Anyone have a Hume Band 2.0? I left my whoop in the gym, it was stolen and I want to replace it with something without a subscription but wanted honest feedback

It’s not exactly a problem as such, but I’m currently on maternity leave and we’d like to try for another baby relatively soon. Is it career death to have a very short break between leaves?! I’d go back to make sure I qualify for my 90% SMP properly.

On one hand I fear it is; on the other hand, I know I shouldn’t plan my family around my job.

I dunno how helpful this is but I am freshly back to work after mat leave and I just feel very differently about my career now! I’m glad to be working again, though I changed organisations and went for a part time role. But I used to absolutely throw myself headlong at my job, now I’m a bit more ‘eh’ about it. I care, I’ll be giving it my all, but it won’t be consuming me like it used to. Might there be career death if you have two children quite close together? I mean, legally there shouldn’t be! It might be a little more challenging to feel really connected and in the loop with a couple of long work absences but that’s what having a good plan around staying connected and doing KIT days is all about. But ultimately, you might find you aren’t actually that bothered. Sure, you might need the job/a job for financial reasons and/or to stop you going mad (it’s both for me!), but you might find you’re not that bothered about throwing yourself headlong up a career ladder anymore (and if you do, that’s totally ok too! Plenty of people balance big careers with families!). I was at the top level of my sector for the last two roles I did and it was tit. I’ve popped back down a couple of levels in this job and it’s great, it would take a lot for me to put myself through that ever again.

How do people handle stress? I feel stressed with work, I feel stressed with my family (family drama 🤪), I feel stressed with the state of the world! I am stressed!! I’ve never been stoned but I’m tempted to get stoned to chill out!

And I go see a therapist now and again but I don’t think talking will help!

I run a lot of long distance. Do I like running? Not particularly, but it’s cheaper than therapy and does clear the head 🤪🤣

I try not to get involved in drama and make a conscious effort to step back as most things are other people’s doing and other people trying to get me to either take their side or do their bidding. I also stopped looking at the news apart from a quick scan which really helped.
Work stress is hard though…

I’ve taken a step back from the family drama, but it involves my sister who I don’t speak too and neither does my mum, who unfortunately still has to work with her 😭 so my mum uses me as a sounding board & to help with her current bullying she’s experiencing. It’s messy.

I’ve definitely stopped reading, listening, watching the news!

I don't read, listen or watch news, have found that just switching off from the world has been great (can't do anything about it anyway so why watch what I can't fix) also let family know am here if they need but am not their personal therapist or assistant

Also I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but video games is a huge stress relief for me, even if I don't want to "play" as such just blasting a few things with a rocket launcher on GTA does wonders 😅

I'll also mindlessly doddle or colour, just anything I can switch off from, have also deleted about all my social media so am not mindlessly scrolling (insta was so bad for that)

Spending time outside, even when raining or cold. Also exercise is fantastic for stress relief. Journalling to get some feelings out.
Also if the news is stressing you out then stop watching it for a a week.

I’m terrible at not being stressed but I do like a bath or a self care evening (everything shower, face mask, paint toenails, whatever floats your boat really), getting out for a walk if the weather is nice (meaning anything other than pissing with rain really! A crisp cold autumn day is the best!). Maybe I’ll bake a favourite thing, do some gardening, have a hot chocolate and read a book.

Then had a baby 😆 so most of them got a bit harder but we do what we can!

Meds! Lots and lots of meds 💕

But also, reading, getting absorbed in another world and forgetting about my own for a while.

When my mind is too buzzy to read, then a comforting cosy tv show like Bake Off where I don’t notice the time passing.

And unfortunately, retail therapy. I love picking up little treats for friends and I’m a divil for online shopping.

Reading, doing Zen Word on my phone, watching a film, journaling.
Don’t get stoned, it might make you feel worse.

What activity do you get completely absorbed in? For me its sewing, my sister runs, another sister does meditation, but it could be gardening, knitting or crochet, writing, woodworking if you like creative stuff, swimming, walking, running, pilates or yoga if physical exercise appeals, or cooking or baking,

I cook! Spotify on whilst making something from nothing makes me relax. I also get out for walks with a coffee - I dont know why but holding a coffee whilst pushing a pram just makes me so relaxed. I write down whats stressing me out, if its out of my control i cross it off. The visual helps me. If I can control it, i do so immediately - I've occasionally sent my family a text telling them to behave 😂 i also enjoy stroll around a food shop i like, picking up a few nice bits.

I'm quite stressed at the moment with my oldest and his behaviour at school. He seems to be testing boundaries and he is certainly testing my blood pressure so our waistlines are expanding dramatically!!!

Also, being around the sea. The weather isn't for it right now but walking along the beach, listening to the waves is very calming
