this doc's a right mess. you could get a full hour out of each issue raised here

obviously, those people didn't deserve to have their car torched, but what is the connection with trolls? where is the proof that it was perpetrated by tiktok commenters?

db doesn't like to be reminded he's racist, does he?

oh, here we gooo! here's sali!
Muddled isn't it? And far too much about Baddiel.
Nothing new from Sali.

Have been too busy for Tattle the last few weeks but this documentary is on in the background and was really puzzled/frustrated to hear David Baddiel call us a bunch of trolls/abusers. David, if you’re reading, please go through my post history and find 1 (one) thing I’ve ever said that is abusive.

No idea about Sali Highes so can’t comment on that. Agreed with the poster above that there’s a huge difference between influencers being money grubbers and JK Rowling being threatened with rape.

Influencers could do with taking a lead out of Britney’s book: ‘They say I’m crazy, I really don’t care. That’s my prerogative!’

It is frustrating/predictable that vicious online bullying eg death threats, violence is mentioned in the same breath as Tattle. Where no such posts are ever allowed.
Sigh.

"we're all one tweet away from cancellation"

don't 👏 tweet 👏 stupid 👏 things 👏 then 👏

honestly, this whole thing's been ridiculous

the blue tick brigade really don't like having the plebs around

please don't lump tattle in with the likes of qanon and russian bot farms, thanks. pointing out that someone has lied about having a toaster or is dishing out undeclared affiliate links all over the place or doesn't live in a bungalow or never completes a task not quite the same as trying to destabilise democracy

I'm actually INCANDESCENT WITH RAGE that he saw fit to end his doc with a hospital photo of his sick dad. For what??

I never liked his documentary about his dad. This was a few years ago before I even disliked DB so much. His father has quite advanced dementia and I thought it distasteful he showed so much private stuff when his dad obviously was not in a position to give informed consent.
DB and his brother made jokes about their father's terrible hair and things like that.
Obviously this is just banter between a loving family, but it felt very intrusive and uncomfortable.

That was a really strange watch. The stuff that was interesting , like how reading negative comments physical effects on the brain, seemed to only be touched on in favour of some navel gazing into his own social media addiction. And as has already been said, grouping tattle in with violent behaviours was abhorrent. I was also really confused as to what his take on freedom of speech and cancel culture - it seemed to be social media is good when it’s helping sell tickets , bringing in money, or giving positive feedback, and those people who are doing well ( I’m guessing by that he meant blue tickers) shouldn’t be at risk of losing their income/reputation all over something that they’ve put on social media which has caused offence to others . But people who call people out , hold people accountable for what they say and give negative feedback are all horrible little jealous trolls who deserve to have their voices ( via places like here) taken away 🤷‍♀️

Isn’t the whole anti cancel culture movement pretty mainstream now in that people think people should be given the chance to learn and grow? If we’re all serious about anti racism/anti everything prejudice we all need to continuously learn from others and tackle any racist or otherwise crappy thoughts we may catch ourselves thinking and hold ourselves accountable, unlearn the bad tit we’ve been socialised with, and do better next time (btw this is also literally a line in the board book anti racist baby!! So not a difficult concept to grasp!!!). People make mistakes and there have been some really sincere decent celeb apologies about how they plan to move on from it. People that are willfully ignorant are the only ones getting slated online, being cancelled appears to be a massively profitable endeavour anyway?

The thing is they want it all - they want to say whatever without impunity, they want to be the victims when it’s called out, and they also ideally want us subscribing to their Patreons or buying with their #afflinks too.

The negative effects on brain chemistry of bad feedback is interesting, I wonder whether it’s perceived even more acutely when in comparison the to the dopamine hit of likes and flattering comments.

I would really like to watch an objective documentary series about all of this. Genuinely taking all sides of the story from influencers to followers to people commenting on sites like these and BTL online articles. How it impacts teens and new mums etc etc. The ASA angle, the change of career for journalists. The size of platforms, the right to reply. Not to mention the impact on children being featured without consent. It’s really huge and complex and I’m surprised by these half assed efforts from the BBC - they’re so - self serving - for the presenters chosen. Editing to add - we pay a license fee for this! 🤦‍♀️

I never heard of David Baddiel before this but I think that documentary showed him in an absolutely dreadful light. Just came across like he was mad that he filmed himself doing blackface in the 90s, but he didn’t come across as sorry for it, he just seemed bitter that it has damaged his career. The only funny part was when he was crying about cancel culture, he basically said influencers and famous people should be able to say what they want online, put their opinions out and not get cancelled, however if members of the general public put their opinions out online then we’re jealous, bitter raging trolls?
And that sally hughes jesus christ, never heard of her either but she just seemed narcissistic and totally unhinged.

He's definitely a prime example of that old mindset from the big broadcast dinosaurs, where they think they are untouchable, irreplaceable and everyone should bow to them. Error no you're OK mate, we all think you're a dick who's even less funny and relevant than you were first time round 🖕

So glad somebody with a blue tick is kicking back against this utter bollocks.

Also I’m not suggesting I’ve never been a prick but actually no, we are not all one tweet away from being cancelled. You could go through most people’s socials back to the early 00s or whenever MySpace was and no, you probably won’t find something so bad it would end a career.

This is the article where Baddiel said those things - https://archive.md/H79L9

Always makes me wonder if they were happy to talk about things like that in the 90s to journalists and think it was acceptable, what else did they get up to?

He gets rolled out every 2 years or so because of a song he was involved with.
If England did nt qualify for major football tournaments we would never hear about this guy again. Must of had too much free time last summer when the euros were postponed.
Box him up and put him back on the archives shelf for another 12 months.
