Thank you @OnlyHereForTheLolz and @Pesky Tarian. Very helpful and good to know for the future.

I changed my flights to another date but had to pay a change fee extra. However, the hotel very kindly canceled my booking free of charge.

I’ve now been stuck in my apartment with this loud motor noise taking over the entire place (I can’t even hear my TV). It’s been 15 hours of this noise - I’m about to lose it. I couldn’t even sleep last night because the utility room is right next to my bedroom. It’s like being in a loud factory or construction site. If it doesn’t get sorted today, I’m going to have to stay elsewhere because the noise is far too much.

The maintenance doesn’t seem to be in a rush to get this fixed. The landlord responded to me at 9am saying they’d send someone. No trace of anyone as of now. Really hope this gets resolved soon.
Can you turn the power off to the pump?

Can you turn the power off to the pump?
I honestly don’t know where it’s located. All I can see is a bunch of wires, pipes and the pump. I don’t think there’s a switch anywhere. The pump is directly linked to the boiler.

Given this apartment has had multiple plumbing issues in the past, I’d rather not try and venture into the unknown in case I create a bigger issue. I don’t want this to become my liability.

I’ve never had Christmas lights on the outside of my house before, I feel silly for asking this but how do you attach them? I’m looking at decorating our porch but don’t want to damage the paintwork

Google "command Christmas light hangers" or "outdoor light hangers" - there are ones that hook onto gutters and all sorts.

We just use little hooks for ours, wrap the wire round it an it's fine, I think they are called gutter hooks

I've used gutter hooks and cable ties.
Also some mince pies and beer for the window cleaner, I'm not good with heights and ladders 😁

Hoping someone here knows the name of a backpack/handbag/purse brand…

I got a colleague for secret Santa in work and I know there’s a specific brand that she likes. She showed it to me one day and I remember thinking ‘should bookmark that in case I get her for secret Santa’ but obviously I didn’t so here I am!

I’m in my late 20s and remember this brand being around during my primary/secondary school days. It has very distinct branding, with black and purple tones and possible some sort of trees or cherry blossoms on? I am pretty sure it has a black haired young girl on it also, I’d consider it a kind of manga/anime inspired brand. They do backpacks, handbags, purses, pencil cases, coin pouches…. It’s the kind of thing I think would have been in Claire’s Accessories back in the day.

I’ve spent ages googling tonight but can’t find anything, I can almost picture it in my brain, I know once I see it I’ll recognise it….

The black haired girl made me think of Emily the Strange which I remember from when I was younger - but not sure about the trees! Just had to have a Google sesh myself as the name was bugging me!

Could it have been a kokeshi doll design on a bag??

Tattlers I need your advice…

a few of my friends are about to have their first babies and I want to get them gifts.

a lot of the gift sets going feel very generic and samey?

what gifts did you guys *actually* enjoy/use when you had your babies?

they live a fair distance away so I’m not going to be able to pop round and help with dishes, unfortunately!

Maybe a nice swaddle blanket?, you can buy them cut to shape if that makes sense. That was something I used a lot. What I will say is that if you can stretch include a present for mum (everyone forgets the mums). Box of fave chocs, something pampery.

I'd have really appreciated something for when baby was older, you get so much stuff for newborn age, it's nice to have something for the future. I was quite picky with what clothes I put my little ones in, but something like a summer weight sleeping bag would be useful - https://www.adenandanais.co.uk/bedtime-baby-products-and-gifts/sleeping-bags . I loved all the stuff from this brand, the muslins and comfort blankets are still used now and my youngest is 10.

Had loaaaads of baby's in the family so I used to do home made hampers as lot of people tend to go straight for baby clothes so I done a little basket of nappies, wipes, cotten buds, muslin clothes, talc powder, little shampoo and bath wash, little soft sponge, a little comfort thing usually a little bunny holding a little blanket thing, little pair of socks, little pair of mittens, an a little hat, it was just stuff that would come in handy that maybe they didn't have a lot of, I went to Asda an Tesco for most as they would do little sets so it saved on costs

I agree with this. I had so much toiletries for baby and sudocream etc which was the most useful.

Also think about season, if baby due in winter they will need lots and lots of vests.

my friend bought me a UV large muslin which was amazing as I could cover my baby but he wouldn’t overheat. I think she bought from Amazon.

Outfits I wouldn’t recommend, we had so many he hardly used and I could never remember who bought what.

We didn’t use a swaddle so I’m afraid that wouldn’t have been useful for me and having a baby with sensitive skin a lot of the toiletries were unusable too.
People said get millions of muslins but we didn’t have a spitty baby so a lot went unused except the large ones as multi use blankets, Breast feeding cover etc. Clothes went unworn as we were given so many in tiny sizes then they didn’t grow into the bigger ones according to seasons. Baby books didn’t really get filled in as I was always chasing my tail.

Paying for Hello Fresh or something like that to provide a food service would be really helpful for mum. Maybe a subscription to a new mums app.
A really nice insulated cup would be good for mum, especially if she’s breast feeding.
For baby, we got a really gorgeous star wrap blanket and personalised baby towels which were great too.

If I had to do my 3 over again I'd want infacol and alcohol 😁
Seriously though, there wasn't Hello fresh type things about back then. I would have been so grateful for that, amazing idea!

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
I’ve ordered a few different things, based on your advice;

For babies, I’ve gotten baby accessories (hats, vests etc) and for when they are older too! Blankets seem to be a useful/popular choice so gone for those as well!

I’ve gotten some stuff for the mums too, stuff like luxury bubble bath/shower gel, luxury teas and some chocolate treats.

ive also ordered the “this works” sleep spray for mum and baby, which has rave reviews - has anyone used this? I figured it was something that was nice for mum and (hopefully?) baby too.

Lovely presents, I’d be very happy with that 😊

Does anybody know if you can claim somebody’s state pension contributions if they died before pension age? For example: married couple in their 50’s both eligible for state pension. One dies. Can the other one claim any money?
