Block up your letter box? :ROFLMAO: There isn't much you can do. I mean you could send them back to the companies in an envelope without a stamp, but thats effort for you and they won't know where it came from.

We get a few leaflets pretty much everyday, I just pick them up and bin them. Takes about 3 seconds.
Am just tired of the amount we get, for what we get in a month is ridiculous an I shouldn't have to waste the space in my bin for all that tit especially when at times my bin is full an if they bring in the charging £50 to empty it like other towns then I'll want to limit how much I need it emptied

What councils are charging £50 to empty your bins? I am sure that is not a thing. They charge a one off to upgrade your bin to a bigger one but not to collect the one you have.

If it is that big a deal then collect them up and put in a public bin or take them to the tip or request and pay for a bigger bin. Or you could burn them?

🤣 burn it? Throw them in a public bin when you are out? Bag the paper up and when the bag is full take it to your local recycling place?

Town next to us that family live in get charged £50 to empty their green an brown bins

It's being tested with them to see if it works in the hopes people are more sensible with recycling, it's ridiculous the amount of bins we have, I've 6 out back an even if one wrong thing is in the bin they refuse to lift it

We also have to pay for 6 month of the year for the brown bin to be emptied because its a "seasonal" thing an they won't empty it at all over winter

Has anyone ever took action in stopping junk mail? I have a sign on my door but it's clearly not working, am tired of the endless junk an charity bags being posted, it just takes room up in the bins an they are only emptied once a month, I know for some that it's no problem just to dump it in bins but am literally getting up to 10 junk mail items per day every day here, its beyond a joke now
Put a Beware of the dog sign on your gate lol.

Right, I'm not that's a real thing but ok. If you have so many bins, they shouldn't all be full. We have two (not including the garden) and get fortnightly collections and they are never full. Are you putting stuff in the right bin to spread it out?

You don't have to pay for your brown bin, its an extra. It all depends who collects the garden waste, ours gets done by Biffa so we get a collection 50 weeks a year but my old council only did them April to October.

Of course my family must be just making it up then 🙄🙄 yes we do pay an no there's no "extras" here our council unfortunately works on greed so yes I am left paying for bins to be emptied, an yes I put things in the right bin, they are just ridiculous slim an I am certainly paying no £100 for bigger sizes, an some houses here don't even get the bins free, the persimmon houses had to pay for theirs at the end of my street

Only council homes get stuff free here

What on earth have you got 6 bins for?

- green bin (general waste/non recycling)
-blue bin (recycling)
-(brown bin) seasonal for grass/garden waste

what else have you got?

if it’s so much of an issue, get a small garden incinerator from B&Q or B&M for £20 and just burn your paper/cardboard instead of using a bin?

Which council area do you live in??? If you have 6 bins, im struggling to understand how you’ve got so much waste you can’t find a place for?!

You can’t possibly be filling your blue bin then? If you are separating everything out.
Just burn it. Everyone gets junk mail through the letter box - we all have to get rid of it! Bin it, burn it, Chuck it in a black bag with general waste if you must.

Garden waste bins are not force upon anyone, because not everyone has a garden and they are charged separately from your council tax. It’s an optional extra.

The slim bins are 120litres, you cannot be filling 720litres of waste a week and don’t have room for some junk mail surely?!

Usually councils only issue recycling bins for free, waste you have to pay for. Especially new builds. I spend way to much time dealing with this in my day job, it worries me how much I know about it all.

Your council isn't everyone else's though. We used to get our garden waste taken for free ( I say free but council tax) until two years ago and now we have to pay extra. My friend who lives a 2 minute's walk away in the next county gets her's taken for free. we get our three bins for free

Why is it people pay more and more for fewer and fewer services?

But what I am saying is you don’t HAVE to pay for the garden bin, if you don’t want to pay don’t have it. It isn’t forced upon you as a bill, it’s optional, you can opt out.

Too add, I wasn’t actually talking about my council specifically. I deal with a large number of different councils in my job, generally bins are only now free if for recycling. Waste replacements are charged even for new builds.

I don’t even understand why this junk Mail thing is even an issue…..! Surely we all get random crap pushed through the letter box - don’t we all just throw it in the bin? Job done. Or collect a pile along with old bank statements, doctors letters, catalogs, etc and just burn it. I’ve never known anyone to have such an issue with a few takeaway menus coming through the letter box!!

We only get 3 bins ,a blue a black and a brown all emptied for free .I've even got an illegal black bin so put out two sometimes i'd hate to have to pay to have them emptied.

I hate junk mail with a passion. If I don't want it why on earth should I have to deal with it? A notice on the door asking people not to put it through the letterbox should be enough. I would also say that if I have a notice then a postman should also abide by it. Why should I have to jump through hoops so that the postman doesn't keep posting crap through my letter box? I did fill in all the forms and still, it kept coming.

While we all just pick it up and bin it, companies will just keep sending it. if a notice on our doors asking them to stop means the postie takes it back and returns it to them, they will then see how many people don't want their crap. , in a time when we have it drilled into us about wasting resources, we should be able to refuse it if we want to. as it is we have no choice

If you want the crap, that's fine you can still receive it many of us don't

Isn't junk mail just one of life's little inconveniences? Yes, it's annoying, but very quickly resolved if you just put it in the bin and forget about it. I don't think it's worth getting wound up over.

Just to jump in re the junk mail, a member of my family is a postie and believe me he hates having to lug it around on his route with his regular mail as much as we all hate receiving it. Unfortunately “door to door” as they call it make up a huge part of RM revenue (around 30%) and if he was seen to be not posting it because of a sign left about not receiving junk mail he could lose his job. They are specifically told to ignore them. Just wanted to clarify that it really isn’t your postman being difficult, it’s the powers that be unfortunately.
