I'm so tired but I finished it!! The Tattlers on this thread were so astute guessing Tom would be CEO, but I was still like oh shitttt when Mattson told Tom over dinner it would be him.

Wasn't it strange the personality change that Tom had when everyone was congratulating him? Suddenly I was watching him like "...huh. he does actually fit the bill pretty well..." there was no more pandering ass-kissing, no more stupid jokes or trying to fit in. Suddenly he had his business face on which we saw glimpses of during the election episode, but suddenly he really seemed serious. Kinda loved it.

At first I was fuming at Shiv because I've always thought Ken should get it, but after reading the thread I can see why she would have changed her mind. Ken was a donkey on the edge at the end and it was very uncomfortable to watch - gaslighting everyone saying he didn't kill that waiter?! what the actual fuck. and don't get me started on the stitch-splitting hug. At first I was like awwww then Roman started making weird noises and I was like wait.. Kendall isn't doing that on purpose right?? 😬

All in all, a fitting ending for a brilliant show. Everything left ambiguous. Glad Roman is free of it all 🙏🏻

wow, what an ending. what a show.

that was truly a bitter-sweet finale, very fitting. if you have been carefully watching the past 4 seasons it is crystal clear that none of the kids should become CEO. they are all fuck-ups, every one in their own tragic way.
Kendall is definitely the most tragic. I wrote here once that all his highs were followed by incredible lows. it was sooo obvious that he wouldn't win. I'm only surprised that Stewy had not betrayed Kendall one last time, voting for the deal. Kendall would NOT be a good CEO, he is impulsive, he gets in his own way, he is not qualified, and he would run the company into the ground. if the media discovered that Living+ numbers were taken out of his @ss that would be the end of his reign. a part of me wishes that there would be season 5 with this exact storyline.
I actually think Shiv's decision is for the best for all the siblings. it will do them best to free themselves from their father's legacy, they would never do that if Waystar Royco stayed within the family.

oh my. where to start.

i finally started watching succession 12 days ago and i just watched the finale. what this show did to me... i can't explain it 😂 😭 when i realized that's the last time i'm watching the intro (not counting re-watching ofc), i teared up a bit. definitely one of the best tv shows i've ever seen, and an added bonus is that they actually filmed some of season 2 where i live and i had completely forgotten about that 😅

i can't say i expected tom to come out on top, but i was hoping - absolutely adored his character and every scene he was in! when he walked in as ceo and everyone was cheering him on, you could actually see a change in his walk, his confidence, everything, i felt so happy for him even though he was going to be a punching bag basically, but he got the status and money he wanted. he loves his suits, his watches... 🕘

at the beginning i hated kendall, and when a friend of mine who watched the show told me he's her favourite i didn't believe her! but i started feeling so sorry for him throughout the show and he did have some redeeming moments. and the actor... just incredible. he played kendall's sadness so well that i realized in that scene when he's laughing in the sea with shiv & roy that that was the first time i thought he looked genuinely happy!

i did know roman was going to be my favourite from the very beginning - so i was delighted to see him smiling down at that martini 🍸 kieran played roman's breakdowns so incredibly well - i really do hope he gets awards for this role, but then again they all deserve them. when roman broke down at the funeral, it was the first time i actually cried at succession 😭 there were moments where i teared up, but that really broke my heart. probably many of you are binging his interviews anyway, but may i suggest you to watch this really cool interview of him done by hot ones:

and mattson was incredible too! alexander skarsgard is so good at playing creepy men that it scares me a bit 😅 if you enjoyed his role, i can recommend watching the 1st season of big little lies - he's so good in it. scary, but good!! and can't forget brian/logan, every FUCK OFF was perfect 👏

for now i'll end my thoughts with my favourite moment in the show aside from the stickering:

Random observations now the dust has settled.

I'm a bit sad that Geri didn't get a line in the final show. She deserved that at least.

Loved Kerry and Co being referred to as "secondary mourners" or however Connor put it.

Willa's face when confronted with the fact that Connor might not be going to Slovenia after all 🤣

So was Kenny firing blanks then? You can bet your bottom dollar that Logan would have been keen for him to produce an heir. I think he references that in the first series. Rava can obviously carry a child so...

