly well what suicide was.

It’s subjective, because we are telling ALL kids the same thing. Not the kids who really need the help.
