Hi, he said it didn't give him the cash.
Could you ask the place for CCTV? So you know exactly what happened/feel reassured. My Nan was the same before but turned out it was early dementia signs unfortunately. Your dad may well not have this but if you saw the footage it might explain what went on

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but something happened today that has really worried me.

My dad came home after going out to visit his sister. He had called by a cash machine to lift money, but he didn't get the cash and said that the machine ate his card. So he calls the bank to cancel it, and then discovers his bank card is in his pocket.... he was absolutely insistent that he didn't take the card from the machine. It's all very perplexing but there are no other bank cards it could have been, so he must have taken it back from the machine. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance... he's 71 years old. He's smart and sharp in every other way, but can sometimes be a bit absent-minded. I just feel very worried by it.
We all have moments like these I bet you can think of times you did something without thinking or knowing how something happened. It's more likely to happen with things we do on autopilot. I once walked away after taking my card and forgot to take the money. I was in my 30s I've never done it again.

Can you check his bank to see if money has left his account? Find out if he has actually withdrawn cash? The cashpoint acting up is a possibility, as is him making an error while using it.
You could keep a diary of any behaviour he displays that concerns you.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I spoke to mum and found out more detail and he was saying the machine was making a weird noise (you know when it is counting out the cash, but it sounded like something was wrong) - he would tend to get flustered by things, so it was probably to do with that. He will definitely be more careful in future.

Thank you for this - and oh definitely - me, mum and my other half have all done that same thing as you said too and there's been many other things I'm sure. A few weeks ago I totally forgot about an appointment I had made, just a complete lapse in memory.

Can anybody please tell me wtf has bitten me and how to ease it? It’s absolutely killing (I gave birth 3 months ago and I’d rather go through that again right now 😂). There was no culprit at the scene!

Could it have been a wasp/bee sting? You can get cream for bites to stop the itching or calomine lotion. Piriton can help too

couod the machine have swallowed his card and not given the cash because he actually put a different, wrong card in? I don’t know if it works like that but it would explain it. Did he have any other cards on him that he could have used by mistake?

I often blame my mum, who’s memory isn’t the best, for things only to later realise it was actually my mistake or she was correct and I just assumed.

Whatever it is put a plaster over the bite because other things that bite bloody love an open would to go in again. The amount of times I’ve become an all you can eat buffet for bitey things I cannot tell you.

I truly wouldn't worry overly at the moment It's such an autopilot type of thing that I doubt it's indicative of anything. Is he worried about anything at the moment, enough that it could be distracting his thoughts?

Thank you both! He was talking more about it this evening and feels very silly. He realises he took the card. He was waiting for the drawer bit to open with the money and it didn’t but kept making strange noises, so it seems he took the card automatically while not looking.

Thanks for chatting this through with me everyone - I’m just such a worrier about my parents. Dad’s sister has dementia and the thought of the same thing happening terrifies me. I don’t even like to say that or think it.

My grandmother had dementia so I understand your concern. My parents are in their 70's too and it's something I worry about a lot (and I know they do too).

I came to say this - I once put a LOYALTY card in a bank machine and didn’t realise until it finished whirring 🤦‍♀️
My dad is showing similar signs so I totally understand how worrying it is- according to my mum (ex GP) there’s a decrease in something which leads to an increase in brain fog etc around that age in men. However do keep monitoring it because it’s when they repeat the same thing over and over that you should worry. If it would settle you definitely contact the bank and ask for CCTV

Not so much a problem but like a king for advice S IV recently lost weight and need some new clothes.im taking the opportunity to buy quality items that will last for once!

Jumpers - any recommendations for soft jumpers? Possibly cashmere or merino wool?

Trousers - comfy stylish trousers that are not jeans?

Coat - something warm and waterproof that won't make me look frumpy 😂

PJ's - a top and trouser bottom set that is really soft and comfy

Robe - ideally a towelling one that feels like one you get at the spa?

Trainers - what trainers is everyone wearing these days? Ideally would want something that goes with most jeans/leggings etc

Next have good quality soft pjs and jumpers. Don’t like their jeans though so maybe someone else can suggest elsewhere that have better ones x

I love nike airs. I find they are comfy when I am on my feet all day and normally where them on holidays. Although some of the newer youngs are stupidly expensive

I actually really rate M&S for a lot of the above. Trainers I shop at Hotter, they’re brilliant quality and last forever (5 years is the record)
Coats- Cotton Traders have lovely ones with lots of pull cords so you can shape them

Also I’m 33!