It does explain Logan's ambivalence to Kendall's kids. I doubt he would've casually suggested poisoning his own blood grandchild.

I thought Alexander Skarsgaard played the Mattson character so well. I can't resist a weird yet creepy yet strangely sexy and probably high‐functioning autistic spectrum, extremely striking Viking.

Makes me sad I won't hear the theme tune on a regular basis again. I feel like walking round my shitty town with it playing on a pair of massive headphones, feeling like a boss.

Phenomenal ending 👏 Loved the scene with the siblings watching the video of their dad. Got me right in the feels. 😢 I couldn't stand Connor in season one but I think he ended up being my favourite Roy!

I have been reflecting on The Shiv Decision and I think it might have been the only time she was “right” to go with her gut feeling.

It’s a shitty thing to pull on Kendall at the eleventh hour but they’re shitty people after all. I think Shiv spent a long time trying to be taken seriously in the Waystar world and only ever ended up disappointed. Her father, brother, ally (Matsson) and husband all betrayed her. Maybe she could see this nauseating cycle starting up again of Ken being totally unbearable and reckless and realised at last there was nothing for her to gain from backing him. It’s selfish and jealous for sure, but also cycle breaking for the siblings.

Plus she already made it clear that she wants Tom back and they are pretty much on their last legs anyway. The only way she’d be able to give their relationship a chance is by making sure he could realise his ambitions for change.

My favourite part was the division of house contents via stickers, ‘what happened to the medals? Oh they went in the first round’ 😂

And of course the iconic stickering of Greg!

But the whole series has to be summed up by Kendal, c*nt is as c*nt does

Willa was also not particularly nice, former sex worker out to milk Connor for all her worth, their crimes were overlooked by people on here.
Connor was more than happy to hire her as an escort in the first place, so it’s not like he was tricked into financial abuse by an evil mercenary hooker.

Their arrangement seems to work relatively well, and they arguably have the most amiable and honest partnership on the show. In a story-world where everyone is double-crossing everyone else, I find Willa and Connor to be a refreshingly straightforward couple.

exactly this 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

they all didn’t “win” but kendall is absolutely the one who truly lost. if that makes sense!
I felt hope for Roman in that last scene with his cocktail when he smiled . Now he’s sold the company he can finally try to move on from all the toxicity he was dealing with. He needs so much therapy 🩷

Just finished rewatching and Ken really just went full Logan nut-nut as soon as he got into the office. That 'hug' with Roman on second look was specifically to burst his stitches. I think Rome's hesitation at giving his vote was the thing that gave Shiv pause. They both looked very uncomfortable when Ken sat in Logan's chair and the gaslighting about the waiter's death was the cherry on the cake. Ken tried to verbally bully them both but lacked the force and fear Logan would have instilled and had to resort to a tantrum and then physical assault.

If that were my brother, there's no way I'd be voting for him at that stage and even Rome had fully changed his mind by then, so I don't get the disdain for Shiv changing her mind.

Great episode. Also face eggs.
That bit was so grim.

Such a clever show that can make you empathise with someone one minute and have your stomach turned by them the next.

Roman clearly wasn’t wanting to vote no at the board meeting either. He hesitated. Guess they both had a change of heart.

I suspect it was sibling rivalry that ultimately made Shiv change her vote. She couldn’t stomach Kendall being the boss. Hence why when challenged over it in the side room she started throwing out random reasons like ‘you killed someone’ (which obviously is a fair point, but was spat out in anger and had never come up before).

They are all best off out of it. It was draining the life out of all of them and none of them were suited to the task.

Lost all respect for Shiv when she said she’d take no part in parenting and would leave it all to the nanny.

To be fair, that’s the exact model of mothering she was raised with (as Caroline said, as long as you make sure you never see them it’s fine), so she knows little else.

Plus as a woman she was already pushed to the professional periphery even before she was known to be pregnant. As she rightly said in her eulogy, this is not a realm where women are treated well. Mattson has already made clear that the pregnancy works against her as a potential CEO.

Inadequately parented herself, and fighting tooth and claw to stay relevant in an industry that would rather kick her to the kerb. I can’t disrespect her for considering less than ideal decisions, given her limited options.
