Ex member here . I would love to know what happened to the ex-affiliates and why they left . I know of a few who were treated like shit .. but there's some more who seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth
Probably traumatised !
I know a few who have stopped because they are traumatised, lots of people have PTSD from their group just like myself. The mere mention of them makes my blood boil or just be disgusted in them (however therapeutic to see this thread of people seeing through them).
I remember an affiliate who really stood upto them getting a load of online problems, people would not listen to her sometimes despite mentioning their bad practices. When herself and other people have lifted the lid, they get replies such as ''get over it'', ''let it go'', which is absolutely disgusting. This stuff will all come to light one day in a #metoo or even Jimmy Saville like moment (not the same obviously but a comparison that there are things being ignored). Some of these people have had their lives made hell but get told '' get over it'' etc, their cult are allowing these people to get away with it. However I know karma will comeback for them one day.

Someone could commit suicide one day because of them, when will people realise they are not just a diet group (they should be) but their owner is a bully who treats people in an awful manner. I myself in 2019 had the worst feeling of my life I could not shake because of his words, I got to a stage on one particular day where I thought of suicide. If I went and said that on their page, I would be met with ''you are an excuse maker'' etc from their cult (that is how I feel).
Nobody should ever ever ever feel like this because of a diet group! Slimming World etc might have its faults (calorie counting all the way), James Smith might swear and annoy some vegans, Body Coach might get on a few peoples tits etc, but nobody is thinking of ending their life because of an online person like Richie.

It’s kicking off a little tonight in the members only club. Someone is asking once you can go to friends and family for food how do you track it. People are saying to take scales with you or ask people to save barcodes. Someone has pointed out that not seeing f&f for 1 year you could surely have 1 day off! This can really lead to disordered eating having that mindset of carrying scales around!

As much as I think Richie is a cockwomble I can’t get over how many of you think it’s perfectly reasonable to sign up to something with certain terms you know from the outset then act outraged that he tries to get the money back you owe him especially when you’ve done it by simply cancelling your direct debit and ignoring him. Baffled. Imagine if you did that to your mortgage company.
How can you compare a slimming club to a mortgage? The terms and conditions of a mortgage have extensive conditions, you are given all the information upfront, you know exactly how much interest you are going to pay over a set period of time against the sum you have borrowed. MY problem with them is that it was THEIR fault the DD wasn't collected, it was still active on my account and they then pulled a magic figure out of Richie's arsehole (seeing as he seems so fond of speaking about it) that they just expected me to pay. They couldn't explain to me how they came to work out this sum. It was something utterly ridiculous like £53.99 against £6.99? Not even the banks are allowed to charge those absurd percentages anymore. I may as well have been talking to my cat the sense I got out of the heavies they have employed to bully people. Would you like to accidently miss a mobile phone payment and pay about 150 -200% in charges instead of like £7.50? Probably not!

Distance selling is completely different to say a gym membership, which is the kind of contract he is trying to hold people too. He is not upfront either about the contract or the charges. The last time I looked at his "terms" he had altered them in March... hmm maybe because previously they were illegal. But thanks for your constructive comment 🙄

I cant believe people are so brainwashed to even consider taking scales to a friends house to weigh food.

Definitely leading to some disordered eating

Agree completely. There are very few people who take it off and keep it off using the slimming club method. Just because RH and co aren’t doing it Little Britain style doesn’t mean they’re any different.
Richie is probably the only person more insulting to his slimming clients than Marjorie!

The thing that cracks me up about RH and James Smith is they all think they are so different to SW/WW when they are in fact a slimming club. You weigh daily, get told an allowance and then you eat to that allowance. I know SW/WW members eat some random food concoctions but so do some cal counters. They think because they are counting cals rather than points or syns that they are superior when if you are eating to lose weight, you are dieting. End of. A lot of the faces of these cal counting clubs lost their weight with WW/SW and then switched to cal/macro counting to lose the last 7lb or maintain. I’ve been a member of every club going and in the FB members groups it’s the same kind of chat. Plus as soon as the cal counters stop counting the weight goes back on, just as it does with SW/WW. The best diet anyone can do is the one that you can make into a lifestyle change to maintain the weight lost.

I really don’t think he understands the damage even something like this could do! Let me tell you I run and my arse and legs are toned but the rest of me suffers. But I run A for cardio B and B is a Biggy (see what I did there) for my mental health! To clear my head and get out. I get more out of a 30 minute run that I do a 30 minute walk.

Discouraging people this way may lead them down a very dark path. Ffs why can he not just be normal and give pro and cons! Running/jogging/power walking all hold a great amount of value in health and well-being.

No it won’t give you the same definition but my mind is clear and I can climb mountains/hills without needing my inhaler anymore.

Why does he have to be a ‘NEGATIVE SALLY’ all the time rather than a Postive influence. Positivity goes a long way with encouragement and motivation.

