She often sounds so snobby about books. I just tried to watch her February book video and she was talking about The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and was saying things like it's not her usual genre to read, she feels bad about rating it badly as romance novels often get a lot of flack about not being literary but she thinks is unfair as "it's not what it's trying to be". Her not liking that particular book is obviously fine but surely a comment like that just plays into the stereotype that any romance novel can't also be a good piece of literature?

I also have a feeling her video reviews are very influenced by reviews of other people. I have often heard her say things that I recognise from Goodreads reviews- could be a coincidence, though.

She also said she listened to the book but then had a physical copy does she buy them just to show in the video or something? She might have mentioned and I missed it but seems weird.

^ Just adding to the recommendations, this time book-related. Since Jess's book videos have been subpar for the past couple of years, here are a few channels I adore as an English literature graduate if anyone is interested.

1. * e m m i e* - a wholesome and charismatic English/classics student whom, unlike Jess, I find incredibly motivating since she suffered a brain concussion and managed to find the strength to finish her studies in the process.
2. Jen Campbell - another wonderful YouTuber who gives outstanding contemporary literature recommendations.
3. Books and Things - focused on Victorian literature, amazingly detailed reviews.
4. CarolynMarieReads - a talented artist with an exceptional gift for literary analysis, especially for classics.
5. Better Than Food - this man's a legend.
6. R.C. Waldun - a well-rounded channel with many videos on philosophy and general life/writing tips.

If you're tired of watching her regurgitate GoodReads reviews, I would highly recommend these channels 🤗

I really miss old school Jess. I genuinely loved her fashion sense and vlogs when she was at Edinburgh, and I like to go back and watch them now and again. I hope she does decide to go ahead with the PhD plans she's spoken about before, but IMO she doesn't seem dedicated enough to use that time for anything other than 3 more years of studying and reading. She's really lost her drive since moving back home to do her MA and then basically getting to read for a living, whilst uploading the occasional instagram pic/story and sponsored vid. It's such a shame as she could use her passion for literature and become a great lecturer/researcher/tutor. I think having a "proper" job would do her the world of good, but I guess she's never needed to have one due to her family's wealth and YT income. Come on Jess, you can do ANYTHING you want to. If you really want to continue being a "full-time influencer" until it dies a death, at least give it your all. Bring back your fashion content and lookbooks. Home renovation vids. Interior design. Show us round London when circumstances change. Let's see some drive back that the old Jess had and give your YT some love.

I used to enjoy a few of her vids, mainly watched for vlogmas - loved it when she was in Edinburgh for uni at that time of year! I don't watch her anymore, found her (even more than before) very difficult to relate to and got bored of seeing her constant high-end purchases.

I’ve followed Jessie for years but I had no idea her dad lived in Memphis with his second family? She has American sisters? Is Indie her full or half sister? So many questions...

Fuck she was a totally irresponsible bint going on that trip. Her video trying to justify it was beyond cringe.
Her dad only moved to Memphis two or three years ago. Her other sisters are English as well (their mum is Russian though I believe)

I’m hoping Zack has hidden depths because he is so low-energy and monosyllabic.
Hahah 😂 he’s definitely a talented photographer and videographer... her old lookbooks were so well done thanks to him. I’m also baffled that he quit his chef job to work for her though. What does he do all day?! Editing her 1 video a month and few pics can’t take that long.

From what I saw they were always on her "what i got for my bday/xmas" videos. People constantly telling her she's selfish, tone-deaf, reminding her that there's people out there that are less fortunate etc... I really hate that whole narrative, Jessie's parents buying her expensive presents isn't the reason poverty exists.
I remember she posted a handbag collection video years ago which I liked as a lot of her bags back then were not the sort of thing every influencer had at that time. Although I could never afford the designer things she had I also enjoyed watching her xmas/birthday videos as her Mum always bought her some amazing things, it was a shame she stopped doing them especially with Youtube today where it seems every influencer can either afford or is gifted designer items.

Okay been lurking a while but had to set up an account when I saw this thread! I was friends with someone who went to uni with Jess (met her quite a few times). Nice girl as far as I could tell but the image she used to portray of being really hardworking at uni was a lie. She’d get up early, take all her stuff to the library to keep a space then saunter off and spend 90% of the day out having lunch/coffee etc. Her and zac were also incredibly lazy/unclean and would leave old takeaway boxes piled up in her flat for weeks etc.
Bit of outdated gossip as it is from when she stayed in Edinburgh but yeah I had to share.
This doesn’t surprise me

I don’t know we’ll off they really are but I can imagine that the mortgage and renovations are costing a fortune every month, and now a child. She bought a house and it comes with financial responsibilities. They’ve only just bought it, I can’t imagine the parents are just happy to help out? How long is that going to go on for if zac isn’t even working?
They are crazy well off. They have multiple million pound homes and she lives in one of the most affluent areas in London with her mum. I think she doesnt need the steady income anymore - more than likely when she needed a mortgage, she may have needed a certain income hence the constant ads and uploads. Now she has the home, she knows she can afford the mortgage and work on her basic income of one video a week OR she has come in to an inheritance from a grandparent or her own parents that she supports her lifestyle with. Theres absolutely no way Youtube and being an Influencer is paying her that much considering she does the bare minimum and isnt really big at all anymore.

Yeah I don't think the Goodreads thing was ever really confirmation. It could well be that they're planning on trying to start a family soon and she downloaded it in preparation. If you have Goodreads linked to your Kindle app, it automatically lists things as read if you open them at all so it might have just been an accident.

in the first "house tour" she did there was a shot of the houses opposite which I recognised (I work in W London quite alot).
Omg! You're right! I rewatched the tour and recognised the street. It was very easy to find the house from then on. Thanks!

People are right! The house looked still liveable when it was for sale. The video made it look like a ruin or a crack den. Not ok!

Used to love her content, I like that she talks about books and I find her voice really relaxing. Although in her Uni days in Edingburgh that house used to look soo cold, I felt freezing just watching her 😂

I actually still really like Jess and pretty much watch every video - will just skip over any ads if they’re not my thing. But I almost hope for her sake she is pregnant because being that tired all the time isn’t normal and kinda annoying to hear as a viewer that’s just watched you have a casual day. Unless she’s doing loads for her mum and family and not mentioning it.

But like I said, even if she is now at the farm, we have no idea if she went before gov announced existence of tier 4 on 19th December. Because she'd been completely quiet on Instagram between 15th and yesterday.

But wouldn’t she just come out and say she isn’t pregnant?
Or would she keep up the speculations because her views and insta engagement did increased ?
