My sympathy lies with the staff who will be traumatised by all this. Only a certain type of personality can shrug stuff like this off. Most people can't, no matter how well trained and professional they are.

I hope cases like this don't increase due to the increases in numbers of the hard of thinking in our population. The courts need to examine how they can address these issues in a more timely manner. Being forced to lie brain dead for four months just isn't on.

I do wonder what the solution really is as the courts seem to work fairly quick, the delay here was more caused by the first judge not following legal precedent/procedure

I'm not entirely sure that kicking it straight to the Supreme Court or Court of Appeal would solve anything either tbh

No they made a request just whilst they review the case. But the UK don’t have to comply. It was the Christian centre that used the word injunction and the media rolled with it. The actual letter is attached.

Seems like she’s the sort of person who doubles down then doubles down more. She’s like a perpetual Fibonacci spiral of self destructive denial.

These sort of personalities have no scope for reflection, no openness to nuances. Her rigidity in her own ‘them and us’ narrative is so entrenched and, to be honest, she doesn’t seem to have the intellectual capacity to change that.

I’ve met folk like her before. There’s certainly a socio-economic aspect to it and the lack of critical thinking skills can be seen to the nth degree with her and her ‘army’.

H is the type of woman you’d not want to get on the wrong side of if you lived locally to her. Her rigidity in her own world view cannot be challenged (and any, even gentle, suggestion that she is mistaken is met with anger).

I really believe that critical thinking skills should be pushed more from an earlier age. Curiosity should be welcomed and changing your viewpoint (when presented with more facts) should be the norm.

This whole ‘Archie’s a fighter’, ‘loyalty’, ‘we always know best’ rigid belief/moralistic framework Hollie and her army/peers have is damaging and divisive and reflects a massive problem with the general population today.

There’s evidence to suggest that people who can change their minds/stances are more intelligent than the rigid thinking loyalty mongers (that’s evidenced by situations like this).

Previous posters have added that doctors and those that work in medicine don’t like to state absolutes but have clearly stated (with multiple sources) that Archie has no brain function and no hope of consciousness. The 1% Hollie and her gang have latched on to is in reference to past adult patients whose ‘recovery’ was, at best, to a vegetative state. And even that, I believe, was from only one clinician earlier on in Archie’s admittance to hospital.

But even with ALL the evidence presented to Hollie et al her rigidity in thinking and ‘fighting’ narrative, combined with being a bit thick and being surrounded by thick family and friends, she refuses to listen to the experts.

This sums up exactly what I wanted to say.

I can't begin to imagine how stressful it is for people to be essentially nursing and caring for a dead body.
I also agree that issues need to be examined that have arisen, both from this case and previous high profile cases.

The media need to look at their standards too. It's not right to 'interview' someone and basically allow them free rein to spout stuff without even attempting to balance it. They play a big part in encouraging these stupid people who form these 'armies' by allowing this to happen, imo.

As I said upthread who knows what damage is being done by allowing statements along the lines of 'the hospital/ judges want to kill him.'

Imagine that sort of statement being left unchecked.
Imagine a young or otherwise impressionable person listening to or reading that.

Amen to this - the amount of people in AA who say they won't read papers from the court judgements because they're "pro death" or "lies".

If you're so confident in your beliefs you should be able to read opposing views and explain why they're wrong or not credible, not be scared of them.

The amount of disinformation I had to sift through during the pandemic was ridiculous, but AFIA I didn't come out brainwashed....

Ah,I see.Yes the Independent are reporting,that there is an injunction.So much media misinformation around.I wonder how her older son and her daughter,are doing?I hope they are getting the right support.

I think some people spend their lives being angry at everything. It's almost like a default button.The people who constantly think that the world is out to get them.I would guess that is the type of person Hollie is.She hasn't been shut down because she has a load of people backing her up .She has media reporting,with the words,'coma' 'brain damaged'.She has T.V presenters,eating up every word she is saying. I think she must be so mentally unstable. If it is believed,she has spent the majority of the time,in that room,probably not sleeping properly,I would imagine,feeling she has to watch how her son is being treated and ready to pounce.She is probably talking to Archie,stroking his hair and I don't think to Hollie,that he is dead.She has clung to anything and everything because she has been enabled to.

Some women on the army page has said that the same hospital saved her son from aggressive cancer but this has now tarred them and her memories of them and she’s only 10 stops away on the train and will go down there

I couldn’t agree more with this. We need to be teaching kids/teens not to believe everything at face value, to use reliable sources and understand that sometimes you might be wrong and that it’s ok to change your mind. This kind of stuff only really comes up post GCSE level of education(well it did for me anyway) which is why most people in these armies will be people who left school at 16 or didn’t do college courses where you learn about critical thinking and haven’t lived a life where they have had to learn it.

These types of people are endlessly ungrateful and often can't even be passably polite. They treat staff like domestic servants and love picking up on even insignificant things in order to get staff into trouble. They revel in their tyranny. They're a social menace with their aggression and hostility.

No amount of critical thinking will stop this sort of stuff though. We've seen how easy it is for conspiracy theorists to say "well this source isn't trustworthy because they're connected to/are x or y" just because they want to believe something

It's the very same stuff here. The NHS Trust/doctors can't be believed or trusted because they're part of that community and are lying to the courts. The courts or judges don't have your best interest in mind because they have a history of making those same decisions

Im also aware that (understandably) nobody trusts GoFundMe and strangers - is there a better alternative? Or a way of using GoFundMe and proving to people that I’m not a grifter/raving scam artist?

It's best to just donate to hospital funds set up to help staff with support, training and education. If you contact the hospital they'll guide you on this. Staff can't accept Go Fund me cash. Quite a few wards will accept donations made in the name of the ward or department too. They use them to buy good coffee machines and stuff like that.

Yeah I know how hospital trust charities work, and I know they’re very good at channeling donations to exactly where they want them to go which is why I plan to donate directly to the ward.
Speaking as someone in that line of work, I bet the last thing staff want right now is education and training - more like a large bloody gin, or ten, and some bloody good counselling/debrief sessions.