I was a member about 3 years ago. It’s an absolutely vile toxic group with no support at all.

I have struggled with BED my whole life because of a parent who restricted my food, used to use our dog to chase me around a field to exercise and berated me constantly for being overweight.

I’ve never successfully lost weight as emotional overeating always wins. I once asked for help in the group and Richie made me the subject of one of his rants. Using my full name. Calling me lazy and pathetic. Told me I was going to die. Told me I will never lose weight because I am weak and I actually don’t deserve to be thin or deserve his help.

At the time I was working 40 hours a week in my main job, then building a business which was another 30 hours a week - I tried to explain to him I didn’t have time to get 15,000 steps in but it was just pathetic excuses apparently. He set me back years. I’ve still not made any progress on my weight loss as in the back of my mind I hear his voice and my dads about how I’ll always be fat and lazy.

Im glad people have mentioned Preece - I always liked him and was aware of the fallout and the poor woman who was getting legal letters etc - I hope she stood her ground and stood up to them. Maybe I will have a look at Preece today and see if it’s time to make some changes.
He's nothing but a bully bastard and I hope someone punches him square on the nose one of these days!!

I'm so sorry you had to endure all of that in your childhood and then have that clown adding to your stress. He's nothing but a nasty little nobody and I'm convinced he will be his own downfall one of these days. He must be the most unhappy person on the planet. He can sit there counting his pounds in the bank, every gravy train runs out eventually.

Don't even worry about losing weight right now. We are all told we shouldn't be fat, we should be this, be that... but being fat or rather HAVING fat is not a crime!! We are all built differently. We all have our vices, some people drink, some smoke, some eat. It doesn't make you any less of a person!! You will do it when you feel ready. Please believe in yourself because one day it will just click in and you will do it for you, in a way that suits you 💗

My fear, if she did have a baby, would be that he’d use it as another sales technique. Would have her on the treadmill within hours of giving birth. “Look how she’s smashing her goals, no excuses! She’s lost all the baby weight IN A DAY, what’s your excuse?!” Run Rachael!!

I signed up to TRH last September. I'd heard nothing but good things on social media sites and the reviews on trust pilot seemed overwhelmingly positive (now I know why) and it was such a waste of £50. I only lasted a few weeks. Some annoying things that happened...

It was nice to get a much higher calorie limit - I'm 5'0 and, despite having around 8 stone to lose, most TDEE calculators will default me to 1200 because of my height - but the protein limit was insane at 134g per day. Anyone asking about meeting protein on the facebook group was slammed as an idiot who didn't read the ultra basic image of high protein foods. In an ideal week I'll have 4/5 fully plant based days and, despite RH repeatedly saying that it was easy to meet any protein requirement on a vegan diet without protein powder I worked out it would take 7.7 big cans of chickpeas to get that amount of protein, which would also be the entire calorie amount allowed. Even on days where I had some fish or meat I struggled to get to 134g because I didn't want it for every meal.

Getting in 15,000 steps was exhausting. I'm WFH and it would take me around one hour to do 5,000 steps so I'd start work at 7, finish at 4 then go straight out (rain or shine) and walk as fast as possible non-stop until 7. I walk very slowly (a combination of tiny legs, asthma, and being large) compared to most people but I felt like a failure if I didn't get my steps in. He would say in the lives that when he was calling people lazy for not getting their steps he wasn't referring to people with health conditions but it sounded insincere whenever he said it. I think he was just pissed off that people had kept calling him out for it.

Someone mentioned on the group that they had a can of diet coke (2 calories) and the TRH app had logged it as 50 calories. They were told that there are some unhealthy foods/drinks that the app classes as more calories in order to stop you having them often. At this point I couldn't trust their app anymore.

The final nail in the coffin though was when RH started banging on about calories in medicines. He posted a huge rant about how people are so stupid because they don't know about calories in prescription medication and don't bother to count it because they're lazy and obviously don't give a damn about losing weight. For things like cough sweets (100 calories for 3) I could possibly understand but I was sitting there trying to work out how many calories were in my asthma tablets and panicking about taking them incase they were too high.

Luckily I gave my head a wobble, realised I could potentially become dangerously obsessed if I stayed there and deleted the app. I felt for ages like I was the only one who had an issue with them because, again, I hear nothing but good things. Pleased I've found this thread and it isn't just me who was bothered by their approach.
My other half, who has actual degrees and Masters in these areas (unlike anyone managing or “coaching” in Team RH) says 15,000 steps a day is completely ridiculous for most people, and that even 10,000 steps can be unrealistic for people depending on their job etc. He says it’s setting people up for failure or burnout. He also says the protein targets of 120g plus are crazy and again very difficult for a typical person to hit. So it’s absolutely not just you, I’ve said it before - they’re clueless about real life and real issues. Most of us are now trying to juggle working a real job (from home or on the frontline) whilst home schooling or looking after little people/ relatives and/or missing our friends and family. Richie and Rachael don’t have any of that stuff to worry about. I’m sure we could all smash workouts, hit 15,000 steps and hit all our macros 100% if we literally had nothing else in our lives besides that!

