If you were buying a second hand car, would you be more swayed by lower miles or a newer car? I have a £5k budget, which apparently doesn't get you much these days. My options seem to be either a 10+ year old car with lower average miles (for the age) or a higher mileage car still 8 or so years old.
Depends on the brands and the general states of the car. But I don't think 2+ years will make a lot of difference in terms of rust, general breakdown of materials and needs for total replacement of parts. I would get the car that has less electronics (as those are hard to fix and will accumulate over time), and the one that has a longer time left on its MOT.

I'd go for newer with higher miles. I had a low mileage car once and I had nothing but bother with it.
Go on the government mot check and see how the cars Milage has increased over the years .if it's done a consistent amount of miles since its last mot it's probably OK. People don't do a lot of miles in unreliable cars.

I'd look for one with a part or preferably full service history ideally, then you'll know its been looked after (plus you'll have a paper trail of the work that's been done) even if the miles are high. Also higher mileage is less of a concern on a diesel than petrol.

I bought my current car 3 years ago having done 120,000 miles and it's been great, it's been to Wales, Newcastle, the West Country (we live in SE London) and no issues. It had a full history and although it is a bit of an old heap, it's been decently maintained and looked after which is probably why it's still going.

The problem with buying a car with no history (I went to view one recently - I'm looking to sell my car as it's not ULEZ compliant) is that you have no idea what if any work has been done over it's lifetime. The car I viewed was lowish mileage (65,000 for a 9 year old car) but it had no records or paperwork at all, the guy selling it assured me it was a decent car but as he'd only bought it at auction a couple of weeks earlier I wasn't going to take his word for it, when he couldn't tell me if the timing belt had been done, when the brake pads/ discs were last replaced or even when it last had an oil change!

Please, please tell me someone on this thread can help me.
It's to do with homelessness, and severe difficulties with credit checks meaning we are looking at months upon months of being unable to even rent. Il explain more if anyone can help.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by ‘help’. People can only offer advice or direct you to particular body’s or charities in your area, nobody would be able to ‘help’ in real life I don’t think xxx

Sold my 12 year old car recently, it was still LEZ compliant, had pretty low mileage (67k) and only 2 owners, full service history, new exhaust, lots of repairs and documented. So I would want to know owners, see service history and understand how it had been used if possible... you will get a better deal buying private than a dealership, especially if cash. I traded mine in.

I would contact council , speak to citizens advice. Call up the places you owe money to and see what can be done with your repayments. Speak to agencies about credit checks, get references from your employers and previous landlords to help support an application. Maybe see about private renting via gumtree etc as many landlords rent that way to avoid the agency fee?

I will try elaborate tomorrow as its been an incredibly overwhelming day which iv spent the majority of sobbing.!!
(I'm 31 and aware I need to get a grip of myself 😔)

Anyone had tonsillitis? Any tips to get it to stop hurting as painkillers aren't touching it at all and I've had 3 hours sleep the past two nights in broken chunks, I'm literally dying and also crying which only hurts me more haha.

I've been given antibiotics by the doctor hoping they will help but I've only just taken my first dose.

I had it before when I was about 18 but don't remember it being this bad then...

nothing really tbh just the numbing spray will take the edge off. You should start feeling better soon from the antibiotics. I found the red ibuprofen with the liquid in worked best x

Bless you - it’s horrible isn’t it. I had it last year and I lived off ice pops as it numbed the pain for a while. Hope you feel better soon x

Benadryl throat spray it’s got numbing in helps a lot. I had chronic tonsillitis before having mine removed and this was the most helpful until antibiotics kicked in. Feel better soon x

Agree with the numbing spray, also drinking loads of sage tea as it is antibacterial. Maybe even cool it down, I always found cold drinks super relieving. Get some antibacterial stuff to gargle with, too.

Difflam do a numbing mouthwash too that’s helpful. Ice lollies helped loads but not ice cream as the dairy hurts more

Gargling with salt water can help too as well as lots of rest. It's important if it doesn’t begin to improve after a couple of days to go back, also if it effects breathing/swallowing.

I had it really badly in 2018, gp surgery wouldn’t let me be seen until I couldn’t speak or breathe, luckily I had a gp appointment a couple of days later as unbeknown to me it had spread (black spots on roof of mouth signified that), and, was beginning to effect breathing and speaking. I was on different antibiotics for about six weeks. I was told to gargle with salt water and try the difflam spray and rest lots as I refused to go to hospital.

I’ve currently got it, must be doing the rounds but this bout is awful! Second the difflam spray, I can’t use it currently as I’m pregnant but when I’ve used it before it’s been a life saver in terms of numbing the pain. And lots of ice lollies/yoghurts help I find. Hope you feel better soon 😊

I also could do with a magic wand if anyone has one going spare 😉
I was being deadly serious, unfortunately. At rock bottom in every area of my life and I can't hate myself more for it. Not having a go just wondered if your referencing me, I'm so paranoid, ignore me😂

I am too. Sorry I didn’t mean for it to sound like I was making fun, I wasn’t.
