Yeah I’m always a little suspicious of cases where people announce they made a miraculous recovery, drs informed them they wouldn’t survive, they beat the odds etc… In healthcare we have to be blunt and give people the cold hard facts, say that it is a devastating injury and there is a CHANCE of death etc, but you don’t just go around declaring people as brain stem dead for the fun of it. It’s a legal, well practised procedure. Unless there is hospital produced, medical, documented evidence that this person was pronounced brain stem dead and then suddenly wasn’t then I don’t buy it. Sorry. (Also to add, this applies to people who say “I was clinically dead for 20 minutes”). #NursingHasMadeMeABitch. Done.

We would still reposition and he would have a special airflow mattress. He wouldn't be able to feel any pressure ulcers anyway bless him but we would still do it as it looks unsightly. Hollie would be quick to scream neglect as well . Pressure ulcers on someone so thin would get very deep very quickly. Repositioning is not painful for the person even if they can feel. We use pillows and do it as gently as we can.
Right, she’s annoying me now. I’m done feeling sorry for this woman. Most likely, every single one of us on this thread has lost a loved one. We‘ve had to accept that they won’t continue with treatment, won’t give another round of chemo, won’t resuscitate, etc. It’s painful and we have to accept reality.
Why does the duck does this Hollie bird thinks she’s any different or special that her child has the right to forgo the natural process of life?? They need to shut her down asap. Next time a parent finds their child hanging, they’ll use her arguments to demand their child is kept indefinitely on life support. Is this the future? You can’t accept death so you essentially force the hospital to keep your loved one ‘hooked up’ until YOU‘RE ready to accept the inevitable? It’s bleeping insanity.
My immediate solution for Hollie (not Archie, ’cause this has duck all to do with him) is that they allow her to take him. Take him, you’ve got the go fund me cash, so take him. Sort it out yourself. The NHS is killing him, so you have a go Hollie. Get the Facebook huns to rub lemon on his feet, smear Nutella on his mouth, stick leeches to his body. Go for it. Then you can’t rock up on This Morning claiming they want him dead.

Yep was going to say this. Not repositioning would be neglectful. Could probably push to 4hrly instead of the standard 2hrly though.
Also earlier someone asked if his heart could stop naturally despite the efforts that are being done to keep him artificially going. (Not a stupid question!). Answer is yes, very much so. I’d be intrigued as to what his treatment escalation plan is, obviously he has a DNAR but I wonder if he’s for abx, fluid resus, further inotropes (often a ceiling is placed), etc. Because if someone begins crashing and family aren’t in the room and they have a DNAR there, we throw everything at them until family arrive and then stop. Unless of course the escalation plan states the above. So just thinking of the sad scenario where Hollie isn’t present and the bedside nurse can’t delay Archie’s final moment. She’d kick herself. But it’s be who’s fault?!
I was also about to answer the turning question. Although not a nurse I do give end of life care and we definitely still reposition even on air flow mattresses. Un-gradable pressure sores are no joke, aren’t just traumatic for the person who has one they’re hard to look at and treat too. Honestly unforgettable

And yes they do want his death speeded along which is precisely what they’ve been battling for in court for 3 months. I don’t see how stating undisputed facts makes me “sound like Hollie”.

A month after he was hospitalised. After the lies she’s told it’s hard to not question everything she claims but is that too far of a stretch? The only reason I can think to make it up is to justify using the GFM for a puppy

I work for the nhs on a dementia ward. I couldn't imagine having to come in to work everyday and care for a child you know passed months ago. That will eventually take it's toll on the staff, knowing there is nothing more they can do but remaining dignified and professional because the family believe he has a chance. They are keeping a dead body artificially alive because the parents can't bare to say goodbye, putting up with abuse from the family and the AA, being secretly filmed and your care being scrutinised all over social media. Is there anything that can be done if the family filmed the healthcare professionals? Breach of confidentiality or something? As mentioned, and I know it's a completely different scenario, I work with dementia patients and I see the toll it takes on the person and their relatives, I'm sorry if this upsets anyone but if I had dementia and became very unwell and ended up needing to go to ITU, ive told my family please put me on a DNR, please dont keep me in a vegetative state, please stop all food and fluids but make sure im comfortable and pain free. If I have no quality of life, I don't want them keeping me alive for their benefit. Ive had a lot of hospital procedures, spent most of my life on various medications and pain relief, attended countless hospital appointments etc... ive just had enough and dont want to be kept alive to continue going through that.I think if I was a staff member there I'd be handing my notice in.
I suppose at least the money will keep coming in now