My friend is a therapist for the nhs that specialises in eating disorder treatment. They blocked her from commenting on their posts because she had been trying to help people that were clearly under eating under their restrictive, disordered plan. They’re evil.

How does he have the nerve to charge so much a month for an app that relies so heavily on MFP? Which is crap and full of wrong entries. You have to input the info like steps, fluids etc I really don't see what TRH provide you with after the initial "chat"... The workouts when I was a member are exactly the same, never change.

Nutracheck app I manged to get while on offer for £23 for the whole year 😳 it's fantastic for tracking food and everything else.

James Smith also has a free calculator that gives you your cals and protein you need. Just Google it.

The plan itself is fine in theory and worked for me while I had a lot to lose. The way it's run and how money grabbing they became completely turned me off. All the bollocks they try and feed you about caring when without a doubt all they care about is your money. Getting a shady debt collectors company involved was a massive red flag. They only offer the odd free place to try and get others thinking how nice they are and when they need a bit of a promotion boost.

I was originally with TRH and did well (lost 2 and a half stone). Loved it at the beginning but then it started to get bigger . The calorie clubs were fab.. until we realised they were being monitored and a couple of girls I got chatting to were deleted for having an opinion. Then it all kicked off with affiliates leaving etc. I joined Preece Nutrition and its a totally different atmosphere. Mr Howey has obvious mental health issues and I'm concerned for all those 'coaches ' who worship the ground he walks on. Peter Preece, on the other hand , is so genuine , gentle and genuinely concerned for each and everyone of his members health and well being. Team RH is a total farce in my opinion .

I think most people on Slimming World add up their calories at some point (to give themselves an idea of where they’re coming out at), it’s not really ‘free’ food if it’s being followed as they prescribe. I’m no Slimming World fan but it’s no worse than any other diet, and better than one where they shame you. You can also ask questions without being sworn at, and if you don’t like it, you can leave without being hounded by a debt recovery agency. So. There’s that.

But neither will 15k of steps around your lounge, but at least the jogging will add in some cardio?

I will say this much: long post coming.

So... I wanted to get fit, over lockdown, I’d put on a few pounds and thought I wanted a bit of help with it.

Team RH said they could help teach nutrition but you still eat real food. Fantastic! So I learned I definitely needed more protein to support the exercise I do, that’s good, more fibre, more water, more movement. Healthy. But then they teach you to ignore your body’s signals.

They don’t monitor if you’re taking it too far. Before Xmas I felt I got too thin, so I started eating more (off of their plan) I felt better for it. I messaged them and said so and they said I had to go back to tracking every calorie even if I wasn’t happy with it as that’s the only way it works, fair enough...

I said I’ve reached my goal, what now? They added me into a group with a load of women with their bones sticking out who are then instructed to get their partners to use callipers on them and pinch their body fat each week to see if they are gaining body fat. If they do, 100 cals down, if they don’t, 100 cals up. The only way to avoid the body fat going up, is to do weights and build muscle and if that doesn’t work, you’re not trying hard enough...

As a feminist it didn’t sit right with me at all!

The women are all very lost and stressed and constantly asking if they look fat / need to diet more. There is minimal official help as the owner (Richie) admits this is 5% of his client base so they invest in the people losing fat as a priority.

The women are told to bulk, there is one woman held as the poster child for bulking who is eating something like 3400 calories a day (up and down 100 a week 😱) who is clearly just putting loads of weight on again who will then be expected to “cut” and reveal the muscle. But there is no instruction offered for anyone that doesn’t want to be a body builder. When I said I had had numerous panic attacks over using these callipers, especially as I have no training and it was telling me I was obese on the website you enter the data into, they (the coaches) just told me I need to practice more. How do you practice something you have no training in?! How can you say it’s safe for people who have prior disordered eating habits (I told them this from the start) to pinch bits of fat endlessly? I am really shocked and disgusted. I have reached out to others in the industry who have said that callipers work, if you want to be a body builder, but intuitive eating and learning about food is better mentally and unfortunately, in my option, team rh do not teach this outside of starve / bulk.
A feminist is Richie's (finger my arsehole) worst nightmare 😉 well done you for listening to your head and heart and having the strength to realise that this is wrong!! He needs stopping. Poking at people with a calliper like some prized cow going going market is just absurd!!! We are all NORMAL people who joined his "team" who do not need nazi type behaviours trying to turn you into a 2% fat chicken breast. He's completely lost sight of what people want. He's put his own wants, goals (money) aspirations before his clients MH and personal goals and he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the public. Most members don't WANT to look like a fitness model!

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I stand by what I've said before, where are all his success stories? Because if his methods were so much better than anything else out there, there would be thousands of success stories. I can't remember many!
